We actually don't know what's the main conflict actually, just basic set up of kingdoms built after receiving gifts from a goddess, an academy maintained by the church preparing nobles from all three kingdoms and that at some point the church becomes the enemy (which they probably messed up by showing since it was a in a gameplay segment and they've avoided actually talking about the conflict).

The original reveal trailer also made it sound like they'll split at some point and leave, which fits with the church becoming an enemy, I guess.

And I'm not saying its a requirement for the design, obviously nothing about those designs actually has to "make sense", but bare feet are arguably a design choice that are often used to make character seem more feral and hint at them being shapeshifters, or at the very least disconnected from society in some way. One could also say that the rest of the outfit could theoretically "stretch over" the transformed dragon if you want to pretend like thats plausible, while shoes would probably burst off. Probably a realistic concern considering Corrins fighting style consists of spontaneously switching between both forms
Also the fact that the outfit is split between black and white is so on the nose I doubt I even need to explain it.

My issue is rather how much she sticks out for someone who's supposed to blend into both cultures. Corrin looks otherworldy which isn't inaccurate, but we're not supposed to know that yet.
If she started wearing that outfit as her "battle garb" or during the revelations-route as a symbol of her not really belonging to either culture, even being of an otherworldy origin, it would make perfect sense.
But Corring getting out of bed and walking around in the Nohr castle in that retarded get-up and sticking out like a sore thumb is what made that risky design choice even more ridiculous-looking, which is why I think its the games fault for having shitty writing and not the design itself being "bad", obvious over-the-top anime design philosophy aside
