Why are old games so hard...

why are old games so hard? I got to playing pic related recently and the CPU owns my ass every time unless I set to normal difficulty and lower

hard is the difficulty you are supposed to use when you get good at the game

Games back then didn't have good graphics so they couldn't be cinematic, meaning only nerds played them. No one thought about dumbing them down for mass audience because only your core target audience were buying them.

Play Necropolis.

Heroes 3 is beautiful though.

>walk into fog of war thinking you are safe
>AI player engages you out of nowhere and assrapes you with his giant army

save often

They're still targeted towards autismal nolifes. I had a classmate that was balls deep into h3, the fucker had all the stats memorized on creatures and artefacts. Talking to that guy about h3 made me embarrassed about how much of a casual I was at the game and also filled me with awe.

You think HoMM3 is hard...?
That's basically cheating, but good advice nonetheless.

You're talking out your ass.

Old games are not hard, it's just that new games are easy. They have to make sure that lil Timmy the Piss4 owner can play Skyrim as well and won't die in dungeons, so level-scaling and potion drinking while in inventory and trash mobs which can't hurt a fly were implemented.

do you know the basics? like which skills are must have and which are useless, what spells are overpowered, the building order?

I'm pretty sure the first five Wizardry games were made by closet sadists

Heroes 3 is rated E for everyone? It has guillotine decapitation cutscenes and creatures from hell in it

People complained the first three were too easy so they decided to make 4 a complete ball-buster.

ive watched abit on youtube so I kinda got the gist (1 stacks to block enemy, use spells like slow, bless etc). Also have read the wiki to learn more about basics like terrain, movement, combat order etc

but still i like figuring stuff out and dont want to just memorise optimal stuff / just use what is imba

Guilliotine always made me spooked as a kid.

Yeah people weren't so fucking stupid and sensible

Might and Magic 8 has a death cutscene when a guy with an axe finishes off your party.

I remember being disturbed by it when I saw a friend play at age 8

Just get earth magic on expert.
