Everything is focused on the chess engines and A.I. and has only rudimentary netplay functions, is web browser placed, or has a hokey medieval/renaissance presentation. What should be there is a full matchmaking and ranking service, 2d vector graphics (no one serious about chess plays computer chess with 3d pieces), and a full suite of quality of life features like auto notation, import, export, streaming, voice chat, recording, etc.
Kind of strange. Untapped potential? The biggest problem I can foresee would be rampant cheating.
web browser is fine. helps get more people playing. current graphics are also fine, and anything else is purely a stylistic choice. many already have 2d vector graphics.

I'm not talking about making any changes to the rules of the game of Chess. I'm talking about a Chess program that takes advance of high resolution displays and gaming-tier GPU power. Something you can play Bullet or Blitz chess on with very low lag, and very smooth animation (if you desire it). Imagine watching a game of blitz being played at 60 fps with fluid pieces zipping around the board, possibly with some good sound effects. It would be very addictive and fun. Presentation can make a big difference.

Lichess and chess.com are great for beginners and casuals, but I feel there is a market for something more serious, more high-end. Something that has that more macho, chess club feel of slamming the pieces around.
Irl good chess players are more like fighting game players than the snob image casuals associate with the game.
Gavin Long
Are you sure there's a market? I can see the niche appeal of what you're describing, but not a lot of sales.
Gavin Richardson
yeah, because chess is such a fast paced game
Cameron King
Looks terrible, the opposite of what I'm talking about.
The game should have a big, very clear to see board with vectorized pieces. Something that looks more like a puzzle video game than a 3d battle.
Blitz and Bullet are very fast paced games, and are the dominant forms of online chess.
Kevin Adams
Chess battle royale when?
Liam Long
tabletop simulator
Robert Butler
That's getting there, but it's still not slick enough, and it's trying too hard to be different with its gimmicky alternate rules (I assume it will let you play regular chess).
Am I not being clear enough? This is the opposite of what I'm talking about. This is hokey role-playing crap. I'm talking about something that completely detaches from the notion of physical boards and pieces and engages directly as competitive video chess. The only concession to traditional tabletop chess would be the symbolic imagery to recognize the pieces.
Ethan Brown
do you mean something like autochess? that's already been done, pal.
Lincoln Phillips
How long until Chess BR where 100 people compete on a 16000 x 16000 board?
Connor Scott
and with a little bit of tinkering it can look even better.
