You know how base sim games are bare bones so they can shell out expansions? 4 is even more bare bones and they decided to split old expansions up so they can sell every little feature they introduced separately. So if you aren't planning on shelling out for the gazillion stuff packs then it's not worth it.

It's a bit of a shame since a couple of things are nicely fleshed out. Vampires are actually pretty fun now and the new Strangerville expansion actually feels like something new even though it's really short.
But for every one thing they build upon they strip down ten more. You'll especially feel it if you play Sims 2, since a lot of the expansions are just ripped off from it but with even less shit.

Look up games4theworld downloads for 4. It is significantly more simple than even paying for all of the bullshit pack and expansions, and it includes all the latest stuff. If you get it all, I'd say the Sims 4 is a better version of 2 with added features, like emotions and multitasking.
