The Cameo System is not true co-op. While playing, there will come times when characters intersect in the story and can encounter other characters(players) either just visually or even smacking demons around together. If you're not connected to the internet, you'll get AI buddies.

Well different user here but I'd say try the other games out first.
See if you like the genre and playstyle before you make the bigger investment into DMC5.
The games are relatively short but most of them have massive replay value in trying out the plethora of options you have to get stylish.

DMC1 was a bit dated for my tastes but many still think it holds up a fair bit.
DMC2 is trash in most people's eyes and thus skippable.
DMC3 is often seen as great.
DMC4:SE has a lot of decent play styles and cahracters but sadly the game is hyper short and has obnoxious backtracking.

The Reboot is another beast entirely that you can try out if you wish.

DMC 5 has a recap movie to get you caught up plot wise, but I'd say play the earlier stuff to appreciate how the series progressed.

I like starting with the griffon flank, followed by a shadow combo while I charge up griff, then when cat's combo finishes pop off a big shock with bird. Using one pet to attack while charging the other for a big attack usually pumps the rank up pretty well and makes it easier to get to SSS

You guys playing any other DMCs while you wait? All I had left to finish was the Definitive Edition of DmC since I only played the original version around release. As I expected, it's still my second least favorite only ahead of DMC2, but I do appreciate some of the gameplay tweaks and the overall speed boost.

I've come full circle since DmC was the first one I finished. I'd tried DMC4 but couldn't get the hang of it and DmC's controls clicked a bit better. Now it's the opposite. After properly learning and enjoying 1, 3, and 4 controls, it's DmC that feels out of place in my muscle memory. Still, it's nice to have context with each game and understand the series's highs and lows.

Everybody in these threads has made it a hell of a lot of fun waiting for DMCV.

Logically I'd honestly say he should be absolutley pathetic in the eyes of our protagonists.
He got BTFO'd by a Sparda powered Dante in DMC1 and considering it took him 2000 years of absolutely SEETHING at his lost right hand man to recover.

In order to make him an actual threat if he shows up again I'd put at about 2 to 3 times stronger than Dante at the end of 5.
So him and Vergil need to team up and level grind themselves a fair margin to wreck him again.

I've had sweet surrender appear once and it was in a boss fight where it actually came in handy as a quick heal
