The Undertale Demo was also a moment from the final game, besides, would you REALLY dismiss criticisms of a 3+ hour game because it's "JUST A DEMO!"

Undertale didn't even do that, you get no actual development of anyone really, but those characters are for more memorable.

Because Deltarune (as far as we can tell) is literally a different game about a core cast.

Anyone else paranoid about Ralsei being too nice for this shithole of a setting? On one hand he could be a lying bitch (or at least mistaken since the first prince we saw was Lancer not Ralsei and NEITHER went with us to the Fountain). On the other hand Toby is definitely suspicious and could had planned for that reaction since we know he'd pull that shit.

Gameplay wise its too close to a standard JRPG with Undertale mechanics thrown in. Considering this is the first act it is too early to say.

However I'm looking at this game and the town is full of assholes and its like "Toby why did you make a shitty AU of your own game".

I doubt that, at most I'm expecting the twist to be Kris getting fully taken over and he'll be a boss fight, and depending on how much you actually killed in your playthrough, it will determine how hard the boss fight against him will be(since apparently Toby says the game will only have 1 ending, I think this is his incentive for doing a pacifist run)

I don’t think I agree. Deltarune’s characters feel a lot more fleshed out and well written to me, especially the side characters in the town at the end of the game. There’s so many different stories going on that it feels a lot more alive than Undertale, despite being infinitely more linear. I really hope we get a Persona kind of thing going on where Kris and Susie go through new Dark Worlds and become closer to their classmates while helping them cope with their problems.

who knows if chapter 2 of deltarune will even involve Lancer and the Dark World?

You don't blow your load in the demo, you put enough to give the jist. Undertale's demo only runs up until the door out of the ruins.
Deltarune is a bigger game, so it makes sense that it's demo would take longer.

I have a feeling that Deltarune’s themes could be based around using fiction to cope with reality.
You could consider Kris as the Dungeon Master of the Dark World. He brings Susie into his magical world of fiction and she comes out a better person at the end of it, more prepared to deal with her life in reality. That’s not even getting into the whole Heart/Soul stuff.
Or Toby could be throwing us all for a loop like the madman he is.

calling it now, each chapter will give you a different party member(replaced each chapter)+Ralsei, and each one will be a student in your class(like the deer girl, the bird boy, the snake kid) and at the end you get to choose which one to take to the final boss

That's just it. Ralsei is the one who says he's a prince. He claims the town is empty and he lives in the castle.
There's no proof either way. Design suggests to me it is a ghost town. As in Ghosts not an empty town. He refuses us entry to the castle and when we're done he practically chases us away towards the Fountain and doesn't come with us IN SPITE HE WAS THE VERY FUCKING PERSON TO TELL US WE NEEDED HIM TO SEAL THE GOD DAMN FOUNTAIN.
As the first character we actually talk to after falling into the Dark World he is right there with Flowey even though he acts like Toriel as our guide.
Lancer is the only CONFIRMED prince that we know of. He was instrumental in rallying the Darkners to overthrow his father. He walked the same path we did and pretty much went on the same journey.
It is possible that Ralsei's castle and himself are newly formed as the new Fountain is closer to the edge of nowhere than the highly populated Card Castle with the Fountain right up next to it. If so it is possible that Ralsei is a new Prince.
However he only claims to be a prince and there's no proof that his castle has anyone/no one or if he's just trying to be the hero of the legend he claimed was a thing.

I'm going with the theory that Ralsei is closely linked to Kris' childhood. His sycophantic personality makes him desperate to fit in and be accepted by Kris, even if Kris abuses him, which could reflect Kris' possible feelings of disconnection from his monster family.
The possible connection between Ralsei and the red horn band Kris used to wear cements this in my mind.

There's definitely going to be some sort of twist with Ralsei. I don't think he'll be a villain, more that he'll have some kind of character growth away from what he wishes he could be.

If you don't let Ralsei tell you the story, Lancer will come up, say the same thing, and paint himself as the bad guy.

He's clearly the Darkner of Kris's lost headband.
The affection probably stems from the fact that he was Kris's, he was cherished and had a purpose every day Kris had the headband, and he wasn't discarded intentionally.

It is possible that he is being tricked or used by someone who set up the Legend to keep a prince from helping to seal the new Fountains.
But who knows?
I read the manual too. That line just gave a reason why all the Darkners are people and not just objects/toys/game pieces.
To be fair Lancer's also a bit of an idiot who wants to be so bad so cool.

I'd say I preferred it to that much of Undertale, keeping in mind that Undertale's a much shorter game than Deltarune presumably will be considering what we have of Deltarune is equivalent to just the Ruins in Undertale. A lot more obviously happens in Undertale in that time, but it also has a much quicker pace than Deltarune because of its length. I generally find Deltarune to have a lot more promise than Undertale had just going off of the demos of each, the only thing I found particulalry underwhelming in Deltarune was the fight with the King. He's the first big boss, so maybe he's not supposed to have that much impact, being the first boss, but he's still pretty forgettable as a character and a fight.

I hope in the full game more fights have something similar to what Jevil had where acting costs you meter. One thing I do not like about the combat in Undertale is that it feels like your only input is defensive, other than dodging in the bullet hell sections you just trial and error through your acting options if you're going pacifist and then just use the right one on every encounter once you've found it, otherwise you just attack and you only have one kind of attack so there's not much going on there either. It mixes together turn based combat and bullet hell, but the turn based side of it is so shallow that it's only purpose is just to give you the means to choose to act or attack as well as to heal, and Deltarune doesn't feel that different for the most part, but in the Jevil fight it completely solves the problem by making all three party members need to be alive to hypnotize, making it so you need to work towards being able to use your different actions and making it so Ralsei is needed for the pacification. It makes it so you actually need to be considerate of what you do on the offense beyond just heal and act, you have to actually think about what action you want to use, who you want to heal, who should build meter and so on.

Dude, the rest of Undertale was completely different from the demo.
The demo set up the whole game to be rather deadpan and serious but when the full release came around, the rest of the game was really lighthearted and silly.
Toby said that he probably wouldn't be able to offer the same experience as Undertale again so he's going with something different.
Deltarune feels more campy and filled with tropes, but Toby plays off those things so well here that it doesn't really matter because the demo has so much charm and character.

The king does tell Ralsei that he will "die with the pathetic Lighters you worship". That's not exactly saying he isn't a Lightner, but it's close.

Some people are trying to theorize that Deltarune is going to have some serious shit go down one way or the other.
We have no idea how really but somethings don’t feel quite right and might be building up to something bigger. Like Noelle, I think Toby is planning something big for her down the line

Toby said in an interview that Undertale and Deltarune spawned from a fever dream he had where he experienced an ending to a video game, so yeah there's probably going to be a huge revelation at the end of something.
