The best game in it's trilogy but nearly every Caius fight is bullshit and has a gigantic 'difficulty' spike that boils down to "I hope you grinded enough under the guise of 'exploring' time and fucking around, otherwise you aren't winning this shit", even the final boss. The story? pretty ok, the gameplay great, except in those instances where you can be wiping the floor with every encounter, and then you come across edgelord and he's just like "fuck your smooth story progression".
All in all, pretty fucking good otherwise.

What's wrong with PC port? Not trying to bait, I only played it on X360 so I don't know. I heard that PS3 version has longer load times compared to X360 (if you install it on X360 HDD, apparently you can't install PS3 disc version)

Well it crashes 100% of the time at certain spots without a fan made patch, my system exceeds the recommended specs by a lot and it regularly drops below 20FPS with occasional major stutters, load times are way too long even on an SSD and as a more anecdotal one - I don't think 1920 x 1080 actually renders at that resolution, it has weird artifacting that leads me to believe it's rendered at 720p or lower and poorly upscaled.
Other than the crashes those issues affect all of the XIII games on PC as it's the same engine.

I mean, it didn't stop me finishing XIII and getting about 70% through XIII-2. Just a shame to see such shoddy ports alongside the pretty damn good XII port.

I thought Caius fights were pretty hype and the difficulty spike was part of it; I always ended up having enough exp to spend before big fights anyway. The thing that infuriated me about the final boss, though, was how long it took me to beat him and there's one particular attack you better switch to all-defense paradigm to if you don't want it to instant kill you and that attack is pretty insidiously placed.

One step forwards, two step back. DLC saves it but the battle system before it came out was gimped from the previous one. The also made the crystarium needlessly complex for the sake of customization when the first game did it fine with the equipment and synch bonus. Story was good and the evolution of the world and character was the best part. Overall, a great game but not as the one before or after it.

My only problem with the crystarium was that you couldnt go back if you accidently put the wrong level into a big node. Otherwise, you sound like a shitter that cant be bothered to do even a little bit of planing. Also, what do you mean by gimped battle system? Its the same as XIII just with a few extra options, like leader switching, or setting paradigms to focus on single targets or wide aoe.

Most have their own considerable fanbases, so their relative absence is necessary. It's either FFIII (the original) or Before Crisis. I'm going with FFIII. It's incredible and single-handedly justified the Famicom.
