Maybe it was a regional thing, but in my neighborhood guitar hero was king and rockband was considered cheap knock off. Was it like this for anyone else?

Guitar Hero 2 & 3 are the kings yeah. But Rockband was the first one to add a singer I'm pretty sure.

Rock Band was made by the team that made Guitar Hero in the first place. Guitar Hero from 3 onwards was just Activision keeping the IP alive with other teams.

It was the opposite in my circle. There was one guy that unironically preferred post-GH3 Guitar Hero games to Rock Band and he always got laughed out of the room. He also had shit taste in music, which I'm sure wasn't a coincidence.

Rock Band 3 was the peak of "guitar/band" games.

This is untrue, Rock Band's timing window is far more strict. GH3 onwards is way too damn lenient with it's timing window.

I always thought RB3 was a downgrade. For me, even though RB2 was still good and had a lot of songs on it, RB1 is still the best one.

Rock Band 3 introduced a ton of great shit like vocal harmonies, keyboard, and pro-drums, as well as having access to every Rock Band song ever sans-Beatles on top of having a pretty killer setlist in it's own right. There were also a lot of good QOL features.

From a pure, mechanical perspective, it's the best game in the series.

Rock Band 4 however... Yikes.

Going back to Guitar Hero's charting after Rock Band is disgusting. The amount of Insert Random Notes Here is gross.

My niggas. Me and my old friends started around 8 pm one night and it was truly a battle of attrition. Morale was low by the end of it, but playing green grass and high tides to end it all was truly a great experience. Expert is the only way to go, but my drummer went hard because he didn't want us to get stuck on the harder songs because of him.
