I read a fapfic novella about a sentient wolf that gets captured (along with some other animals) by a psychic hivemind ant colony that fattens them up to obscene proportions. The novella was written with especial focus on the health effects of such a treatment. I've noticed a common problem in the character creator of all the games. Apparently the artists had never seen blonde people. Eyebrows and facial hair from from different follicles and are thicker and darker hairs. So when you make someone who's blonde in Mass Effect, they'll have overly bright bleached facial hair. The only alternative is to change your facial hair to a completely different shade and all that ends up looking like is as if your character has dyed his hair like some meathead chad

Citadel was written by different people and was deliberately going for a Joss Whedon tv show approach, which turned out much better. All of the DLC writing is much better than the base game honestly, and I don't think the game would have as negative of a reaction if it was all included at the start.
