The bonus levels can be ignored if you don't want to do them, the balance is untouched except for Diablo who isn't as weak anymore. Now compare looting systems. Specifically how in diablo 1 you cant even highlight items on the ground so you end up missing half of them because they're camouflaged with the corpses, how counterintuitive the inventory is and how you have to keep littering tristram with gold because you cant hold it.
Also maybe mention how in tristram you cant run for some reason, how enemies tend to permastun you, or the pain in the ass that is playing warrior and having to chase every single ranged enemy halfway across the map walking at snails pace until you finally corner them
