Still optional. The other dream bosses + the trees give enough essence for the awakened dream nail and true ending. You literally dont have to fight the dream warriors if you dont want to. And regular enemies can drop essence too. They do add 1% each to your clear rate though.

So after around 36 hours I'm done with this game.

I think it's a really great game and had a lot of fun playing. I tried NKG a few times but that seemed too difficult. Also tried fighting Radiance a couple of times and that seemed like a fight that I might be able to win but honestly having to fight HK again every time I died was boring and tedious and made me lose interest in trying that fight anymore. That's just me being lazy and impatient though.

Looking forward to Silksong whenever that releases.

I think Failed Champion is the easiest dream boss, and would use him in the pantheons to heal up to full and max out soul meter. Just keep hitting him nonstop. Walk under him when he jumps up. When he jumps away he does big shockwave so get ready to jump. When he slams back and forth just hit the rocks back at him for damage. And when you knock him down you can dream nail him twice for more soul before attacking him so you can heal or use spells to speed fight up. You also get to hit him a bunch as he's standing up and starting his next attack (the back and forth slam).

Soul Tyrant was the hardest for me when I first played it. Probably because I initially missed the soul sanctum and went to the waterways, ancient basin and even kingdom's edge before actually realizing I missed an entire subzone.
By the time I got to Soul Master I think I might have had coiled nail so he went out really easily.
My progression path was all kinds of retarded actually since I didn't explore mantis village properly so I missed Mantis Lords and went back to explore howling cliffs, bought the lantern and went to crystal peak and got the dream nail before entering city of tears.

You need to get the Kingsbrand before killing Herrah for that to happen. It's understandable that Herrah is your last dreamer because fuck Deepnest.

No, I missed the tear also, and I somewhat blame it on the map. Big rooms get marked as explored even if you only see a small part of them, and I think the room where you first hear Dung Defender is a part of such a big room. So I've never even got to that dung room because when I looked at the map it was already marked as explored and I didn't realize I haven't actually been there yet.
Oh well, at least I got to fight Hornet 2 and see the Abyss on my first playthrough.

I didnt have the spell when I fought him in first playthrough, and juggle strat is more obvious.

The first thing I would have done after acquiring the tear would be exploring Fog Canyon. At that point Monomon was my last dreamer to kill, so after that I would have went to check on the egg and finished the game.
Without the tear you have to get shadow cloak to get to Monomon. There's a crystal heart sequence break, but that's probably not something people find on their first playthrough.

If you want ez mode, just get Lifeblood Heart + Lifeblood Core + Quick Slash, facetank him and done.

Because you got good by the time you reached him.

You should probably do the void heart endings first, as getting 112% means beating pantheon of the knight (and the 3 before it), which has a fight harder than HK. The fifth pantheon doesnt add to completion percentage but it does have it's own ending+achievement and will also trigger the 112% achievement.

You can beat any boss if you put enough time into it. I beat Failed Champion with Old Nail, 5 Masks and no Monarch Wings for fun. The only base game bosses that are practically impossible without upgrades are the ones that spawn minions with enough health to live multple nail hits.

Wait until later in the game.
Once you have 7 masks of hp, 8 charm slots, Double jump, and the 3rd nail upgrade (requires 2 pale ore), you can s h r e k the dream bosses.

For Lol Tyrant use Fragile Heart, Fragile Str, Grubsong and Soul Catcher. He gives you plenty of healing opportunity during phase 1.
In phase 2 can smack his bum from underneath and dash away when he tries to dive you, so you should be able to kill him in his 2nd electric ball spam if not his 1st.
For Lost Kin equip Fragile Str, Quick Focus, Grubsong and Defenders Crest. The crest lets you heal without orange balls interrupting you. You do need to be fast in dodging Lost Kin's dash attack but other than that he's not a big deal, it's safe to heal once when he does air dash or when he's staggered.
For Failed Knight leave a maggot alive so you can dream nail it for soul since Knight himself doesn't give you much. I'd go Fragile Strength, Dreamcatcher if you can for quick nail, Grubsong, and Fragile Heart
Stay in his face. If he jumps, go under him. If he goes to smash you with the mace, just eat 2mask in the face like a chump and keep hitting him. Heal 3 times when you stagger him, kick his grub ass, and remember to hit him as much as you can before he starts flailing with the mace. If there's an orange ball between you and him, hit it into him. You should win the DPS race.

I did the first pantheon already but It was really hard and chocked a lot on it so I was ashamed of myself that I failed many times on these easy bosses and went into sulking mode and didnt play at all the next day

I got Lol tyrant with 6 masks 6 charm slots and the 2nd nail upgrade (req 1 pale ore). Fragile Str Fragile Heart (which I didn't even need) and Grubsong.
I got Lost Kin with the similar, swap grubsong for defender's crest. Key is to stay in his stupid face and kick his ass. More soul for you, more staggers so you can heal, faster fight so faster retries.
Failed Knight kicked my ass so I waited until later in the game when I had Quick Slash and he just fuckin D I E D

All else was like 30% luck, 50% gitting slowly gud, and 20% fighting bosses on mute because battle music and boss noises give me anxiety

There's no set order of bosses. You can access Hornet 2 without fighting Dung Defender and you can discover Kingdom's Edge before Royal Waterways.
Also, using gameplay difficulty as an indication of character's powerlevel in the story is fallacious.

Dung Defender has anywhere from 700 to 900 HP depending on your nail upgrades. Hornet Sentinel is locked at 700 HP. We have no real way to measure in-universe combat strength because difficulty is subjective.

Hornet comes in when the HK is already weakened by you, and can only bind him for a few seconds before he throws her off. She's also apparently unable to stay in the temple for long.

Actually, you're not supposed to get there until you get the cloak, but there's some bigger sequence breaking in the game than getting a grub early.

Radiance is at full power inside the Egg thats why.
If she goes in stays in too long She gets into her mind.

Yeah, I think I've found the next area. Greenpath. It's big and has lots of branching paths and at the moment I'm just sort of exploring randomly.

The Radiance is not the reason she's weakening. She's says verbatim "Its bindings would drain me were I to join." That plus the sealed siblings ending makes it obvious what's happening. The seal of the Black Egg Temple is draining her energy to power itself, putting her into the same sleep as the Dreamers.

Current Hornet is maybe, *maybe* near Great Knight level. She will definitely get stronger though, she's the kid of a Dreamer and a Higher Being after all. She just has to find someone to teach her how to manipulate dreams and soul. I'd argue that a single Dreamer could easily take on all the Great Knights together if they're all roughly on the level of Dung or even White Defender.

Almost guarantee you won't be able to get to some of the areas anyway. You'll want to revisit areas after a few new abilities and generally that's how you find the various through-routes, extra items and such.

Endings dont matter, you can get them all in one playthrough. I did all achievements in 3 runs.
1. 112% all endings, save zote, dont kill nailsmith, defeat NKG
2. Steel Soul 100% under 20 hours, leave zote, kill nailsmith, banishment
3. 5 hour speed run.

I've completed first two pantheons and killed the fucking zote in his dream for the 8th nametag but holy fucking shit I hate the trial so god damn much.

In the first phase, stay on ground and force him to do those 3 consecutives attacks by moving close then instantly moving back (try to always leave enough room to move back). After the second attack dash pass him to dodge the third sawblade like attack and hit him.
Watch where he is when he starts charging a nail art attack. If he is close, dash back; if he is far, jump over him; if he is on air, jump and start pogoing his spin attack.
For the second phase, stay on mid and wait for him to dash near you, then dash to the opposite direction from where he is coming from to dodge the saw, then immediately go back and try to hit him. Also, use a nail length enhancer charm and git gud.

A lot of the backtracking to bosses is dumb, especially to dream bosses. Wanting to a spell only build meant having to collect essence before every fight it was annoying as all hell.

Yes. They needed a Vessel that completly Hollow of Emotions, Thoughts and everything because Radiance infects those who have them. So the "Hollow Knight" could contain Radiance. That was the Pale King plan.

He fucked up tho because he started to look at Hollow Knight as his Son and the Hollow Knight started to have feelings but also trying to surpass then because he know how important his role was. But still fucked up and couldn't contain Radiance forever.

So I don't really expect an answer to this one but what other avenues were being explored to deal with the Radiant infection? The soul master guy has some bit about "using soul" to fight it and I vaguely remember something about the mantises being immune, but why did the king eventually commit to this absurdly elaborate plan? Just seems convoluted, like how did he even know he could contain it?

If the game's gonna have a call-back Mr Mushroom is the perfect choice, seeing as he travels from place to place

To a sense same with the Troupe...guess it depends on the state of the kingdom we're in with Silksong.

The Radiance is basically the ultimate plague. A hivemind capable of regrowing from an errant thought dreamed about. You can tell people not to think about such a thing, but as the mines demonstrate, simply having an idol dedicated to it seems to be able to bring it back while it still exists somewhere, even metaphysically

In terms of the Soul Master, I believe it was a combination of the King already dedicating himself to the abyss, and judging by the colour of his spells, the Soul Master was probably becoming enamoured enough with The Radiance that he was corrupt, even if he was strong enough to mostly maintain a sense of self. That and his methods were also pretty dangerous, distilling citizens into power as it was

The Soul Master acted on his Own, He thought he can resist Radiance influence if he gets as many souls as he can. So he butchered a fuck ton of Bugs in the City of Tears for souls but it didnt work

And the Mantis I actually dont Remember but they were a really resilliant race for the Radiance they had too much focus on Honor and Fightning so they didnt want Magic Orange Juice power up shit

Expect the 4th Mantis Lord Sister who gave in that's why She's the "Traitor Lord" and looks so THICC, You can even see her seat broken at the fight I didn't even notice it just like at my 3rd playtrough

Like....just outright raw power? Fragile Strength for nail, or pretty much all the soul spell boosting stuff along with using the upgrade versions of each. Not enough slots to do both that well though from what I recall.

Stuff like this is the reason I gave up trying the Godmaster stuff. I hadn't played since the previous DLC, and struggled to get back into it, thought about doing a fresh run to get my skills back into order, but ultimately the idea of fighting EVERY boss in the game sequentially, when I knew I was only good enough to beat them if I had a chance to set specific charms for each told me not to bother.

The second one (800g + 1 Ore) raises your damage by 45%

For general playing tips, contrary to many bosses, don't jump too much.

Without knowing what charms you have though it's hard to suggest a build, but the defenders crest mitigates the orange dudes, or stacking lifeblood charms mitigates the need to heal at all in lieu of just avoiding getting hit too often.

Defender's Crest lets you heal if the LK is staggered.

Broken Vessel?
They come out infrequently enough that you should be able to heal. Even if one's up while you stagger the vessel, smack it and hold A.

Equip Dream Wielder and give him the D(ream nail). Also you don't heal while he's tard raging, you heal right when he flies across the arena and before his head pops out.
While he's tard raging you want to get 2-3 hits on him before he jumps and 3-4 hits on him after he lands, and then hit the orange balls into him.

Lost Kin is a motherfucker. I chose to go full magic for it; learn the attack patterns and learn when you can get a single hit in, build your soul up, blast the motherfucker when you get an opening. Shaman Stone required at least. Play safe. Take the long game. Kill orange dudes when they pop up.

I assume you're actually in the City of tears proper, in which case, try seeking entry to the Soul Sanctum within. It's near the top left, although I forget if there's any doors preventing you getting in there.

You should be able to go to the mines (Crystal Peak) from crossroads now. By breaking a floor or getting lamp.

Still only have atuned on AR, dunno if I can ass myself to go back to it all at this point or just consider it finished. I feel finished. I'd like to do a steel soul run down the line so I can just enjoy the game again

I know the mines are there. Cleared the game before. I just somehow skipped it this time entirely and found myself suprised whether there are multiple routes you can take to clear this game. Last playthrough was at it's release so over a year ago already.

Your loss, I suppose. All the DLC's have added and not taken anything away. Then again, if you're not willing to chip the devs $15 then I don't really have any sympathy considering how well they've supported the game for nothing outside the initial price.
