Gen 6 had a theme. RPG classes. I think that's the only group with a theme.

To clarify I do think they'll share a very general theme of things that are of or remind the Pokémon company of Britain

The owl broke the showmanship theme in Sun/Moon though (Unless you want to pay to see archery or something)

If for whatever bizarre reason they happen to be all sports based, monkey will be cricket and water thing will be rugby. No way baseball and american football are even alluded at in the british region

Gen 5 had the royalty theme.

They had Sun Wu Kong in Hokkaido, a samurai in New York, and a ninja in France. It doesn't seem like Game Freak cares about putting starter pokemon based on occupations/roles in the culturally correct location.

That was just European/Chinese/Japanese archetypes, not specifically royalty. Samurott is a samurai as the name implies (or a shogun, which is still distinct from proper nobility much less royalty) and there's nothing particularly dignified about Emboar.
Gen 4 arguably did the same thing (French Emperor Penguin, Sun Wukong monkey, Bonsai turtle)

Baseball exists, and a common thing is where baseball players tap the ground with their bat. On top of that, Grokey could also be a bit of a mashup of the words Green and a corrupted form of Rookie. Although, overall, yeah there's evidence to support that it's not ENTIRELY sports themed.

If they're going for a sports theme, it should be Cricket, with the stick ending up as a Cricket Bat, Football (obviously) then Rugby, which his hands are kind of in the right position for catching/carrying a ball for.

All of its names allude to the fact that its a fire bunny, which is obvious. Where does the soccer element come from?

just its general look and soccer being super popular in england. plus a rabbits defining feature outside of its ears tend to be its legs which are the main focus in soccer, so it fits easily. plus the marking on its face looking like a bandage which is a "sporty" trope

It has a bandage on its nose which is a common trope for sports themed characters and the red thing on its neck emulates a jersey collar. The bandages on its feet might turn into cleats or something when it evolves.
