It's more about the team being bad. At the range it does 102 on crit, the Stock Revolver out DPS's it. You're purposely hurting yourself and praying the enemy team has slow reaction time.
Plus a headshot at close range is alot easier than the usual range it was useful for

Also for extra butthurt, use a kunai and name it something Weeb related.
The DR is optional but it's easy to insult. The Invis Watch gives more fresh and unpredictable butthurt in the chat.

Pyros need to learn airblast mechanics, damage calc, flare placement, and ambush spots. Pyro is easy to play but moderately difficult to master. The difference between a W+M1 nerd and an actual Pyro main is staggering.

Pyro just doesnt counter a spy outright. I have 0 issues dispatching Pyros. The real Spy counter is Soldier. Spies cannot touch Soldiers at all.

The real counter to spy is scout, of course you need to have better aim than the spy does but hey that's your fucking job as a scout to be as accurate as possible to make the most of the scatter.

They buffed the dead ringer allowing it to nullify afterburn in the last updates, and given how much effort a player has to put to kill DR spies, it really feels like it's not balanced. No one ever tries to make it seem like a legit kill, it's always used as a shield.

I don't know, facing a pyro that knows how to airblast very well can be very frustrating and it will often cause projectile classes to retreat which helps a lot to capture points and stuff.

if you truly are a good pyro you can counter those classes easily

Airblast is pretty simple. .8 seconds between blasts, point where you want stuff to go (although pointing at the ground makes people fly further).
Damage calc?
Flares are the fastest projectiles, not hard to use.
Pyro skill level doesn't seem to matter much past valve pubs, any class with a shotgun is going to destroy them if they can aim. Only thing excels at is baby sitting sentries.

Hopefully the DDS gets nerfed, but be careful regardless. Bullets fly a bit faster than your flares.

Scout is a definite 2nd. Out DPS's Spy in nearly all ranges, minus xd long range.

But Soldier does not even need to be in close range to dispatch a Spy. He will always out DPS and out maneuver a Spy. That's why he is a true counter.

Pyro gets soft-countered by every combat class.

It's just fun to airblast them to cuck their dead ringer, homewreck all their sappers and melt their spycicles. It's almost guaranteed rage.

Airblasting projectiles. It's muscle memory and important to learn.
Damage calculating, so you know how much HP an enemy has and can properly predict their next movement and adapt.

Reflecting's got a low skill-ceiling, it's just reaction speed and maybe some prediction which goes out the door against skilled players anyway.
Every class has to know damage numbers.
Flares really don't take much practice to use and ultimately aren't powerful. 90 damage with about two seconds in between shots just doesn't stack up to other classes.

i think the reason it might've been highlander was because some sigafoo guy visited the tf team and talked about weapon balance.
the weapons they talked about also happened to be some of the weapons rebalanced in the update (the razorback, DR, and Ambassador)
as for the diamondback, i think valve just flat out forgot about the thing, though people have made more noise about it now so it has a larger chance of getting a rebalance in the next update.

Trickstabbing once you've been found out at close range is really down to sheer luck. You just need 2 good shots, in less than a second. Spy is better off trying to gun v gun.

Because making it so that airblast gives you FAN knockback while airborne has the side effect of being really clunky due to the fact that if you try air blasting away a rocket during your jump then you ruin your jump. Also it would be way too easy and would also not involve the HP cost that normal jumping has, thus lacking the crucial balance element that keeps jumping from being broken. Things that scorch jumping doesnt have to deal with. Additionally the pyro would be the only one to require swapping to a secondary in order to jump, differentiating it from soldiers and demos (for whom the sticky launcher is the primary). Back when Valve was first designing the scorch shot and the detonator, both actually did give you a full rocket jump's worth of distance but they scaled it back because they didn't want Pyro to be effective since his weapon is broken in terms of balancing. This would be just rolling back the nerf.

Then just don't airblast the rocket while trying to jump. Other classes can't airblast rockets mid-jump and they do just fine.
Scorch has a 2 SECOND firing interval on jumps. It wouldn't be as unique as air jumping, nor would it be as versatile, and it would restrict your secondaries loadout to 1 choice to play the class viably, which is dumb.

Stupid argument user, nobody considers double jumping or FaN jumping "way too easy" or "broken" despite the fact they have no HP cost.
It would cost 1/10 of your ammo and is attached to one of the weakest classes in the game, so that's cost enough. The aim is to buff Pyro, not to change him in a way that has perfect upsides and downsides so he ends up not improved at all.

Sticky launcher might be the primary in spirit but actually isn't the primary, so you would be wrong. It also shows how much of a meaningless distinction that is. Whether it's your primary or secondary is not a big difference at all.
With airblast jumping you would be able to rapidly change your direction midair 9 times in a way similar to the old conc jumping of TFC, which would make it unique and provide something that doesn't exist on any other stock class.
