[Nasomi] bros

ASSEMBLE

Is sad that retail killed himself with all the solo stuff

>before 2013
>any solo was a top tier guy killing difficult stuff all by himself alone

>today
>people call a "solo/soloer" a guy with 5 npc killing hard stuff

what went wrong?

>Lizzy is up randomly
>stand there for a minute waiting for someone to show up
>no one comes to claim
>kill Lizzy
>galka mnk runs up
>told him it didn't drop the boots
>it totally dropped the boots

I was out of school for a week from surgery and spent most of it camping this fucker. Got the drop and gave it to a noob who just happened to be with me, never got it again on retail.
Era 4 lyfe

>top tier guy
spoken like a true RDM doofus

I remember WAITING for ages for Lizzy and only seeing like once. I took a short break from FFXI and when I returned, in passing saw it just standing there. Boots first try.

Avesta owned bro, don't talk shit

based retard

I killed lizzy once by accident just walking by and failed every time i was looking for it. I did kill that monk nm and got the jujitsu gi? Cant remember it was on ps2.

AHHHHHHHHH GIVE ME THE GOD DAMN BOOTS ALREADY

Attached: 1547988157888.png (200x200, 33K)

Making gil in FFXI used to be so fucking broken. You either spent countless hours farming something mundane to sell stacks of shit to crafters for pennies per hour, or you camped NMs that spawned every 2-6 hours, had a 15% drop rate, and were being camped by 10+ other assholes who all wanted the big money drop

To this day I have no idea how you were supposed to make money. They needed something like solo dynamis farming. Everyone I knew was either broke or bought gil

Never farmed in retail. I made gil at low levels by selling Crystals from leveling, at mid levels by doing bcnms and selling drops while recycling gear, and at high levels by doing enm/ksnms and dynamis.

The Puk ISNM for Khroma Ore is how I made gil.

Same. FFXI was also my first MMO so I was incredibly stupid when it came to selling shit on the Auction House. I made a lot of my money grinding silk off of the worms in the starting areas and turning them in to a repeatable quest NPC, rather than selling larger stacks I could have easily made more money off of.

BCNM were pretty good but they weren't introduced until like 2 years after the game launched, and those ones were extremely hard to do for most people since you needed very specific setups

The Puk one in TAU was basically the first one that just about any setup could do, and that was like 4 years later

Eden's the upcoming server i've been tracking their population and they peek at 400 characters in the weekend while hovering around 300 character in the deadest hours of the week. I don't play there but i'm interested and if you call me a shill then well you're shilling nasomi like crazy, believe me or not but i don't even play FFXI. I only observe the landscape of private servers.

Spent an entire day camping him one time with a friend to get them the boots, killed 9 straight spawns before getting it.

Fuck I wish I was young again and could easily stay awake 2-3 days at a time playing a MMO.

Id buy low from ah and then resell higher. I also scammed casinos quite a few times. Ended up in a dungeon once for it

Who else Alexander?
There was one dude camping Lizzy day in , day out 24/7
his name.... fucking SPUD

Attached: robot.gif (500x500, 124K)

i wanna fuck it

I loved it because unlike other MMOs you weren't simply given money for existing, if you wanted money you had to go out and earn it and as you said, you had to figure it out yourself.

Early on I made a friend and we both went around as RDM/NIN farming out of the way NMs that most people ignored, most notably we did the quicksand cavern ones that at the time could drop adaman ore which was like 100k a pop. We'd just go around together doing all sorts of NMs and selling the drops for cash. Eventually once we moved on to being a part of a HNM shell we went around with a little larger group and locked down all sorts of high tier NMs and low tier HNMs and sold drops for big bucks. On the side I was also flipping big ticket items between bazaars and private buyers, I used to buy Enhancing Swords for 5-15 mil and flip them for a solid 20-40+. We would also do BCNMs whenever seals stacked up and sold those items for good money.

Fun times though, I liked the fact that I could separate myself from everyone else by finding opportunities and really getting out there and adventuring. I bet most people didn't even know half of those NMs existed and here I was making bank off them.

You're weird.
I had my mule in Sandy buy vendor items and my mule in Jeuno sell them on AH. Literally took like 5min per day. I funded RDM up to 60 doing that.

God I miss this game

I don't understand why more people don't play on era. It's the server that has the most functioning content, with the most frequent updates and a very reliable uptime.

I want to go back, but we never can.

Me too. I wish square would do some progression ffxi servers like Everquest. If Everquest can sustain it, so can ffxi. Maybe if wow classic is a success they’ll consider it. Fuck trannies xiv.

I played on Carbuncle. I miss you all.

I doubt that would ever happen, most of the original FFXI playerbase is too old to put time into it and they've already done all that content anyway. Can't really justify going back to something that hardcore for a second time just for shits and giggles. The new breed of MMO players out there wouldn't even make their way out of the starting city before quitting.

Yo same, from 03 to 09. What linkshells?

Inferno, just a small group of loose internet friends; nothing extreme

what would you think of a legacy server with 75 cap and some xp adjustments so you can solo (very slowly) and not want to drink sand

>they've already done all that content
No way, most of the playerbase only leveled up 1-3 jobs to 75 and that's it. And you still had fags who didn't even reach 75 at all. And most fags didn't even do endgame or anything. Outside of that, it's not even the content itself but the social/group experience that it offers which is unique with each different group of people. But yeah SE will never do it mainly because they don't want to break the current income that the retards still playing retail are giving them.

Don't remember it but that's cool. If you ever played pup I probably talked to you; I made sure carbuncle had the best pups out of any server.

>when FFXI bros are more in touch with reality than Wowfags

As i understand it. Firstly it's not classic enough for most people, secondly the classic rate of exp is optional which is as good as "not worth choosing", why gimp yourself when other don't.
Thirdly i've seen posts about how it used to be easier to get things but they recently clamped down and new players are shit out of luck while old players already got their stuff back when.

That's basically what Era is. You get 4x exp but when you make a character, you have the option to play at 1x exp instead if you wanna be hardcore / oldschool. Doing the 1x exp gets you some other benefits too

it's the only thing they have to cling on since the normal game isn't doing too hot right now,not to mention people who play wow have always gotten really denfensive when any new mmo came out

Love you all the same. Mithra THF/NIN.
Wish we could go back and meet back then. All the best to you.

I've played on there for a while so I can speak on the things that got changed recently. There was a bonus to EXP granted when using a teleport Moogle that was meant to be a temporary thing but kept being left on in updates, and people got so used to it that when they finally took it off, some players thought it was a removal of some standard feature. They did also block reentry to dynamis Jueno to an hour because it was being abused. Since dynamis is free, this is still way friendlier than retail so it's not a bad thing.

Who /odin/ here?

You ever hang out with Eliseo? That dude was so cool.

workin on all crafts to 60 right now on nasomi. got about 20 levels left on gs and leather, and 40 on smithing. haven't exp'd in like a month

thinking about taking gs up to 100 like I did in retail

Man I miss being an erp slut on asura back in the day. Fucked so many people

Attached: 1548538096709.jpg (251x253, 27K)

Went to the pol chat rooms for a while. Thought it was just like 5 people erping under different names but then I found there was always a room of real cool people. Some midwest dad, a chick in Japan, and a German who just hung out in polchat instead of actually playing xi. I think about those guys often.

>new players are shit out of luck tha told players got before server changes
this is why i avoid era and nasomi

Is XI worth trying in 2019?
I enjoyed what I played of EverQuest P99

ff XI or XIV? never played XI and stopped playing XIV for long time now

Attached: 456.jpg (314x313, 10K)

Play wherever you want, but don't just assume vague accusations are true. There haven't been any changes on era to screw over new players and favor legacy players, check

I remember those I also remember getting erp'd by fenrirs big wolf knot in pol chat

sure but it's very different from how it used to be

have you ever played a very old mmo before?

I wrote that thirdly because that's what i read on the internet take that as you will.
My dream would be to unite all private servers into a single shard, to hell with tailored experiences and exp rates adapted to one's willingness.
Someone picks, one of them choses and lays waste to other servers so that FFXI can live again.

Play a private server, retail XI is an abomination of the mechanics of an old MMO all being chopped up and frankenstein'd into a modern WoW-clone (so it's better than a WoW-clone in some senses but it's still shit and a husk of anything that made it good before )

You can't just make that social atmosphere happen, it was there because of the people, the times, and the attitudes. If they released a progression server it wouldn't have anywhere near the community aspect that made XI so fun to begin with. Like I said, most players are too old and just don't have the time to play, the rest already spent thousands of hours conquering said content and have no reason to do it again. All you're left with is the half wits and casuals that want to pop in and take a look, you're not going to get a solid close knit community out of them.

FFXI was one hell of an experience and you can't simply wave your hand and make it happen again.

>I started in the XI beta and by the time I quit in 2008~ish I put over 30,000 hours into the game.

There is no going back for me, as much as i love the game I've done everything i set out to do. It was a magical time and I deeply miss the people I played with but those times are over and gone. A 75 cap/vanilla/progression/whatever server would be a hollow experience, the same tough content I've already mastered so I have nothing to strive for or prove, and none of those best buds I had back then to do it with.

>bot claims it instantly

I will learn to bring dead communities back to life. I will turn the needles of time.
These adults who don't have time to play will keep getting older and when they are retired they will have all the time again.

Attached: baww.png (265x265, 115K)

My dad is 50, works 10 hours a day, and still comes home and plays on EverQuest progression servers because he loves the game. FFXI progression servers wouldn't have a huge audience, but there would be an audience. They'd bring in more people if they let it share a sub with FFXIV too.

No anakin.
When they are retired they will be running out time.

yep, anarchy online

Yes, but see . Still a fun game in its own right, but don't expect to see places full of players everywhere you go like in its glory days. In my opinion, there are silver linings to that, like seeing OP all alone while on a stroll for a quest and getting the boots right there.

Attached: Everyday's great at your Jeuno.jpg (1462x622, 126K)

The world, story, and music are still there but the gameplay is a twisted mess and the community has disappeared. You can still enjoy the former because FFXI will always have incredible atmosphere but yeah, it's just a curiosity now and not a world you get to be a part of.

>Era
Is that the 4x exp server? Bollocks to that.

Aparently you can choose a 1x exp rate with added rewards but are they worth it?
The point of having everyone on the same leveling curve is obvious.

No one sits in Jeuno anymore though, they all chill in best city Adoulin. City is always packed like Jeuno was back in the day at least on Asura anyway.

>some xp adjustments
Count me the fuck out, m8. Go vanilla or go away.

Nasomi is the best experience desu

>and exp rates adapted to one's willingness.
How do you not get how much of a mess this would be? It's a bloody stupid idea that could never work.

Loved this game so much. Can't comprehend how many hours I played this. How many 24 hours straight sessions. Funny thing is even If I played it absurdly much I only became level 55 or something. If I remember correctly you had to do quests every 5 levels after 50 or you couldn't progress. Me and my friend stood in Jueno for days trying to find a group but never found one. Then we said fuck this game and quit, I think wow was just around the corner at that time. Have fun memories of the game though. I don't think there's a game where I romanticize the memories of pain and endless grind and waiting. FFXI worked against you every step of the way but I smile thinking about it now. Will never be a game like it.

Hey Chell

anyone from nasomi?

I tried joining an EQ progression server once. Had a free month from an unused CD-key, so I figured I'd see how things were. They just opened Luclin so I figured it was a good time to join with a fresh character.

Did not see more than 5 other players before I got tired of grinding on hoppers. Guess people on those servers only give a shit about clearing the end-game content as fast as possible.

>never play mmos because theyre time vampires
>vow to finish through education first before even trying them
>now got good degrees, flex hour job and all the free time for mmos
>they all turned to SHIT
it's just not fucking fair

I installed it last night and walked around sandy a little but I realized it would just be pointless to waste so much time on an experience I already had. It's best for it to remain a happy memory.

Don't tell me you like those evenings where there was NOTHING to do because there wasn't enough party members available in your level ranged.

How did they update this for ps2? Did you have to buy new disks?

Think the base came with an HDD expansion or something that let you connect to the internet and would store the patches. Something like that (I was a PC fag not ps2 nigger). Expansions came in discs.

I play on nasomi, low level though
you can always re-experience it again, when i logged on after 16 years it was nostalgic

That's exactly the sort of situation faster leveling causes, you knife earned giraffe.

What piece of gear were you most excited over obtaining?

steam scale mail

>waste time both seeking xp and endgame content
as opposed to
>waste time seeking endgame content
suit yourself you poo flinger!

While I prefer the vanilla "torture" authentic experience, that situation is alleviated by the fact you can probably solo exp at a decent enough rate, since I'm assuming everyone at least dual boxes. On era tho I'd assume there's no bot limit and everyone would just 6-bot lmao

I fucking loved that shit too for some reason I don't know why. I bought it when I was Lv25 despite the fact I was immediately going to change to DRK at 30. I remember now actually I think the issue was Chainmail was expensive as fuck so I felt gimp and the steam scale mail gave me even more than chainmail, plus it looked cooler with the rest of the Chainmail set versus a Chainmail body piece. Scale mail gear is kino in terms of looks. Reaching Lv10 is so satisfying it's wierd since your'e barely just starting out, but it looks/feels/is a lot stronger than the leather shit you probably had on kek.

Play online is seriously fascinating. I really want to hear from veteran players if anyone used it

Used it? Of course? Downloading patches, using the messaging/mail system, chat rooms. What else was there?

The emails and chatrooms. When I played it the chatrooms were empty a long with most towns

>play XI last year
>it's boring
How was this game so loved?

Tetra Master or Fantasy Earth Zero during maint was the shit

>Tfw haven't played on Nasomi in a couple months
>Tfw my linkshellmates probably miss me
>Tfw if I come back on they'll most likely try to pressure me to come to events every day again
>At the same time I'm sure they don't even need me anymore and have filled my role in the shell
FUCK I JUST WANNA GRIND SOME SHIT OKAY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Haven't been on Era for like a fuckin year or two since I got some glitch trying to go to the site.

Attached: 1490342014175.png (336x327, 107K)

So Nasomi, Era, or Eden for a newish player? I tried Nasomi for a bit months ago but found myself stopping since I had no friends wanting to join me.

Attached: photo.png (500x500, 132K)

you can choose 1x or 4x rate. 1x players get some extra perks like buffs plus people want to party with them more (cuz they make good syncs).
4x still isnt that high though, specially if you're busy with RL shit and can only play a couple hours a week.

if you decide to go on nasomi, you can play with me im still new

I meant to unite the private servers community we would need a single server therefore the owner must choose the exp rate, a single exp rate and players will accept it and play or abandon it. This single sercer must be the best, perfectly coded and maintained, the true new FFXI. Attempts at new servers must be crushed or others might be tempted to leave in pursuit of what they foolishly desire but the darkstar project must be completed and then war. E-war is the only way to create the unique server with the required population.

you needed to play it in it's 2006~2010 golden age.

I'm an Era player so here's my 2cents as non-biased as I can be.
Nasomi is as close as you can probably get to the true 2006 experience. They dont have later expansions yet (Aht Urghan or Wings of the Goddess), book pages or other quality of life stuff that made leveling easier, added more gear or job classes.
They also have a decent player base, something like 500ish players or more online most of the time so you'll always be able to make proper classic style exp parties and pretend like it's 2006.
Drawbacks though, it's run by a single admin who basically created the server in his image of how ffxi "shouldve" been. It's not 100% true to the actual game, some mechanics are changed (like mob speed is tied to your own movement speed, so you cant kite mobs) and some other things. Mostly shit you wont notice or care about as a new player.
Playerbase are massive autists kind of like the old days, and are scared of non-cookiecutter shit.

Era you have a choice of 1x classic exp or 4x exp. There are buff moogles scattered around for 1x players to use. They also have all 75cap expansions (Aht Urghan and WotG), all content, a good coding team and have the most stable working features of all servers. In ss13 terms, they're the /vg/station of XI private servers.
Drawbacks though are it's a smaller player base of around 60~150 online that's more established. There's only ~5 major LS's and a lot of people have been friends for 5 or more years, but compared to other servers everyone's just chill. The reason they play on era is they're adults with lives, they just want to drink beer after work and kill shit.
Downside to Era is if you live in the Aussie/Asia timezone like me. Basically no-one on. They're mostly active around EU/East coast.
That being said, you can always get a party or experience regardless and you can do endgame n shit without pissing away years of your life.

pt 2

Eden, havent played there myself but a buddy of mine plays there. Seems like a sort of balance between the two, as if Era was restricted to a 1x server.

Basically it boils down to
>want the oldschool grindy classic experience, big player base but less content and autistic players/admin?
Nasomi
>busy in RL but still want to experience the game how it was, while also enjoying the most content, working features job classes and such, dont live in Aus/Asia and dont mind a small but chill community?
Era
>want a sort of mix between the two?
Eden

I originally played on Nasomi and really liked it but ended up moving to Era mostly because I'm a grown-ass man that doesn't have the time to spend 2-3 months lvling my first job to 75. I ended up trying Era, made some friends and now I'm tied to the place because of the people I've gotten to know over the years.

Attached: 1406618474276.jpg (640x480, 277K)

When'd you play? Like this year? No empty towns in the game during 75cap era except the ones that were essentially outposts in the middle of nowhere. Chat rooms probably only got little use early on in the game's life 2002-2005 I'm guessing, with small common users but very booming since everyone congregated when servers were down, especially for expansion maintenance.

youtube.com/watch?v=_oQ9J-HJm5w
hearing this brings back so many memories from when i first played

Eden is the genuine deal. Developers that work pretty hard to produce a 75 era ToAU server, working boats and airships, very active Discord which is a direct communication channel with the developers.

The main caveat is it has level-sync as the population isn't super high, but I've always been able to find a group to do things with in a reasonable time frame (personally idm /yell for 30 minutes to find a group, it comes with the territory of FFXI in the first place).

As a newish player my only other issue with the population number is these are all very dedicated players who like to min-max their gameplay. It's useful because they can answer many of your questions about the game but I would enjoy a more comfy, casual, "none of us really know what we're doing let's adventure out into the wild world" sort of thing. Sadly that wouldn't be an easy thing to find on any Era server I imagine, except Classic WoW which will have large amounts of people who never played Vanilla looking to see what it's all about.

Shilling aside, I chose Eden because I wanted to get as far away from modern mmo philosophies as possible and Nasomi has too many bugs and inconsistencies to make the higher population worth it, plus the economy is broken there with likely RMTing.

All are probably fine honestly but I personally prefer Eden. Nasomi is run by Nasomi himself and he can't code for shit so lots of it is broken. The only benefit is immediate in that it has like 1000ish players and Nasomi dumped thousands to actually buy servers so the Nasomi servers are stable. But damn is it kind of buggy as fuck. It's playable but as a vet it's kind of jarring. Not inherently too bad though, I could stay on Nasomi if I didn't have Eden as an option. Eden has a workable playerbase of about 300 last I checked two months ago.

Basically it's hard to guess because I figure if Eden grows to Nasomi levels, peopld would easily pitch in to buy servers. But maybe Nasomi would finally stop being retarded and let a dev team jump in. Who knows, as it stands I have lv40 and lv20 characters on both, and I'm sticking with Eden for now. It's a guess on my investment though, so either's fine I suppose. It kind of sucks to try both though probably, since you basically have to uninstall and reinstall the game if you want to try each server. As a tidbit I think Nasomi has a little batch file that automatically lets you swap between Nasomi and retail on their wiki.

I have no experience with Era.

Like a year or two ago, I played with a friend who wanted to show me it. I loved the hell out of it and am sad I missed out on it's golden age.

oh also to add
Nasomi you're only allowed to play 1 character and not allowed to use any 3rd party tools or plugins
Eden you can play up to 2 characters at a time and I believe you can use tools and plugins
Era you can multibox up to a full party of 6 at a time and you can use whatever the fuck you want as long as you arent botting or deliberately trying to crash a cluster.

>Nasomi you're only allowed to play 1 character
You're allowed to have two characters as well as an inventory mule, each character is just made with a different game account. You're only allowed to have one FORUM account though as that is supposed to be your "identity" but it's tied to all three of your characters. I think it's fine, though I miss triple boxing in Era.

>inventory mule
how does that work in XI? shared stash/bank?

Attached: justwarmingupmyhands.gif (132x140, 58K)

>Shared
Of course not, there isn't enough technology in XI for that kind of shit. It's just a character devoted to keeping all your items. You still have to manually trade back and forth between your mule and your real characters but it's easier than having to throw away valuable shit just in order to hoard 70 stacks of crystals for crafting.

fucking hell, so sick of those fucking monsters. even people programmed bots to play for them when getting good gear.

>mindlessly farm Lizzy
>Kill lizards left and right
>Inventory is full and the drops are shit so don't care
>After sometime, I see the message that the boots were dropped due to missing inventory space
>mfw I killed Lizzy, got the boots and totally didn't realize it

Attached: 20ere22wnw721.png (234x234, 109K)

Bullshit, making gil was piss easy.

1) I create a new character in Bastok and send him like 200k, then have him raise Norg fame with the zinc ore quest
2) I buy some sneak and invis pots and run him to Jeuno, in Jeuno buy a Kazham airpass for 150k and travel to Norg
3) In Norg I do the quest to obtain Utsusemi: Ichi and Tonko: Ichi, which takes like 2 minutes if you know the way
4) Sell said scrolls on AH for around 2 million gil
5) Rinse and repeat

The whole process takes about 2 hours once you get used to it so I usually made around 6 million a day.

Attached: Ichi_Quests.jpg (1218x819, 107K)

Yeah it's pretty much a completely different game but with the same game engine and assets. It's a weird sight.

How do they detect botting on Era?

Just free inventory space. Bad thing is from what I remember in Nasomi the delivery box doesn't work for some reason so you're forced to trade between your characters in-person kek. I hope he fixed that. Kind of unforgiveable given how long the server's been up (what, 10 years almost?)

>2mil for utsu and tonko
Fucking inflation year I remember that year. 13mil for Haubergeon lmao.

POST CUTE MITHRAS

I only have pics of mithras with dicks.

faggot

I loved this type of stuff. I liked how you can find your own ways to play the AH. This is me I was adamantly against farming(even though I did it sometimes) and liked finding niches like this
compulsory nostalgia tears

i love telling my group of friends that play xiv that mithra are better because they always fall for it and freak out

i miss this game xiv is ok but yoshi plays it safe with a lot of stuff and i don't know why

Why were female FFXI players so psychotic?

Fall for what?

>i don't know why
Did you miss the part where XIV was such a catastrophe it had to be redone?
Squeenix probably can't believe their luck when this game has risen from laughing stock to becoming a staple of the top 5 MMORPG list

Nasomi is the worst case of circlejerking I ever experienced. Good luck getting past Dunes unless you know the higherups on the server and lick their boots

The trick is to never tell anyone about your genius methods, even your best in-game friends. At one point I was completely in control of the Utsusemi market. Whenever I got on I made sure that all the scrolls on the AH were mine and if someone put one up for cheaper I bought it and put it back on at my price.

WRONG

ERA NOW HAS A 2 CHARACTER MAX ON FOR ANY SINGLE PERSON. No more quad or sextuple boxing.

I'm on era too. Solo bst. level cap makes soloing easier and great for 3 man groups (any job). its great because its in a pretty sweet spot as far as ffxi timeline goes. Although i dont like audorin(sp) being there. Low pop, but active devs and admins.

BTW, how do you setup windower shortcut to get on era again? i lost me setup info link!

>ince you basically have to uninstall and reinstall the game if you want to try each server.
Where does this bizarre misinformation come from? You can run retail and EVERY private server from a single installation. Not ever has it been neccesary to have multiple installations and certainly never neccesary to uninstall anything.

Look, I'm sorry you can't into computers but you need to stop encouraging other people to be stupid.

Isn't there some registry shit that get's mixed up? When does this issue ever happen anywhere else? Editing registry keys isn't something people just know randomly yeah, only major nerds and autists would even know about it.

>registry shit
You what m8? If you only have one installation the windows registry rubbish isn't even relevant. It's only needed for PlayOnline, so if you want to play retail you need to do a legit install once (and even then you could probably skip the expansions and just copy the files from a complete install) That is the only possible complication. Any and all private servers only need the game files and the right command-line (which Windower or Ashita handle for you) to pass to the pol replacement.
