What happened?
Helicopter boss
Capcom jews repurposed a failed project to feed off the success of DMC1. Also, Some executive at Capcom hates Kamiya's ass.
They gave the job to a literal who instead of Kamiya. Literal who created an unplayable piece of shit, so they brought Itsuno on to fix it. Itsuno got it into a releasable state, but the damage was too much to mend.
What would have happened if they delayed DMC2 by a year like they did with RE2 and started from 0 with only the assets they had?
Probably a better game than it is. They have to revamp the combat and lock on. Increase the startup on enemy attacks. Nerf guns a bit and rework the bosses. Remove the helicopter. It'll probably still be shit but better than it is now.
The whole game was basically made from scratch in three months. It's a fucking miracle it's even playable.
I’m still baffled that DMC2 only had 4 months of proper dev time (assuming the last 2 months Itsuno was director were strictly used for stuff like testing and getting discs and boxes ready to ship) and it’s somehow hardly, if ever, glitched out on me through my multiple playthroughs of it.
I’m also still baffled it came out the same year as Mega Man X7 and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, 2003 was a bad year.
It's good aside from not being difficult. Why do people hate it?
This Itsuno got on within the last 6 months IIRC
The only thing they had coded was Stinger
The absolutely worst flacid stinger in the series that is all of 2 steps
>It's good
it's an absolute dumpster fire
Imagine being the guy in charge of managing that shitshow when the suits from Capcom came in to see what you had going on
>It's good
It really isn't. Crimson Sea and other garbage action games are an entire tier above it in terms of quality.
user, have you fucking played it for even a minute? You can tell you’re in for shit as soon as you realise the guns levitate the enemies 5 feet in the air
Sword attacks are unbelievably laggy. Enemy AI is non-existant. Levels are enormous but completely empty. Environmental art is horrendous. Getting S Ranks is the biggest pain in the ass of all time. No taunt. Barely any dialogue or story. It's ugly. It's smelly. I don't like it.
The music is great and parts of it are pretty fun with Trish on DMD.
>fun with Trish on DMD
Well duh, she basically has the DMC1 Sparda noveset, doesn't she
Don't forget it had best main villain argosax
fuck mundus arkham and gay priest
It's fine desu, not really any worse than DMC1 or 3.
Level design is bad and combat being worse is an insult. It doesn't even feel good to steamroll enemies. I just want it to end.
5 months
>Sword attacks are unbelievably laggy
God, you just reminded me you can’t cancel attacks by rolling in 2, holy fuck. As someone who put it off to be the last game I played in the series, that pissed me off so much.
You're retarded.
Yeah, and when you Round Trip, you switch to Ifrit style. Plus, her guns shoot quicker and don't do that auto-lift shit unless you're in DT. She just feels a thousand times more responsive than Dante and Lucia.
Vergil was the last boss of DMC2, but yeah argosax was a good fight
> through my multiple playthroughs of it.
The fuck is wrong with you user?
>Vergil was the last boss of DMC2
What
I do yearly playthroughs of all the classic DMC games, that includes 2 sadly.
I’ve also done an all reploids saved run of Mega Man X7 and gotten all A ranks in Shadow The Hedgehog among other sins, I’m autistic and a glutton for shitty games
>What's so bad abo--
>literally does not come down
>can only shoot it for 10+ minutes
>you can fall down a great height and you have to climb back up with the copper shooting at you
how did the series not tank with this
The series tanked prior to the chopper fight, user
Itsuno refused to be remembered as the guy who made Devil May Cry 2. He insisted on making Devil May Cry 3 to save face.
Oh hell idk. It was....ok. I'm being very generous.
S-stinger!
Here's what happened.
Diversity hires ruined everything, like usual.
Okay, holy shit. DMC2 is one thing, that game sucks but is easy. Megaman X7, on the other hand, sucks so hard cause it's fucking cancerous to play. And NOW you're telling me that not only did you beat that game, but you 100%ed it? Jesus christ. You're fucking crazy.
I liked the aesthetic. A nice change from the abandoned castle / ruins from dmc1
If you consider just getting all the reploids for a trophy in the Legacy Collection 100%. My hunter rank never went above D, and I literally can’t even force myself to play through the game again on PC or Switch, so take that as what you will.
>imagine Trish getting pinned against a gray wall, that's the same color of her fucking boring bitch-ass character who imperonates moms becuase she's literally an unholy wretch with no dignity whatsoever, while at the same time the demon-whore who suckled Mundus' big red tri-balls and had so much piss-stained demon cum splurged all over her hair, it got dyed blond, is being fisted with pizza up her matrix-2000 black fetish pants ripped apart, so hard the term yeast infection gets a new meaning, and with her last whoreish, skanky, breaths she coughs up the crusty, hell-cum out her ps2-octagon mouth, leaving her dark soul unfilled, yet her ass stuffed to the brim
Did you use Rookie hunter mode?
Out of all the things I’ve seen through the DMC threads, I think I’ll miss this pasta most of all. Based and redorbed.
I liked it for what it was, as it was my first DMC.
I played the first game two months later after my brother brought 2 and I never looked back.
I wish. I made the mistake of going for as many trophies in one run as I could, which also meant getting all Alia’s calls, and maxing out Axl, since I knew I’d use him more than Zero. To say I didn’t have fun is to sell it short.
as bad as 2 is, i still appreciate what it did for the series
>first appearance of rebellion
>first time dante drives a motorcycle
>proto-trickster
and maybe a couple other things i've forgotten
oh and best default dante suit until 4 came out
Jesus christ dude, a challenge is great and all but you're fucking crazy
I’m aware. The fact I jumped into X7 right after slogging through X6 just made it worse. Had a blast with 5 and 8 in spite of their pretty tedious 100% conditions, so I can at least say there was something good to come out of it.
I own the legacy collection myself and couldn't bring myself to even approach the idea of a legitimate X7 run. Rookie Hunter mode was on by the end of the tutorial
I think it would be interesting to see the game modded to just have less knockback on attacks and a faster stinger with less knockback. The game would still suck, sure, but it would at least have functional melee combat then.
It’s a trip, I’ll say that much. For the little it matters, the shortened load times make it best way to play X7, but I don’t feel like there’s an actually good way to play X7 that doesn’t involve turning it off and playing literally any of the other 7 games in the collections instead.
i wish a dedicated modding team would crack into it and make a reborn version of it
>lower gun damage (at least dt gun damage)
>make boss' "fuck you get away from me" moves far less common
>flying bosses come in close more often and for longer
Crimson Sea. Fuck that's a deep cut.
Why are they refusing to release director's name?
Dunno but the execution of the last boss point blank is great
I really wanna find out more about 2’s development. I’ve seen a lot of people saying it was a Tomb Raider clone at first, hence why Lucia has so much prominence in the story, the environments are so open and there’s such an emphasis on guns. Never found a source, though. I just feel bad for the original director, can’t imagine how the dude feels even today, nearly 20 years later.
