More seriously I played a bit of this quasi pornographic monster taming game called puppet nightmares as a kid, I am about to go have another look at it, I remember it being pretty decent.
That's strange, it's asking me to select a difficulty level, maybe all my progress from years back was reset or they added difficulty levels later on.

Don't make monster stats higher over time. If something has to be unlockable, give me more abilities/equipment to choose from on each monster, not strict upgrades.
Avoid targeted unblockable abilities. Make the game perfect-able with any combination of monsters the game lets you take.
Provide incentives to play at close range.
Make premium currency obtainable by playing Tournament mode as well as by cash, like PTCGO does it.

It's like Pokémon Black and White Version 2 but Hard Mode is selectable from the start with no strings attached instead of having one code by cleared cartridge, and the online is alive again instead of Nintendo pulling the plug.
It should have a big focus on breeding and eugenics. The best monsters shouldn't be found in the wild, but you can't the very best monsters without finding the best rare stock in the wild.
