Well if you're talking about the franchise in general, then I'd say Namco's lack of care and advertising. But if you're being a retard and talking about the design of Klonoa 2, then nothing went wrong because Klonoa 2's design is objectively better and the only complaint anybody has, which isn't even really a complaint, is that he sort of resembles a Sonic character.

Literally far better use of color. He also has a far better profile. Brown, from the first design, doesn't work with either the red or the blue. All the colors in Klonoa 2's design either compliments contrasts.
