Her and Fei's backstories were pointlessly overwritten and took up too much screen time in the plot.

A remake would do wonders for Elly.
The original has fantastic story, but characters such as Elly had so little screen time compared to the mountain of events the game had. I'd really love to know more about her personally, and that of the other lives as well.
I'm not really into the genre, but Xenogears had a damn good love story that was barely developed.

Shoehorning reincarnations of those two into various eras of the world put too much emphasis on them as characters, to the point where half the cast wasn't even relevant to the central conflict in the story.

All they need to do for a remake is finish the second disc, make old-school anime cutscenes for the plot, and make the main combat similar to the Kislev fighting minigame but maybe more Armored Core-like. There, the perfect quintessential anime mecha game to shut up both /m/fags and Evafags alike

Half the cast wasn't relevant to the story because the second half was rushed, and they had to focus on the story which was fei/elly. The reincarnation wasn't shoehorned either, it was completely explained how it was possible within the context of the game.

They didn't need to write a good chunk of the game's story. The whole Zeboim arc was pointless and the lore behind the invention of nanomachines could have easily been more straightforward. Rico, Billy, Maria, and Chu Chu didn't need to exist as playable characters. All the reincarnation shit was stupid and its connection to the Zohar and the Wave Existence felt contrived and convoluted. All the lore about Deus's origin - including the intro - was dead weight because it was inconclusive as hell and led nowhere. You never even learn what happened to the human factions that fought in the war during which Deus was built. It's a total clusterfuck of a story and it's not fit for a 60 hour JRPG.

It's a pointlessly complicated mess. The hero of the story does not need to be the survivor of the Eldridge crash AND a famous biochemical engineer and doctor AND some church-sponsored artist AND a bumblefuck martial artist with a volatile split personality disorder brought about by childhood trauma. That's like six fucking characters in one - all of whom hog up screen time because they all need to be developed. Elly is equally messy with her backstory, what with her role as the Anti-Type, her history as Sophia, and having powers of the Mother that first spawned the first population of humans in the world. A 60 hour game doesn't need all this shit to have an interesting story. It's and effort that could be spent fleshing out other characters and events.

Those aren't the same factions, user. I'm talking about the once that existed prior to Deus' crash landing on the planet on which the game takes place. I'm talking about the civilization related to this page in Perfect Works.

first of all the eldridge was a colony ship, not a military ship, secondly they wanted to destroy the fucking thing on accout of it blowing up a fucking planet and them realizing they couldn't control it. They probably assumed it was destroyed because it basically was.

Well, I certainly didn't like the conclusion. I felt like it trivialized a good chunk of disc 1's world, narrative, and character development in favor of a bunch of plot dumps and flashbacks that happened in disc 2. The story dropped all sense of immersion for the world and setting and instead carried on as this bizarre character drama between Fei, Elly, Krelian, and Miang. Ultimately, Bart's retaking of Aveh didn't matter. Rico's life as a crime lord in Kislev didn't matter. Billy discovering the truth behind Ethos and reconciling with Jesse didn't matter. Maria's daddy issues didn't matter. And you know why? Cause most of the world's populace turned into Wels, then got ravaged by Deus' Seraphs, and is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland. So what's left in the story? The unresolved philosophical differences between Fei and Elly and Krelian and Miang, which is what the final boss and ending scene in Xenogears gave closure to. And to me, that's disappointing as hell.

Rico explored the racism that would be later expaned on by the wels. Just because these characters weren't the center of the story doesn't mean everything they did was for nothing. The world building was also expanded on in disc 2, showing why human skeletons showed up so suddently and without explanation, it explained how there were these advanced societys/technology in an otherwise medival setting, it showed the origins of the religons shown in the story, and I can go on.

Not that user, but these are fair grievances. I personally thought all these different narratives made the game more epic. It made the apocalypse more intense, rather than just a plot device. When the game ended, it felt like I had just lived multiple lives. That hit me in the feels like a 2 ton truck.

Takahashi and Soraya Saga had A LOT of ideas for the Xenogears world. That's obvious. We all know that Xenogears was just 1 slice of that narrative, and sure it has it's flaws, but overall I think it's a masterpiece. Had there been some guarantee from Squaresoft for a sequel, then Xenogears might have worked better being split into 2 games - the first focusing on the narratives about Bart, Rico, Maria, etc. and the second focusing on the Fei, Elly, Krellian, etc.
