Original CS is fun, but the difficulty is unbalanced to fuck, Normal can basically be done in your sleep for most of it, while hard just absurdly buffs all enemy stats and essentially forces you into using Digimon with pierce moves to get around the huge defense increases. I still made it to the very end of the game on Hard, but had to switch it back to normal because the final boss would get 3-4 turns for every 1 I got. Didn't really care for the story, but it's alright. Collecting and Digivolving Digimon is a lot of fun.

Haven't played HM yet, though, and it's coming in the mail tomorrow so I hope that fixes my issues I had with the original

Probably Cyber Sleuth if you're into RPGs and monster collecting. The older Digimon World games are a little bit rough to get into. I think a lot of people have more nostalgia for Digimon World 1, but I think Digimon World 2 and World 3 are probably much easier to get into because they're RPGs rather than a pet raising simulator. The Digimon World games on DS are also very solid.

If I had to choose 1 it would probably be Kudamon. Ankylomon is my all time favorite, but this evo line I made for Kudamon in pic related looks neat as fuck.

Well, from a marketing standpoint that is. Tamers had awful toy sales. Frontier was a desperate attempt to boost them, which didn't work.

Savers and Xros Wars didn't either, which is why they target older audiences now.

The problem with tamers is that although toei had an amazing writer (Chiaki J Konaka) they did a shit ton of corporate meddling to make their products sell

Toei demanded to him that the story HAD to include the Digimon TCG in some way, and that the MC had to design his own digimon (at the time they were having contests in japan for kids to design their own digimon, the winner would have their OC in the game/anime)
Had to include a character from the Wonder swan games
Had to take the kids to the digiworld at some point
Had to include an OC digimon made from the design your own digimon contest
Had to make said digimon partner with the kid of one of the TV station's boss
and to top it all, he could not kill any one of the main cast

How Konaka managed to write a decent story with so many nannies shows how good at his craft he is

Next Order is basically an upgraded Digimon World 1. I haven't played too much of it because I honestly haven't had as much time as I used to, but I think you'll have a good time with it. But again, like World 1, you have to be a bit patient with it I think because of the pet raising mechanics. That's just me, though.

Also I recommend Digital Card Battle as a very different, but honestly really fun experience.

Cyberdramon was fanmade. Ryo was from the Wonderswan games. Dunno about that last one, though.
