Why are looter shooters such a mess?

Why are looter shooters such a mess?
Both of these have been colossal failures. Destiny 2 hasn't been much better.

Warframe is fine. It is a mess, but it's a different kind of mess so the game itself still is enjoyable.

I've been enjoying the shit out of Destiny 2.
I'm not gonna bother with the games in your pic tho.

>warframe
>enjoyable

Because the focus on looting as their sole reason for playing. Then they nerf everything to shit because they want their game to last longer, like dilluting juice with water. Also, most devs have a superiority complex and you're gonna play the way they tell you to, no balance breaking. So when the best of the best is brought down for balance reason, everything worse then it becomes shit.
And since converting a shooter to a looter is piss easy from dev's perspective you get "looters" like anthem with just a number & rarity change.
And they all try a simplify & market a stats-based genre to casuals. And as we all know it, what casuals love are statistic and math, that's why eve online and aurora are the most popular games ever.

At least war frame is free, it can be a mess if it wants. But fuck paying $60 for either Anthem or 76.

Warframe's not a looter shooter tho.

Don't call them looter shooters, it's too vague and Fallout 76 barely fits in that catagory.

They are ARPG themeparks. A combination of all the most addicting aspects of gaming created by marketers and psychologists. The problem is it's obvious they're trying to get us hooked and the end game is never fun enough.

But you shoot and loot things.

What's it called when you play the same level over and over trying to get a specific crafting resource?
Answer: Farming loot

You shoot things, farm materials and build things. You don't loot.

It's just called farming.

why would you waste time on a game that isn't addicting?

the correct term is "shlooter".

But you farm both materials AND loot in Warframe.

fuck GaaS

Tarkov is the only Shooter doing looting right

Real talk is Destiny 2 any good yet? I haven't followed it at all but I'm in the mood for a loot-driven game and from what I've seen it seems to play fairly well.

I played at launch and it was pretty fun. But the Raids got a bit repetitive. I'm also pretty sure you need to invest in all the DLC to be able to get much out of the game. I'm not too sure about that, I do remember parts being locked off from me once the first DLC came out though.

I'm talking about slot machine style triggers.
They way they give out small bits of loot every minute to hold your attention. Illusions of progress. Reminders that there is a leader board and other players are better then you. Loot chests...

It's no longer just about gameplay, it's about psychological tactics.

How could someone like Randy do it decently but no one else can seem to repeat it? What's the secret?

It was free awhile ago for everything before taken king I think and I got it then. It feels good to shoot and shit and the loot is ok for the first few hours but it loses it's hold on you really quickly. I enjoyed getting new skins for my ship though.
Keep in mind before you go in that the story is almost offensively bad and it's best to completely ignore it and focus only on your new guns.

Activision gave up on the whole IP and its 10-years plan for a reason, you know.

Borderlands really isn't that good BUT it's not an online only DLC and loot chest riddled money sink like the others.

>What's the secret?
BADASS

afaik no gun drops from a mussion in entirety, maybe excluding story missions, but that was sent by mail. Rewards for a mission is not "looting"
And BPs and parts are crafting materials too, unusable by themselves. Sure, they're very specific mats, but mats nontheless. Some can even be used to multiple things (parts for chroma).
Mods are the only loot in wf and it's mostly just one-time collecting than looting. Calling wf a looter shooter because of the mods is like calling it an RPG (in a story sense) because you have like 5 moments where you can pick your response in the game

How is Tarkov these days? Probably haven't played in a year

That's why I said decently. Good is subjective, but there are plenty of people who played and enjoyed them. Even Borderlands 2 has a somewhat healthy community still despite being over 6 years old. Might still be the closest thing to a Diablo shooter that we'll get.

Just like The Taken King in D1, Forsaken fixed the game.
