I think the biggest problem VR suffers from is how fucking hardware intense it HAS to be to be playable. All of the emphasis is on the hardware, and at this stage devs are still only really showing off what it can do rather than actually doing something with it.

When I was at uni, a friend had gotten a VR headset (Oculus Rift? Doesn't matter) and the handthings, and my friend circle and I had a blast playing it. But every game was the same thing, effectively:
>Stand in one spot, looking around a room and interacting with that room, before being moved to the next room

This isn't bad, mind you, but it feels like a series of glorified tech-demos rather than a full-fledged game. Things like VR Minecraft or VR Skyrim are steps in the right direction, but not quite what I'm getting at. No one, from what I've seen and I could very well be ignorant and missing something, seems to have actually taken the idea of VR and put it into a game that truly makes use of VR while at the same time being more than just a demonstration of VR.

When VR first came out, people were terrified of incorporating locomotion into games because of motion sickness. It turns out, between smooth motion and teleportation for lightweights, it really isn't an issue, and even if you can't handle smooth locomotion (moving with an analog stick normally, but without jarring animations) at first, it doesn't take long to be able to do it. But, the initial "OH MY GOD IF YOU MAKE A VR GAME WITH MOVEMENT IT'LL BE UNPLAYABLE" really damaged the kind of games that were developed, and people's perceptions of the platform.

This is one of those funny things that faggots say. Yes vr has a lot of bad games, but it also has several good ones, enough to justify the price? Idk but between the community and the games that are there like pavlov I can easily say that it's at least keeping pace with most consoles. Games like H3VR, Pavlov, Killing floor incursion, X, Elite dangerous, raw data, sairento, Mortal blitz, trickster, Blade and sorcery, thrill of the fight, neon retro arcade, gorn, helllblade all provide hours of entertainment. The one difference between vr and consoles is vr is like the days of middle school where you had to take chances, go out and do research to find those gems that come out, and there are at least 1-2 games that come out each month that are really fun experiences.

The problem with VR is that the headset had extreme potential to be used in real video games. It could have been an alternative to your TV/monitor, where you could experience the world firsthand in the latest hot games.

Instead, the retard devs focused way too much of their resources on bullshit such as the two controllers, walking around irl in circles, doing manual reloading motions with the controller etc which turned it into gimmick central, almost like a Wii 2.0

Instead of banking on VR being an entirely separate platform, which it does have merit as, Oculus and Valve should have invested more into making traditional games playable on HMDs, whether that's through hacking in support or making it easy to include support. Even having games have stereo 3D support for play on a virtual screen would be an improvement. Even if the future is vr made games, the VR crowd decided to eschew backwards compatibility to a large degree, which was a huge mistake.

If you just want to exist/look around in the game world, that's usually possible, although you will often notice that the scale of shit is way off, again because of flatscreen trickery.

First person shooters gain the most benefit by far at the moment. Being able to aim in a shooter is a huge upgrade and the VR doesn't cause any problematic side effects to deal with. Some controllers such as the rift controllers only map a couple of your fingers, moving ALL of you fingers (including your pinky!) is actually really cool and really exciting, and unless you have tried VR, you wouldn't understand.

I basically got a VR headset for fapping, but honestly, it's such a hassle that I never use it anymore. In order to use it, I've got to wash my face first (because washing the headset is super difficult, it's easier to just wash my face), and then plug it in. Then I've got to put a bottle inside the headset to trick it into thinking I've got it on my head, so that it will stay on. I need to let it sit for a while, usually about 10 mins, to warm up. If I don't do this it just fogs up like crazy.

Then, I've got to set up my fapping station. Normally it's no big deal, but with a headset on I can't see anything, so I've got to clear my desk, set up my pillows and my fleshlight, get my lube, get everything set up.

Then, after about 15 mins of prep, I'm ready, except doing all that didn't get me in the mood, so now I've got to get in the mood again. Then I can fap.

I mean, it's pretty fucking good when you're willing to do all that work, but then afterwards I've got to put everythign away. The whole process is like 50 mins to get a good 20 min fap in. Whereas if I just don't bother with the headset I just start fapping in like 1 min, cum in like 10-15, so I'm done fapping and cleaning up in under 20 mins.

So, yeah, I just find it's too much to set aside an hour to fap now. I used to do it more when I was younger but now I have responsibilities and spending an hour fapping every day is just too much time.

It could easily be used to simply maximize the FOV in 3rd person games as if you were really sitting on a cloud behind your character and it would be great.
Some racing game on PS4 did that to great effect.
I don't know why not everyone, not getting sick from it, would want that in their games and it's an easy non gimmicky way to ease people and developers into VR gaming.
