Replayed it last month. Loved it the first time; was bored during the second go-around.

I still enjoyed the story and music, but in terms of gameplay, I'd rather replay any of Platinum's other action games. More than anything, this game had an actual budget, yet Yoko Taro still insisted on his terrible game design philosophy of playing through multiple times for the true ending. Not as bad as the Drakengard games or the first Nier, and thank Christ you dont need to collect every weapon, but still a major pacing issue in this one.

The hacking part is the biggest downer for me. At first it was cool but then it just feels like it's interrupting the game.

automata is the most sterile lukewarm title by yokotaro so of course it will be commended the most.

You go through the same beats in the same order. Yes, certain sections are played from 9S' perspective, which most of the time involves the basic hacking segments. I love shmups, and I appreciate the director's insistence on including shooting elements in this series, but hacking is so rudimentary and devoid of interesting scenarios that it gets old within the first section of the 9S route.

I loved hacking throughout the whole game, and consider it to bring a much needed spice on the generic hack & slashing.
His route was also way more interesting, and obviously it leads to the C route.

The top-down shmup segments that aren't hacking are fantastic, if not too easy because every single bullet can be eaten. But hacking has no interesting movement or shooting mechanics, and relies on primitive puzzle solving to differentiate between the different stages. Storyline wise it provides some of the more memorable twists, but I'd rather a single route that combined his and 2B's story to cut out the revisits and repeated boss fights.

This game is so good that I literally couldn't care less about what other people say or think about it. I enjoyed it so much that I don't give a fuck about it.

I loved the game but I have to agree with on hacking. It needed something extra to spruce up those gameplay segments. Too few variations. Simple gameplay can be done well - this was not one of those times. Works but... doesn't do more than work.

Going back to that user's 1s post he wasn't even that booty-bothered.
Was only 2nd playthrough it stood out for them.

I played it for the first time last month, my biggest gripe with it is how boring the world was, I was expecting interesting locations and gorgeous vistas but in the end everything apart from the amusement park was super bland and repetitive. I still had fun with it but wasn't really amused, it's a good game but not even close to being one of the best,
