What went so horribly wrong?
What went so horribly wrong?
Nothing, it was a good game.
>make a Final Fantasy game without the fantasy aesthetics
that's why
Instead of focusing on story they focused on the open world meme.
It's a good game but it didn't feel like a final fantasy to me. Auto attack was kind of lame though, I found myself pressing the button instead.
Tabata
It's not on Switch.
>could have had DMC-like combat in FF universe
>instead its KH but worse
TABATAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>It's not on Switch.
you got the Pocket Edition HD of FFXV which is just the main game except:
no open world
a better combat system
worse graphics
no DLC content
1. Severely unoptimized and eats/melts graphics cards
2. DLC scrapped
3. Versus 13 grimdark setting is gone, instead replaced with shitty camping friends theme. Also most of the royal city is/was cut. Timeskip bullshit story.
4. Aranea, Cor and Iris aren't permanent party members nor can they be switched in or out replacing the main cast. The party system is absolutely gimped and terrible.
5. Magic is just craftable items
>intentionally making the combat shit because "lmao im old"
>story divided up amongst several pieces of media
>wide open world with depth of a puddle
>ending was only like 20% done when shipped
>tons of dlc bait
>main cast and monsters are the only things that looks like it was developed by square, everything else sticks out like a sore thumb
>the couple of big spectacle events in the game have the worst fucking gameplay
>secrets are shit even if pitioss is interesting because of how much its a struggle vs controls
>magic is consumables that do massive aoe and friendly fire unless you give up an equipment slot
>it was an idea stolen from another more talented man and contorted into a pile of crap
I still enjoyed it a bit but its right up there alongside FF8 with its flawed experience
>>main cast and monsters are the only things that looks like it was developed by square, everything else sticks out like a sore thumb
You’d be surprised that some of the monsters/bosses are actually stock 3D models bought from a Taiwanese 3D model shop.
It needed to expand more in-game rather than in the side content. It's all well and good if you want to expand the lore, but don't make an OVA, a novel, and several other things a requirement just to understand why you're doing what you're doing in the main story. Put that in the game, let the side content expand on minor things that don't matter to the long run of the game, and only pander to the people who read or viewed those things by mentioning names or something, not by tying plot points to them.
I honestly didn't mind exploring and the dungeons were all my favorite bits alongside bantering with the crew, but there was definitely some repetition and the fact that they took away the unique events like the Chocobo Festival and the Assassin's Festival from the game because they were time limited is idiotic since it's unique content.
So is it worth it if you've already played the original? I thought the style was a bit silly but it seemed like it could be fun and getting to listen to the gang banter with each other would be nice. Or is it one of those cases where you should wait for a sale?
My only gripe is that they did nothing to improve the gameplay while padding in more content.
It's nice that there's at least 200-250 hours worth of content but if the gameplay is boring, why bother?
Nothing, you're just a moron.
someone's mad
You can tell with Comrades and some of the newer enemies that they at least tried to add some difficulty to the combat, specifically in things like Bahamut's fight, Ifrit's fight, the Eroder (Though she's really easy), the DLC content, and so on. You actually have to dodge them, block attacks, and plan some things out, but you still feel like the gameplay is too stiff and it holds your hand way too much with how it warps you to everything. They needed to give the player more freedom in how they could fight, you just feel like you never have total control of your Comrades Avatar or Noct, it's like you can move and attack with them but you're cemented in what you do.
They obviously have something they can improve upon here, let's just hope they do that instead of sticking to their ways.
>let's just hope they do that instead of sticking to their ways.
Ardyn DLC is their last one so don't expect much
I meant more for future games since they invested so much into Luminous and FFXV in general. I can't see them pulling away from all of this after all the work they did. It would be nice if they would opt for turn-based but that seems like it's more for side games than mainlines now.
It's heart was in the right place but it would have needed more actual development time, a higher budget and a clearer vision. I don't think it's bad but... man, had it been handled better it could have been Japanese Witcher 3.
At least it's not Metal Gear Solid V.
good post
MGSV has the opposite problems.
Great gameplay but no fucking content
I think if they fixed the magic, added more skills to the different weapons, and let you switch characters it would have been a great game.
A lot.
>So is it worth it if you've already played the original?
No clue, $30 felt way too much for my tastes.
you can switch characters
Tetsuya Nomura.
From the get go I mean
You can during battles
How can a guy not involved with the final product be at fault?
>and let you switch characters
I think this was added in a free update but it's like 40 AP to unlock the ability
but not when the game first came out
