I think there's an element of that, but believe it or not, traditional 2D animation is way harder to animate than 3D. Designing a rig you can animate and move over and over again is easy, hand-drawing or even cheating and using tweening 500,000 frames of animation takes entire teams a lot of hard work... all for a result that most of the world says looks "worse" than 3D models. It's sad - I love 2D animation, but I think it is dying out in the West.

I'm hardly an anime fan, but I deeply appreciate how in Japan, 2D is as strong as ever, it seems, and the tradition of it is still standing up.

I kinda dig Mr. Mime going for the creepy clown thing, but I know not everyone's gonna like it. I do gotta say though, these live-action disney remakes are getting out of hand. I sat through that fucking Beauty and the Beast remake and I shit you not, it was just the same general movie, but somehow worse in just about every aspect.

Roger Rabbit was insanely expensive and made with talented artists and had a lot of techniques like bumping the lamp involved. It had physical animatronics that mimiced what the animations would do, because the animations would interact physically with the world and actors.

The difference with Detective Pikachu is that even if a lot of the designs are pretty off, they still keep the core idea behind each Pokemon pretty intact. Sonic was never designed to translate into 3D in the first place since he's got "Mickey Mouse Syndrome" with things in his design that just flat-out don't work outside of 2D.

How do they manage to fuck up every single design with disgusting hair textures, and yet manage somehow to convince people that it looks good? As an animator student myself I loved spiderverse due to the blending of different artstyles and animation, using 2D methods on 3D models and the visual harmony everything had in the movie

All animation did was got worse and use vector based tweenshit animation to get by, so of course 3D is getting more favored. If Disney animation became mainstream years ago, 2D animation wouldn't have died. But the states don't care about animation to Disney level so they never bothered and half assed it until it died in the states.

Hand drawn animation as a discipline is dying out because drawing as a discipline is dying out. Learning to draw is the single most important part of art education, across all disciplines. Even artists like photographers and sculptors need to learn to drawn.

I'd say SMB3 was better than World. It had better level design, more creative worlds, better power ups, better music though SMW's castle theme is better than anything in 3, a better aesthetic, and was more challenging. SMW's secret exits were cool but it doesn't really change the level design from being awfully bland.
