Honestly the IT is pretty mature for their age, not as mature as the P3 cast except for maybe Naoto but still introspective and thoughtful and (most of the time) considerate of the feelings of others which is more than you can say for most high schoolers. Honestly one of the best things about MegaTen as a whole is how you can jump in wherever you want and enjoy the game as it is. Even for numbered entries like Persona and mainline SMT, you don’t necessarily need to play them in chronological order to enjoy them. There’s a few exceptions here and there, like the Persona 2 duology.

Anyways I feel he's a big dissapointment as a villain. The Killer was hyped up to be some form of mastermind who killed people without leaving trace, when in fact his first "kill" was done by accident, his second "kill" was a passionate crime, and he didn't even killed people himself, he just threw them into the TV and they appeared dead later. All he did afterwards is trick Namatame into believing the should throw people into TVs and then sat back.

Adachi was the grand definition of mediocrity, down to his short career as a murderer.

I love Adachi simply for the fact that he's shown to be a decent dude, it's just that having been given power he abuses it because his fucked up brain thinks it's justice.
You can tell after he gets arrested etc. how dejected he is and how he truly seems to realize he fucked up.
TL;DR he has depression/is mentally ill but instead of receiving help he receives an enabler for his problems that just makes them worse
