Devil Survivor (Though you can get a sorta happy ending if you follow based Atsuro's advice). The sequel just full on embraces it.

I watched and finished Eva the other day, haven't watched the movies or anything else. It kinda fucked me up for half the day, my first feeling after finishing it was kind of depressing the more I thought of the implications. I didn't really care that much about the surface plot or even the characters really, I maybe understood 20% of what was going on in terms of the underlying message and themes. I feel like most people resonate with the whole hedgehog dilemma thing, but it really hit me when it basically justifies human extinction as-is for the sake of painlessness in the world, at least that's how I took it. It was fucked when it showed what could have been if everyone had their deep seated problems vanish, it was like the reverse of It's A Wonderful Life. So was the last part of the last episode a cop out or Kenji's consciousness in a state of self hypnotic therapy or was it molding into the human instrumentality project? I looked up a video on it afterwards and maybe it's supposed to be open ended.

Looks like a crucified Scottish hamster to me
