I have a soft spot for the DDS games, but SMT IV has probably stuck with me as probably my favorite of the SMT games despite its flaws.

Devil Survivor Overclocked has great routes and story, deep and challenging strategy beyond (buffing/debuffing), and the same fusion/skill management systems that typify SMT.
Strange Journey Redux is more accessible that Strange Journey, and either represent the best dungeon crawling in the series.

3-5 Are all super good. 1 and the P2 games have amazing stories but the gameplay is a bit of a slog, I'm not sure if that's the case for ES but IS is just, painful on gameplay.

Bitch all you want about gameplay or dungeon design, the setting is top-notch

What? Gameplay and dungeon crawling in SJ are the good part.
The one-dimensional characters, boring visuals and awful repetitive music are the bad aspects of that game.

Nocturne from a gameplay standpoint, though I haven't played 4 or 4:A. DDS and Raidou are both good too, Soul Hackers is decent

Huh, didn't know about those songs. Combined with Elizabeth's Sumaru City theater girl outfit, I'm not sure how I feel about them. They're probably intended to be nice references for people who played 1 and 2 but I just see them as "this is all you get, don't even think of asking for Maya and Tatsuya to be in this game"
