ITT: 5/10 Games

Post some games that are mediocre but worth a rental or buying for cheap

Pros:
>Great presentation and music
>Fun, unique battle system

Cons:
>Story is cliche after cliche
>Game railroads you onto a single path you can't even backtrack through after a certain point
>Only one sidequest and one optional dungeon
>One of your party members is the final boss

Eternal Sonata is no worse than a 7/10. Mayb be an 8/10 for a JRPG with how low the standards are. But as a game, 7/10 is the proper ballpark.

We don't need your bullshit, we can see that in any random JRPG thread.

No bullshit here.
If you want a decent story and atmosphere with fun characters, you get that
If you want an ARPG or turn based RPG, you don't get that
If you want intricate customization and exploring, you don't get that

The game is not perfect by any means but you have to be honest about what you're looking for and what it has to offer. It at least gives more interactivity in combat than a typical JRPG.

I loved it but I didn't finish it.

It's 8/10 because the combat is actually challenging.

>a rental
I'll just rev up my time machine then
Do rental shops even exist anymore?

How can it be only a 5/10 if those two points in your pros section are true?

Cause you have to suffer through 20+ hours of, "oh we have to stop the cliche evil king. Also there's a weird love triangle" to get to the gameplay. The whole idea of it being a dream of Chopin's is treated like an afterthought and only relevant in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Granted I'm basing this off the 360 version. I've heard the the updated ps3 version has a slightly better plot.

You forgot
>Character's dying monologue is an hour long.

Sounds like every JRPG ever made, surely an average plot and an above average gameplay system doesn't equate to an average game, if 5/10 even truly represents the average.

ok but why Chopin?

Fun with your friends

Never forget.

I was playing it a few months ago on PS3 and it's VERY clear it's his dream right from the get go, it gets mentioned a LOT.

artist's fever dream that has a definite ending

I mean, the gameplay is fun but even it gets a bit repetitive. When echos come into play, it becomes more of a button-masher.

The only strategic element to it I ever found was using Viola's arrows at a distance for higher damage.

you aren't wrong but nobody claimed it's a game you can replay

this

END FUCKING THREAD
OP IS SHIT AT THIS!

Which is why it's so disappointing. The environments are beautiful but you have absolutely no reason to explore them, through backtracking or NG+

Yes, it is disappointing, but that's the nature of JRPGs. You play them once when you're young, enjoy them, then grow up and reflect on all their flaws.
As it turns out, Eternal Sonata's is that its gameplay tried to carry itself on one central gimmick alone. But that gimmick, despite being underdeveloped, is enough to sustain at least half a playthrough of refreshing bliss.

>5/10
I made a goal of finishing all games my younger self never could but this game, this fucking game i just cant, the world and characters are boring, the story is retarded and i didnt find it very fun.
If i remember correctly it looked nice and the combat was pretty decent but everything else was a fucking drag, i dropped the game after recruiting the elf-whatever's sister, i have no idea if it gets any better after that but i doubt it.
At best its a 3/10 for me

Are you aware that a 5/10 is considered perfectly average? Games aren't rated by the academic grading system. Eternal Sonata isn't 7/10 tier, let alone 8/10. It's perfectly average.

Red Box and Gamefly I think.

you have no concept of video games if you think eternal sonata is 5/10

Ocarina of Time

>Games aren't rated by the academic grading system.
They actually are. That's how everyone but you sees them.

I have plenty. It's 5/10.

Video games has 7 as a baseline. Anything below is a bad rating. It's shitty but that's how it is.

It's weird the 360 went through a 3 or 4 year span of getting JRPGs like Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant, Magnacarta 2, FF13 etc. and the only really good one was Lost Odyssey.

I just wanted Eternal Sonata to be popular so porn of Polka would exist

I got neither...

Still have my Polka faceplate on my Xbox 360 to this day

no something like bullet witch is 5-10, a high budget jrpg is 7/10 at the lowest blue dragon would be like 5/10 too maybe 6/10.

it depends on why you play games which you pick

I cant speak about the rest but i always felt blue dragon was a huge case of wasted potential.

Bullet Witch was not a fucking 5/10 that shit was a 3 at best. If Vampire Rain had not been made it would have been the worst game of the generation

I said the exact same thing as I played it, I think I maybe put 5 or 6 hours into it before I tapped out. The whole "poo" monster thing was stupid.

You mean the shit snakes? it was their attempt at forcing the semi-mascot common enemy meme and yeah the joke doesnt land they recolored the fuckers and even gave them an optional boss too

Very simple gameplay. Easy to get into, smooth progression.

Nothing terribly great about it though.

Till this day I have not seen a more immersive tactical grid based PS3 game

>MC is the final boss
cool shit, solid 3/5 game

You rate this about resonance of fate?

Hunted: Demon's Forge

One of the most average games of last gen. The co-op is playable I guess but it's just so generic fantasy setting.

The problem is that you run the risk of leveling him up and leaving the rest of your party underleveled for the encounter.

Sure, it's slim with 9 playable characters, but still.

Yes it's extremely difficult even the first battle can be a hurdle if you don't know what your doing

Yeah, just die already.

This. I never finish it, but the indication was that was always a dream world which would mean a sort of bad ending in the end with Chopin as an enemy. I remember some cutscenes pointing the dream thing whenever Chopin music happened and how Chopin would sometimes talk to the umbrella girl and speak about that

Actually eternal sonata owns

Eternal Sonata is easily a 7.5. the combat and characters are great

Yep those are the ones I mean, and it sounds like I dropped it at a good time.

Truly such a waste of talent on this game. One of the best game writers with arguably the best composer in the industry and the dude who designed Dragon Ball and the Chrono Trigger characters. And this is what got produced.

Pros
>gameplay is fast and engaging
>story is intruguing
>alignments are an interesting mechanic
>one of the best video game soundtracks ever
Cons
>game is piss easy after Mesusa
>story is stupid and inconsistent when you think about it
>game is clearly biased towards Neutral
>the overworld is a complete mess
>demon redesings are almost all shit

Sonic Forces

moooooooooooooooooooot

You mean, the archer girl is great

Fuck I miss playing Eternal Sonata with friends. Don't remember much of the story except for some edgy boy who didn't like his clothes getting wet stomping us in a battle.

I was the girl with the Bow that could zoom in and did shit tons of damage.

2 of my pals would fight over who got to play Frederic and would always race to the console. They'd either get physical and shove or be more subtle like switching the controllers cables when one is distracted or bring their own 360 and place it beside ours and fill it with controllers and tangle them all up to trick each other.

I wasted all my healing items on that fight cause I didn't pick up that it was supposed to be unwinnable.

I've never seen a game with so much fucking green. It's extremely relaxing and, dare I say, comfy. Except for the whole death stuff.

Did anyone play Infinite Undiscovery

I just want to know I wasn't the only one who was robbed

Any of these honestly
>The entire Gothic series
> The Witcher 3
> The Last Of Us
> Final Fantasy VII
> Planescape Torment
> Doom (1993)
> Fallout: New Vegas
> Deus Ex (2000)
>Street fighter (all of them)
>DBF
>Daggerfall

I heard good things about this game but everything about Eternal Sonata was extremely forgettable for me while playing. I'd go with something like a Tales game any day

This,its at least an 8.

>5/10 games
Victor Vran
It's okay.

The OST m8

Don't @ me

Nobody would play this game if it wasn't Danganronpa.

Attached: 35710.jpg (590x336, 35K)

That game was easily 7/10 AT THE LEAST. I'd give it a damn 8.5/10 honestly.

Pros
>Fun and easy to mash through
>Good lesbian fanservice
>Good story towards the end
>Likeable characters and good villains

Cons
>Subpar, weightless combat
>Bad graphics for its generation
>Camera and run animations are poorly programmed

Where the fuck is 3 Gust

Combat was neat, and the story was interesting up to a point.

Tales of Vesperia too. It was better than Lost Odyssey, yeah it was ported to PS3 a year later, but so was Eternal Sonata, and you mentioned that, and we didn't even get PS3 Vesperia until this year.

I can't believe it got ported to the Switch honestly.

>What games do we need to fatten up the Switch's library
>Why, Nights of Azure 2, of course.
>Goddammit Yoshimitsu, you are a genius!

Attached: Valderossa Nights-of-Azure.jpg (600x824, 294K)

Eternal Sonata is 8/10, one of the better JRPG's out there, but this is just mine opinion. I didn't enjoyed battle system, because at some point I was using same tactics over and over again on AI and destroying them.

>bring this to a friends house
>we manage to get some enjoyment out of the multiplayer option

So what exactly made it an 8 if not the battle system?

Falsetto is best girl

Attached: Eternal Sonata - Falsetto.png (1024x768, 898K)

Gameplay is dogshit tho

Weird way to spell Viola.

I really did enjoyed music, designs. I knew and enjoyed a bit about Chopin's history, so story in the game was already interesting to me. Battle system was fine, but like I said... at some point I was using same attacks in every fight destroying all of the enemies. It was got me bored after a while, and back then I was young kid.

I thought it was outright stated that this was the hallucination he was having before his death

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

Really?? I thought eternal sonata was pretty fucking good.

Does Eternal sonata have good takes on Chopin's songd or is it just generic JRPG music?

It's actually what got me into Chopin's music as a kid. Loved Raindrops in one of the early cutscenes.

As far as I can tell, the only incorporation of Chopin's music are during the in-between chapter stills about the irl Chopin's life and a version of the Revolutionary Etude used for the final battle.

The music is really good though. Fully orchestrated and has a lot more flourish than generic JRPG music.

More like the only good girl.
Along with Viola.

>Falsetto is the best girl so that's why the remove her for most of the game.

32 chaining on one character was so unbalanced.

They were dumb and cheesy but I really liked all the quotes the characters would say before a special attack.

>By lightning and thunder will you be thrown. By wind will you be scattered. Heaven and Earth. HOWLING THUNDER!

The PS3 version has a bunch of small, but really effective changes that improve the game a whole lot, even from just a story or gameplay standpoint

I'm amazed that a game with so many charming features and good points (particularly music, gameplay, certain story beats like the magic afterlife town) also has so many bafflingly bad decisions (let's split the party for a third of the game, and put literally all the likable characters in one group, and Chopin+ a bunch of useless fucks in the other)

>"If you strike a stone, rocks are scattered. If you strike a person, the soul is scattered. Death to both!"

This game has some perfect chuuni quotes.

I just remember that there wasn't a whole lot of depth to the combat?

it really did

Save for Polka and Claves. Polka at least had that harsh, "STAY OUT OF MY WAY!" but all of Claves' were terrible.

X4 after the 2.0 patch feels like a solid 5/10 now.

Whenever someone tells me how much they like Dark Souls I immediately suspect them of lying—but I totally understand why they would. Dark Souls is a gaming phenomenon that is also so entwined in that 'git gud' attitude that people use as the litmus test to measure how much of a True Gamer you are, and I think there are loads of people out there who pretend to worship every bit of it because they feel like they have to. And I get why: I've witnessed the bloodbath firsthand when someone admits to not liking Dark Souls or thinking that it's overrated—suddenly, people are climbing out of every nook and cranny to tear that person to bits and tell them why they're objectively wrong. Witnessing that, I think people do the smart thing and decide to pretend to enjoy Dark Souls lest the obnoxious True Gamers who Got Gud find out and, like the KGB, drag them kicking and screaming into the shadows where we'll never hear from them again. Sometimes it's just easier to nod along and say Dark Souls is cool.

WTF...not even remotely passable as a trap. Out of curiosity I watched one of his reviews and his voice constantly cracked because he was trying so hard to sound like a woman.
