Imho this generation has been pretty awful, I was a true idort last gen (apart from wiiu) and every month there was really something cool coming out. This gen on console exclusives has just big gaps of nothing interlaced with shitty cashgrabs especially on switch (I guess the ps4 is on its last legs and we wont see anything worthwhile as they are saving it for the next gen)...

Because you are a low-IQ sperg. If you spent money on components with LED lights, or clickety keyboards, or a case with windows, or liquid cooling, you overspent and wasted money and didn't maximize your bang for your buck. You could have built yourself a beast that gets at or near 60 fps at 4k in just about every game out there for about $250 less than you spent.
PC has some of the best games out there and plenty of them are free. It also has near unlimited backwards compatibilty and has emulation for the majority of consoles and soon to be PS3. Also the only way to experience good VR is on PC and VR is one of the coolest experiences in gaming right now.
Thing is, now you can experience the entire history of PC gaming at high resolutions/graphics settings. Even console games will usually run at higher settings/frames than a console will, and you can even emulate pretty much every console. Not to mention mods, multi-monitor support, keyboard+mouse, multiple places to get games instead of being stuck with one storefront(PSN, XBL store, Switch whatever), USB ports out the wazoo for near-endless peripherals(fans, Harddrives and even a controller if you want), multi-tasking(playing music or videos during games/downtime) and a host of other things. You can even use a different operating system to run your PC differently. If you look at it that way, you have WAY more features with a PC, and at some point, if you build a decent PC, you won't have to upgrade for a while and can survive a console cycle and a half without touching a single component.

More obtainable than 4k, with most setups. I'd say 1440p/144hz is the best of both worlds because it looks noticeably better, but you can get the FPS that helps out when aiming, plus it'll make the 1440p look and feel even better.

I actually ended up selling mine once I saw that shitty moviegames was all it was going to get. I was at least waiting for a demon's souls remaster at least but there wasn't even that. It's amazing how obsolete consoles have become because they barely get any exclusives at all. And if you just happen to not fit in the "I want to just turn my brain off" netflix crowd playing overhyped AAA trash, you get fuckall to play. Now compare this to the ps2 era when pretty much everything was an exclusive and you'd fucking swim in them not even knowing what to play first. There's also the fact that consoles don't even have the assurance that games are gonna come out actually finished and properly polished anymore, it's all about 20gb day one patches, games so fucking shitty it bricks the fucking console, tons of missing features on release, extremely poor performance and railroaded handholdy design as far as the eye can see.

I have a 3440x1440 120hz g-sync monitor (Dell AW3418DW) and playing games on this thing is fucking godly. The smoothness is incredible and the ultrawide format makes for such an immersive experience.

I'm currently playing divinity original sin 2, having just beaten the first one (before playing REmake 2), in between Enderal sessions since it just came out on steam. I also play age of empires 2 HD a fuckton because it's a timeless classic. In fact, strategy games as a whole on this thing are incredible. I also just bought the season pass for dark souls 3 last sale and I'll jump straight into it once I beat original sin 2.

That's a shame. I had the opposite experience. I grew up a 'tendie, my favorite console was the n64. When rare split from Nintendo for microsoft and I was disappointed by the game cube I thought I was done with gaming. I got a 360 in 2010 just to alleviate boredom. Can barely remember anything I played on it. Got a xbone in 2015 coz I was cashed up. Never finished MGS5, Alien Isolation or Witcher 3. These games are gorgeous but fucking boring. The only time I fired up the xbone was to play battlefield 4 multiplayer. I thought I'd give gaming one more chance. Got an autistically expensive over the top self built set up (x34 predator, 64gb ram, several tb of ssd and hdd, 1080te, htc Vive, 5.1 surround sound and reciever). Started playing cheap survival horrors, truck/plane sims etc, total war game including one of my now top 5 favourite games of all time Shogun 2. It's been incredibly rewarding and amazingly fun. That was September 2017, I haven't touched my xbone since. Also got a switch in June last year and I've played the shit out of that too.

I just switched from a 24" 1080p 144hz to a 27" 1440p 155hz and I'm blown away by how much better it is. I always kind of thought higher resolutions were a meme but it really makes a huge difference.

If you have the power for it. 1080p is still in "just fine/ good" territory and very easy to handle. However the essential death of MSAA has made things go to blurfests with only FXAA for a while, now TAA in everything, and the games look even worse with AA off than they used to due to being designed for it. Have you tried DSR 4k on a 1080p monitor (0% smoothing) I would say it looks fantastic

Yeah many people have kept away from it because that reason, even i thought the game was just gonna be some cheap chink shit and laughed how shitty the characters looked, but goddamn if i wasn't pleasantly surprised by how good it was, especially after i played stardew valley and realized how disappointing that turned out. Portia is basically a more fleshed out stardew valley but with mass crafting instead of mass farming, and it's not as easy to break the game economy like it is in stardew where you can make 8 billion kegs and cover the world with them.
