it's not a boogeyman at all, i'm a fan of both series. it's just something i've usually noticed with people who complain about digimon's designs. people go into it with the wrong expectations based on other series in the same genre instead of judging digimon as its own thing.

it's easier, mostly because speed got nerfed hard. unlike the first game, it's not basically mandatory to have ulforceveedramon on your team for the late game (plus his support skill got nerfed anyway).

No one said Pokemon designs are bad. The two franchises just have different approaches to monsters. Pokemon are simple, round, and generally friendly/approachable looking. Omegamon, for as neat as his introduction was, kind of poisoned the well for Mega designs. I am well aware that not all Megas are armored humanoids, but those are the ones that get advertised the most.
The Shoutmon came along and just crashed the plane by being a Sentai Cluster Mecha. Then he did one worse by Digivolving in to a dude with armor and having his ultimate form be the cluster mech with wings (Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode).

most people who like digimon got into when they were kids as it was the alternate to pokemon during that initial time frame. Digimon world 1 and 2 are decent, never played 3, and most of the games after that have no US release and any who do are on shit like psp, ps3 and are hard to get. It's got a whole world to it though and is reaally deep with the monsters, so i'd get into it for that if anything.

Digimon World 3 is more like a standard JRPG in that "raising" your Digimon is just grinding exp for it's different forms.
Fun game, but there's a metric fuckton of backtracking and the random encounter rate is a contender for the highest/most bullshit ever.

I'd say there four game worth trying if you don't have attachment to the series.

First, there's Digimon World and Digimon Next Order. Try out World, since you can emulate it easy enough. It's a weird and unique game that's jank as all hell, but, and I fucking hate to use this word, it has "soul". If you play and think "Boy, I would be willing to trade some of this soul to get rid of all the jank and impossible to understand mechanics", then maybe consider buying Next Order (or pirating it if you have a Vita).

A more traditional game is Digimon World Dawn/Dusk. It has some raising mechanics, but it plays much more like a normal RPG. There's lots and lots of Digimon, and the game is just a touch broken, so it's pretty easy to make anything you enjoy using viable. It's a fun, easy to play game, only held back by a slow start.

Last is Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory. Do you know SMT? It's that, but with a silly anime plot, shittier balance, and easier build experimentation. I say Hacker's Memory is the same game, because in Japan it was just bundled into the PS4 version, and everything runs off the same engine, mechanics, etc. Hacker's Memory is much better, but it REALLY relies on you knowing what the fuck happens in CS, so I wouldn't suggest jumping straight to it.

Alright anons, I'm autistic as fuck and want to make a whole digivolution chart based on what digimon I like/what I would want from a partner line.

However, I don't know how to handle it. The Kuramon/Keramon line is my favorite, so I want it to be the base skeleton everything else is built around

Should I try to just have it include every digimon I like via any obscure evolution method no matter how illogical they are off of kuramon (and then Tsumemon, Pagumon, and Arkadimon baby) or should I try to stick with mons that have some sort of thematic consistency? How should I deal with shit like some Demon type digimon being able to digivolve from both Arkadimon and Keramon's core line, and then Pagumon's on the other side of the chart, so i'd need lines going between all 3 main branches, which would be a visual mess? Should I only draw lines where the evolutions make a ton of logical sense to avoid that? Or maybe have each branch be arranged radially in a circle? Should I bother to stick canon evolutions at all?

Pic related is what I have done so far just to draft it out. Non-canon evolutions are in blue, and I haven';t shown any evolution links that would have to like cross over/under a ton of any other digimon like duskmon > mephismon and such, the Arkadimon/Keramon line back and forths being the only real one

Was also thinking that maybe I should just have this be a "Nightmare soldier/Dark Area" chart, and then also do charts for other fields based on mons I like from each but i'm not sure if I like enough mons from other fields to justify them. However, I then need to decide if I do seperate charts for Dark Area vs Nightmare soldier. How it is now, due to the crossover, the chart is heavily lopsided with the Pagumon side due to the larger pool of nightmare soldier mons as evolution. Keeping it truly Dark Area only, so just Demon and eldritchy digimon like Keramon line, would somewhat solve this, but it'd still set up an issue where it's lopsided towards demon digimon since there's not many in the sort of tentacle eldirtchy group (I tried to see if I could further split it so they are their own chart, in a smaller v-pet style setup, as seen in pic related, but it seems to be too lopsided towards later stages to work, though I apperciate suggestions, maybe vademon?) and seperating Dark Area from Nightmare Soldiers would mean that i'm exlcuding a ton of obvious evolution links due to largerly arbitrary categoirzation given how iffy the Dark Area assignments are

Or Should I go FULL autism and also include other baby 1's I like and just have a giant ass-web with each field originating from a given baby 1? Having to connect shit from one end to the other would be insane though, since it'd be many times bigger then this. On the flip side, I could just do something much simplier like a tree of maybe 2-3 baby 2's, 4-5 childs, 6-7's adults, 5-6 perfects, and 4 ultimates or so, like the old vpets, and maybe do 1 per field (with either a combined dark area/nightmare soldiers, seperate, etc ) though i'd rather do that AND some big ones

It's been so long I don't really remember a clear favorite anymore. Especially since as I got older, I was able to appreciate designs more, for example, as a kid, I hated Taomon with a passion, but now I think it's a neat concept even if the design is a little dull.

As a kid, my favorites were always the leader's digimon and it's entire line, so Agumon, Veemon, Guilemon, and Agunimon. I stopped watching after Frontier.

Now, I guess if you asked me what Digimon I'd like for a partner, I could see myself picking those mons, but I'd be happy with almost anything so long as it had cool evolutions. Stuff like Rosemon or Angewomon would not be up my ally.

I always get a little bittersweet thinking about Digimon whenever it comes up, because I'm both glad that others remember it too, but I'm sad because it seems like it'll never be at least as good as it used to be, or continue to get better, and I hate how furries have ruined my enjoyment of things like Digimon and Pokemon by plaguing the internet with their shitty "art" and ridiculous takes when discussions come up.

Oh well, I supposed my ability to share seasons 1-4 with my younger brothers and maybe even my kids in the future will be more than enough.

I'm not sure how to feel about X Digimon. On the one hand, they're basically an excuse to make a design buisier and edgier, on the other hand, a few them, like WarGreymon X and MetalGarurumon X are fun ways to fuck around with a Digimon's design without having to obliterate their colour schemes.

I got the first release digimon figurines in fourth grade for Christmas when everyone else at school had Pokémon toys. I told them mine were Japanese imported and mameomon was a Hitmonchan evolution.

Yeah as a kid I thought kabuterimon was okay because his arms were thin and I thought his mandibles were his tongue always sticking out so I thought he was dumb.

Took me a while to realize I was dumb and Kabuterimon is a boss.

I'm honestly pretty happy BeelStarrmon's getting some attention lately. First it was some art by Kenji Watanabe for the Digimon Card Game 15th anniversary box, then she gets her V-Pet debut with the 20th Anniversary Pendulum V-Pet, and gets some reference art released at roughly the same time.

Now she's returning in the new V-Pet, and even has an X-Antibody form too.

Before you know it, she might end up in an actual Digimon game one of these days, or make an anime debut once Bandai stops with their Adventure-wank.

Maybe. It's probably going to be a long time before Bandai stops wanking Adventure and returns to making a new Digimon series... and not a Digimon-adjacent series like Appli-Monsters, either.

I think Bandai's pushing King Drassil too hard. He's been all over the place since Savers and even found a way to get himself in to Adventure. It's not like he does anything interesting either, it's always "Humans are being jerks, lets kill them all!". Homeostasis is barely a character but is still somehow better than Drassil.

That said, Tamer's lore with the Monster Makers and Digignomes is superior.

i like them all, but my favorites of the line are keramon (absolutely adorable), diablomon x (looks like a zelda boss), and armageddemon (looks weirdly cute crawling around the dungeons in hacker's memory).

if they ever make a tamers sequel, i'm curious to see how they work yggdrasil in.
chances are, they'd just butcher it like tri, but if they actually decided to write a coherent story, i suppose they could just say that the monster makers created yggdrasil to watch over the digital world.

I just finished marathoning Tri's dub movies, and it was so much more enjoyable than the sub's releasing in episode batches. The story still has the same issues, but it's carried a lot better in the movie format with some voices that get nostalgia points (I was smiling like a motherfucker when Agumon first pops up and you hear his old voice again)
