For all the good improvements this game has as a fighting game, from auto-retry to being able to slow down the game, it still has the problem every other fighting game has: it can't accurately tell me where I messed up in a combo or trial. Like, I know what move isn't connecting and that it's caused by my timing somewhere in a combo, but I just don't know where because it's definitely not the move that the game says I dropped it on. I don't blame UNIST for this, but man it's infuriating.

Experienced players seem to act kinda shitty towards new people from what I've seen. I haven't had issues finding games like this in any other fighter, even Xrd. I'm sure discord is better but the regular ranked/lobbies are rough.

You can master every one of those missions on your first try and still be shit at fighting games. Execution will come to you but don't get hung up on the mindset that not being able to do optimized combos prevents you from being good.

Learn something that you can convert any hit off of, and one combo that you can use your meter for. Unless you are a char you can use meter to set up oki or something

The veteran missions are good. But you have to look at them. How often are you going to be in a position to hit them off of their specific starter? Will you have the resources? And so forth. It's not a strict guideline of always doing that every time, either. You should pick up some simpler, general combos that you can do consistently even in your playing environment of choice, whether it be online or offline, and go from there.

Yes, combos shouldn't be your focus anyway. Combos mean nothing if you can't land the first hit. Get comfortable throwing out your special move inputs on demand (Z motions to anti air etc) to the point where you don't need to think about it, and focus on the absolute basics like landing the first hit of what will later be your combos (assault j.C, 5A, 2B etc), punishing with anti airs and blocking correctly. Combos give you a bigger reward from each opportunity but they mean nothing on their own and will distract you from what you need to focus on to improve.

A great player can win without using a single combo, and a shitty player could know every combo in the book and still fuck up. Work on your gameplan.

It's better to find matches there than pray that a thread like this pops up honestly. Just goto the netplay lobbies if ya wanna get straight to fighting.

I just picked this game up last night, what exactly makes Enkidu shit tier? I found him kinda fun because he's almost like a combination of fei long + yun/yang but to read that he's absolutely bottom tier is a bit rough.

His gameplan is hard to get started because this is full screen normals the game. Once you get in he's not so bad

He's close range (without the speed) and a lot of his stuff's unsafe. Teaches good fundamentals and he'll make you a better player if you stick with him since you can't rely on gimmicks as much. His basic combo stuff is really easy too so as a new player you don't need to focus on execution as much.

I-is there a lobby up on PS4 or PC?

This. Start with something simple like Normals into specials and then maybe a super for when you have meter. That way you don't need to worry about really strict timing or positioning of the longer combos but you still get about 60-75% of the damage.

After that, start thinking about how to keep the pressure on the opponent after the combo is finished. Sometimes, it makes sense to sacrifice some damage on the combo ender if it leaves you in a position to potentially start another assault all over from the beginning, for example.

Saw this posted earlier and thought I'd share it with ya.

A lot of it deals with his frame data and his moves being unsafe. Also his range being pretty short in a game where bitches can whipo you from more than half the screen away. There are players that do well with him despite that, I think one even got into the top 8 in some tournament recently.

This, regular ABC dial-a-combo into a special will do just fine. If you're playing Phonon use her rekka. It'll give you a chance to get used to the reverse beat system, since you'll be able to connect with any normal and still recover into the others. Everything else comes later. Assault j.C can still lead into that dial-a-combo and will get you acceptable damage for where you're at. Don't be discouraged by seeing your opponent pull off some crazy shit occasionally.

Yuzu's aesthetic design and mechanical design belong to two different characters. She appeals to a lot of people who tend to not grind out difficult things while also being one of the most complicated characters mechanically. Probably caused more newbie ragequits than any other character.

Fighting games reward you for effort invested. They're really the only genre left that have stuck to original game design philosophies for better and for worse.

On here it is 5 nights a week from around 9:30PM PST to around 1:00AM PST generally from Sunday through Thursday.

Otherwise, there are a few people in ranked matchmaking and your mileage may vary on the regular lobbies since sometimes you'll find people who kick you out of the lobbies if you're too good or not their friends.

Discord is a pretty good way to get quick matches. They have dedicated netplay channels if you wanna avoid the social interaction aspect of the server.

I can't say how well UNIST explains its systems as I only have the JP version but I would recommend maybe looking into Guilty Gear Xrd- it has one of the most comprehensive tutorials around and much of that will translate in one way or another to other fighting games.

It also unironically has one of the best stories in the genre and top-tier waifus so even if you don't stick with it competitively, you've got that. I'd actually say it's the only fighting game story worth experiencing.

Use Shield to push people away, it's like Barrier except you can't hold it and you'll die if you mess up your block.

The only anime fighter where you can get consistent matches through matchmaking is DBFZ. All other anime fighters have dead servers cause everyone partners up with people on discord. Thats the way its been with anime fighters for years now.

This game isn't like BB/GG. You're allowed to just block for a while without getting blown up. Shielding is nice, but likely to get you extra killed if you use it wrong. If you have vorpal, you have Guard Thrust at your disposal at a more reasonable cost.

So for mid combo dashing attacks, I double tap on my analog stick. but for neutral, I use forward A+B macro.

Picked up the game very recently and trying to pick a main.

Currently looking at Chaos, Linne, Nanase, or Orie.

Any thoughts? I'm basically a complete noob to fighting games, I played Street Fighter IV a while back but only played Dudley and wasn't very good.

Button dash in neutral, stick/pad dash during combos since you can buffer it.

when you get close, throw her or bait the dp. then once you've conditioned her to block, go for risky overheads.

You can use Wagner's 214C to go through Vats projectiles, so if she's zoning you out that's always an option.

I don't really know how to answer that because I don't really play fighting games.

I like having options - I want to be able to adjust a reasonable amount depending on who I'm facing rather than running the same general gameplan, if possible.

I don't necessarily need a projectile or absurd range, but I don't want to feel helpless at anything other than close range.

I really don't like charge moves but I'm open to other types of 'gimmicks'.

IIRC, it's mainly used in the corner but can be done out of it as well in specific routes. But they gotta be high up or something. You can't just do it off any old thing. I believe it's usually done after 214BC.
I aint a Linne player though.

I was thinking of checking out the PC lobby for the first time in a while too since I haven't played those guys in a while, but recently my DS4 has been desyncing randomly for a second at a time on PC during games. This is my second replacement cable so on top of my random DP problem that happens occasionally on PC, I don't know why I am so cursed with the PC port.

You're right in that you generally do it off 214X~C.You need to delay it so the opponent gets knocked further up. Technically you don't except for some routes, but I'd be impressed anyone can do the inputs fast enough in netplay. Other than that, you just need to mash the B and C followups in the air in quick succession. I just practiced the inputs on my stick without even doing the combos themselves.

Also Mag, you better watch out since Brain has a pretty decent Orie starting out and he's already labbed the big corner combos. I look forward to those mirror matches.

Also, you can do it midscreen, but you're pretty much putting your opponent fullscreen again, as Linne. I see Jikangire do it because he's pretty confident in his defense and neutral. Good for charging GRD if you're paying attention though.
That said, you're better off doing the normal route, and ending in 2C -> 214B~B which does the same thing in neutral. The 2c -> 5C routes also end in that in the corner since you can't do the normal corner ender for that starter.
