At least Xenoblade 1 was refreshingly polished in the gameplay department for a Xeno title. It traded the scale of its story in favor of freedom and exploration it worked well for the time. But then 2 bloated and bastardized the fuck out of that formula with shit like the gacha mechanics, field skills, mercenary missions, salvaging, and other tedious bullshit. And that's in addition to the fact that the story sucks balls and isn't salvaged in the slightest by the last minute sequel tie-in. Xenoblade 2 is such a mess of unfocused game design and writing.
