What I dislike about fighting Ganondorf is how it changes up the entire process of playing. I have an identical issue with Ike, even more so.

If I approach I'm at an inherent disadvantage. If he approaches I get extremely easy punishes. This is especially true with non-projectile characters that don't have the range they do (Kirby for example has to practically be crawling up their assholes to hit anything).

I have no reason to ever run in on him when just standing on the other side of the stage and waiting for him to come in on me will give me easy punishes and the game just becomes about standing still until the Ganon decides to try something or the Ike realises I'm not just going to walk into his Nairs.

it's like fighting a grappler in a traditional 2D fighter. their gameplan is Getting In and if they out-neutral you and succeed you fucking die.
i guess it is a bit different to playing against most other characters, but having to switch up your playstyle is a good thing, i think. gives you a chance/reason to try other strategies.

Ganon and Ike aren't like Zangief and Tager at all in terms of gameplay. Ganondorf spams nair to wall people out, Ike does too. They don't close in usually to do a command grab, it's just that they have no projectiles or gimmicks so they have to hit you with their fists or swords. Ganon's flamechoke is for mixups but it's not his most prominent move, that's why you don't see anyone complaining about it and instead Doryah. Tager has superarmor on Sledgehammer which lets him close in and he also has superarmor when charging. Has a projectile and can magnetize enemies. He's not like Ganon or Ike at all.

Also while we're at it, give the option to toggle B as special or heavy attack. I never use B on the shotos unless it's to focus attack. Make focus attack into Shield+B like Inkling's recharge. Input lag makes it ridiculous to time heavy and weak hits. I appreciate the effort, but it makes the characters way too much effort when you have to time button presses to get the moves you want out instead of having different buttons for them.

No other game makes me angry like Ultimate does, not even other Smash games. It's annoying, It's always too late when I do that sort of stupid shit.

These types of edits are a lot more entertaining than your usual pro plays

Dorf is a headgame. His tools are a bit better this go around with solid neutral game but swords still pose problems and zoners are difficult matchup as well. Despite his solid pokes, he's still too slow and thus predictable, meaning he is less about technical skill and more about psychology. You need a good mixup game to land anything so if you get into a style gut or a flow chart, your opponent will beat you.

I usually find I body a new opponent very easily with dorf but it gets harder to maintain parity the more matches we play. You have to be very creative

I wish Ganon had his old UpSmash again. It feels really weird not having a grounded anti air option. Granted, his UpAir is really good & short hop low enough so that it isn't too much of a commitment, but still.

The auto facing only works after you land again. Both ryu and Ken are heavily dependent on combos for killing, gotta get super good with reliable down tilts.

The opportunities are there but steep learning curve. Without combining into the kill moves, you will end up tatsu them at like 180% for a kill, just unworkable

A braindead character on the other hand takes no skill, but is less hated because they can at least be fun both to fight as and fight against. You should never MAIN a braindead character though because you're not really opening yourself up for improvement.

It's almost as if having 3 or 4 viable playstyles add variety and depth to a game. Smash has good rush down characters in Pichu, Pikachu, Spacies, and Swordboys, good ranged characters in Megaman, Ness, and ROB, and finally good heavy characters like Ike and Dorf. The only issue is most tournament organizers dont like small stages where Heavies can trap projectile and fast characters, like Wario ware and Castle Seige. The stage makes a real difference here, sadly, PS2 is rough for slower moving characters

That's weird. Maybe it's cause I main Ridley but I'm not afraid of approaching Ganondorfs. Sure he's beat me at times but I wouldn't say so much that it makes me rage like a motherfucker like most of the SSS+++ tier characters. Hell I have trouble with a good bit of characters because I'm sadly not as good as I'd like to be. Swordies I either do well against or just lose completely. No middle ground. It's either constant nonstop aerials and combos or I can just approach without much trouble.

Legit fuck Inkling though. Not only is it hard to hit but it's fast as fuck, has a dash that might as well be a constant dodge roll, does more damage as you get inked, and even though it got nerfed has a free bury if you happen to not block in time.

I consider it a godsend when I come across a Ganondorf because, at least for me and Ridley, they're usually fun fights and I personally rarely see them. I do however see the top 10 or so high tier characters over and over again.

I miss when you weren't forced to deal with GSP. Just add For Fun back you fuckers.

I usually prefer Battlefield even if it's a spammy character like Ness/Lucas/Samus. I feel safer with the platforms and like I have a better advantage if I can get someone to land on one. Some characters like Ness do get clear advantages from Battlefield though and while annoying I do think I'd prefer it over FD where you can just lob things everywhere without much room to get out of the way. Then you have characters like Snake where it doesn't matter anyway. Have 2 nades, a missile, C4, and a heavy character coming to rape your ass nonstop. Did he really need two nades at a time?

What is it with some characters hitboxes? Ness is a good example. His aerial moves seem to hit further away than what the animation looks like. I mean sure my character is the biggest boy but even if I've clearly tossed out a fair or nair or anything Ness will still get the hit in and then proceed to hit me twelve more times. Swordies do this too with their swords having psychic force abilities of their own with longer reach than what the animation looks like. Fuck I feel like I get punished for blocking an attack at times or even landing an attack at times. Maybe I'm just doing something fundamentally wrong.

Good work against the Ness. He gives me a lot of trouble as Ridley. I mean, so does Cloud but I at least feel I have chances to get in on Cloud. Even a bad Ness is unfun to fight. With Cloud he feels so fast and strong that unless I can get in at all and somehow get him off stage I'm fucked, but if I can get him off stage I've an ok chance.

I wish Ridley was a super heavyweight for this reason. He can get combo'd easy and having just a bit more survivability would really help him out. Jumping, turning around in mid air, and landing a down b with him is very fucking satisfying. People don't seem to really expect it either.

I loathe GSP. Not only do I get annoyed at losing points in a number that I know is pointless, but it effects others in similar ways. People say use arenas but you'll be waiting forever to get a match in. Why there isn't a quickplay style mode where no GSP is involved is beyond me.

Down throw to skewer doesn't always work especially if the person knows about it. I was able to win by a hair by pulling this off when I was at ko percent on my last stock and the other person was at 0 on their last stock. From my understanding and general experience down smash covers the most options if you land a skewer, especially if they're at the ledge. If they stand up, attack, roll to you, they're hit. They have to roll away to avoid it and if they're at the ledge they can't do shit.

Kirby is my most comfortable main, but I'm on a mission to get the whole roster into elite, or at least as many as I can manage. I've gotten most of the first row in so far, along with the characters I like the most besides Pikachu.
