The only consistent save point in the game potentially spawns the equivalent of the merchant post-theft in mystery dungeon games if you lose an in game coin flip. Half his moves mutilate you or kill you outright if not guarding. He is killable though and beating him gets you access to the best weapon in the game which is good because he's nowhere near the hardest enemy.
