I never played rune factory, how is it different from stardew?

it's a jrpg with harvest moon farming

the main difference though is that rune factory is good

stardew valley good music that stops every 10 seconds and leaves you in silence and no one is intelligent enough to make a fucking mod that loops the music without adding other stupid bullshit

Just got done playing Stardew for like a week and I feel like I've done everything I even remotely want to do. I reached level 120 in the mines, started dating Leah, and... that's about it. Is there anything else worth doing in this game? The only game where I found farming fun was in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, in every other game it just feels like a chore. I wish I liked this game more, but I feel like I've hit a wall, and the game just constantly makes me wish I could just play A Wonderful Life on literally anything other than my original GameCube. Playing Multiplayer with a friend btw.

Better combat but more animu. Anyone in town can also be a party member to help build towards relationship stats. Rune Factory 4 had a patch of soil in regions in each season of each season so you can technically grow Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter crops year round.

Transportation and time tends to be more lenient but only because there's a lot more to do daily.

No harm in trying out the Rune Factory 4 re-release on Switch since they finally announced 5

A modern AC with GC's-tier dialogs, music, NL's everything else, the possibility to pick between a top-down view, a roll camera and a free camera and cooking mechanics would be the best game in the series.

I may not be the best person to ask, I started with Rune Factory 3 and continued on to play RF4 and Tides of Destiny. But I think it's safe to say RF4 is a decent one to start with though others may disagree

Just start with the first one and go through them in chronological order. That way you will appreciate all the QoL changes so much more.

3 or 4. Most would recommend 3 since every RF game introduces more QoL that makes it hard to go backwards.

If I made a PC game based on the original AC, what would you guys want in it?

talk to villagers and do things for them
mail and receive letters
catch bugs
collect paintings
plant trees and flowers to make your town look the way you want
design patterns for use on clothes, walls/floors, etc.

its a cozy life sim. you have to find your own joy in the act of doing these things. experience is greatly enhanced if you roleplay/make headcanon for your villagers. if you're looking for excitement, achievements, or some carrot on a stick to keep you interested then this isn't a game for you.

Fun stuff to do.

imo they're not trying to be the same game. Stardew valley is in the harvest moon tradition, and is trying to be a proper game that you can sit down and play for hours.
Animal crossing practically discourages you from playing long sittings. It seems to WANT to be a game you only play for 15 minutes a day, something to unwind with but not take seriously.

I don't think it's worth comparing them beyond that.

Nah, it's just that most of them are badly drawn or have awful artstyles. It's either anime-style portraits done by an amateur with a generic artstyle and not much skill in drawing so it just looks lame or tumblr artstyle. There is one portrait mod by some dude called DCBurger or some shit, that's almost good. Like his males are amazing, but his females are awful and mostly look kinda masculine and Abigail is just straight up a guy in that mod. Then there is a couple that are decent, but make some of the characters designs even worse. It really fucking sucks.

Stardew is based on Harvest Moon, not Animal crossing. They aren't similar at all.

stardew valley's clock system disrupts its activities too much
between farming, buying seeds, fishing, romancing, combat, foraging, mining, and getting materials where they need to be you'd probably need around a full 4 people just to fill out the whole list on a daily basis, and thats not counting for managing energy

animal crossing has the opposite problem: you're given the whole 24 hours to do a more limited selection of activities
