Yes. Yes they are. I just don't see the appeal in Undertale. All it is is a game that coddles the player into thinking they're good for not killing pixels, then tries to hide bad writing with obnoxious humor and idiotic characters and will realistically not garner any sympathy from any sane human being. And it's not even much of an RPG either. What kind of RPG is it when things like leveling and developing your character mean literally nothing and getting the best ending requires doing the bare minimum of what makes an RPG an RPG? I keep seeing this used as a defense and....I've gotta say. That's bull. There are monsters that are particularly hostile to you BECAUSE you're human. And even if they don't realize that you're not a monster, are they not capable of realizing when their attacks (oh, I'm sorry, their "methods of communication") are hurting you? Even that's hard to say since many actively use their bullets as weapons and none have ever used them for anything else as far as the narrative presents.

Sorry to disappoint, but contrary to what you might like to think, I played it. The game isn't good at excusing anything on account of the monsters because its explanations either contradict eachother, contain loopholes or just don't make sense when you actually play the game.

With Deltarune your choices do have an effect on the overall outcome (your encounter with the King of Spades goes differently depending on whether you tried to kill everything or spared everything up to that point) but I think what Toby means is the larger plot will stay the same and the outcome of individual events will still lead into a predetermined solution. You'll still shuffle off and seal the pillar whether things work out peaceably or not, but Lancer might not become king, stuff like that.

Undertale has a true ending, it's the ending Toby wanted you to get and the one he supports himself the most. The fanbase even calls it the true pacifist ending. Stop trying to spin this post modern interpretation of the game.

"True endings" are canon endings; they have nothing to do with which one the author likes the most or wishes people would do the most.

True Pacifist is called True Pacifist because you can be a complete pacifist without getting that particular ending. In addition to not killing anyone, you have to go on the two dates and finish the True Lab. If you simply don't do them, you won't get that ending, despite the fact that you were a pacifist. It has nothing to do with it being a "true ending" or not. No ending is canon in Undertale as of yet because Toby has not made it so. Whether or not he personally likes one ending or not is completely irrelevant.

UT isn't a very original concept for a game. It would have improved dramatically honestly if Toby actually had ripped off some of the work of it's contemporaries like OFF or Space Funeral and improved on them, instead of reinventing the wheel.

sure the characters berate you when you're on the Genocide route, but that's only what makes sense for them to do. of course they'd rather not be murdered, every character in every story ever would tell you to stop if you were doing that. that's only logical. so then you think about the decisions that Toby actually made as a developer. he made a game where you can mercilessly and personally murder every single one of the friendly funny cute characters for no reason other than the fact that you felt like doing it. basically Toby is just allowing you to do whatever the fuck you feel like and going through the amount of effort to make it not break your immersion even if you want to be omnicidal. the tagline is "the RPG where nobody has to die" but it could really just as easily be called "the RPG where you can murder every single character in the game" because that's at least as rare.

again the game never calls you, the player, a bad person for playing genocide. at the end Chara comes out and (despite his spooky face) just says a bunch of stuff that's objectively true - you killed all the enemies, got stronger (and more skilled) and now there's nothing left to do but go play the next game. gg. highly satisfying ending IMO
