Can we have a general fighting games thread? Any plans for EVO-viewing this year? Stream setups or watching at Mandalay Bay? Snack of choice to be chowing down on?
Also, poat favorite games & mains.

Gonna be there (4th year) and as always I plan on watching all the top 8s. Last years Sm4sh was godawful though.

Only Snacks I can eat are whatever they sell of there, so basically nachos.

Still deciding what games to enter atm, along with mains (Aint playing SFV after what a slapdash job capcom has done to that game and to MvCI).

I'll watch most of the top 8s but I really only care about SFV and UNIST. I picked up UNIST today. I hope it can pull me away from SFV..

I seriously hope samsho doesn't suck because it got in too early. Love that series to death and don't want it to pay the price for killing melee.

Better question: WHAT U PLAYING AT EVO?
>SamSho
SamSho V Special is my favorite fighting game of all time, so I'm glad to see this franchise come back. Gonna dump time into this baby.
>UNIST
I'm only so-so at this game, but it's so fun that I can't help but enter.
>SFV
Fuck this game, and fuck me, but I'm entering anyways because there's no other SF game.
>MK11
Dunno if I'm going to enter. I typically don't like NRS games, but I'll give this one the fair shake, and decide later if I want to play it or not.

watch: unist, dbfz, tekken 7, sfv, samsho
skip: the rest
snacks: beer mostly

Man I wish I could get over to Evo to show up for what may be the only time every Samsho gets up on the main stage but getting to vegas from the east coast is pricey as hell.

I'll be there, will just be playing UNIST. I'd like to play BBTAG, T7 and SCVI but I can only really manage playing 1 fighter seriously

I'm gonna watch DBFZ, UNIST and Tekken. Maybe BBTAG and SC if I'm in the mood for more. I'll probably order take out while watching.

Attached: 1527525253383.gif (500x283, 1010K)

You know what to do.

Attached: 1541223000523.jpg (1433x930, 95K)

Im in the same boat as you.

I wanna go to EVO, but the fact that I live outside of the USA and the travel expensive could be used in better things is making me not to go. If I get some money by May, I could plan it out.
As for games, I try to watch all the top 8 and some of the side tournaments, specially Catherine I do play GG, SFV, Tekken and UNIST.

I'll be at home watching Tekken 7, Smash U, and SC 6.

I'm definitely watching MK11, Samsho and DBFZ's Top 8's. Don't care about the rest.

Attached: 1551726850378.jpg (1433x930, 109K)

>Can we have a general fighting games thread?
Sure. Though there are fighting game threads on /vg/ if you want it on the regular.

>Any plans for EVO-viewing this year?
Of course. At least Unist and SamSho. Plus some side tournaments like GG.

>Stream setups or watching at Mandalay Bay?
Stream. I'm EU so right now Vegas isn't an option.

>Snack of choice to be chowing down on?
No idea, probably candy.

>Also, poat favorite games & mains.
Guilty Gear and Unist with May and Yuzu.

>WHAT U PLAYING AT EVO?
I wish. Maybe some day during the life cycle of the next GG, whenever that is.

Attached: 1524881469701.jpg (2550x3900, 3.77M)

Gonna watch Unist, Samsho and possibly babytag. I wish there were majors near me I could go to without having to get a hotel.

man it fucking baffles me how bad i am at fighting games.

i think i have some wrong with my brain or something.

Attached: tumblr_osliuzVYQx1tu52bjo1_1280.jpg (977x1920, 149K)

don't worry user, you're in good company

Attached: isuck.jpg (731x700, 53K)

It takes more practice then a lot of people let on.

Going to be watching the streams. Currently mostly invested in UNIST and SSBU, play Enkidu/ Mika and Bowser/Wario. I'd really appreciate some tips on how to fight Hilda and Vatista as both of them in particular, they give me the most trouble.

Attached: 1527178053988.gif (100x100, 23K)

rol

Dash blocking is really helpful against Vatista and Hilda

Waiting for the new GBV trailer next saturday

When the fuck is Rumble Fish 2 getting a home port?

Will she enter this year's EVO?

Attached: 768014505761.jpg (640x360, 34K)

Watching UNIST, Smash, Samsho.
Will probably bother watching only the top 8 or less for DBFZ and BBTAG

How much have you played them? It's a genre that requires patience.

Dash block, have patience and maybe perform some sacrifices to the deity of your convenience. Shielding will also get you some nice GRD and maybe provoke the opponent to approach you.

Will that be on some stream?

Attached: 1539052431565.jpg (900x560, 262K)

youtube.com/watch?v=kWY2RymoyIM
5th year anniversary stream, there should be a trailer somewhere during it

>How much have you played them? It's a genre that requires patience.
Man i get this shit all the fucking time.

i think i had around 600 hours on USF4, around 300 hours on sf3 and for arc sus games i get around 100+ or something. Now i am not saying i was expecting to be the next daigo but i can't even get out of pressure. n DBFZ i kinda lost count on how many fights i spent solely holding back to block because i have zero idea on how to get out of blockstrings or how to get in the offense. Just today i was playing Guilty Gear and the dude thought i was so bad he simply stopped playing. This shit is wack and i dont want to get into fighters anymore. i was thinking on trying the new samurai showdown but ill just get destroyed on that too.

Still so glad to see Ultimate without Melee. If MvC2 and Third Strike don't stick around this long, there's no reason Melee should've.

Awesome. I'm really looking forward to this. I don't know a thing about Granblue but ArcSys and Pachi are enough to sell it to me.

>Man i get this shit all the fucking time.
People tend to drop whatever game after less than a week, so it's the most obvious thing to ask. It's kind the "turn it off and on again" of fighting games.

>but i can't even get out of pressure
Getting out of pressure is mostly about defensive tools and frame data, the latter being really important in games with less defensive tools (like Street Fighter). Did you delve into the frame data when playing Street Fighter?

Attached: 1551642242708.png (608x404, 220K)

>Watching?
Definitely tuning in for UNiST and BBTAG, love seeing those games in action at high levels. Maybe I'll also tune into SSBU and DBFZ if I'm really in the mood for them.

>Playing?
Smash, and basically anything ArcSys produces lol.

>Mains?
Way too many to name per game. This is just one reason why I'll never be good, it's too much fun playing with different characters

>Did you delve into the frame data when playing Street Fighter?
yeah i did but i am just too much of brainlet to react to shit in basically any game.

Gonna be all over UNIST and Tekken

Huh, that sure sounds like a problem. Are reaction times an issue in other genres like shooters or something like that?

Attached: 1551571180744.png (1920x1080, 1.18M)

not really, i play shooters and every other genres just fine.

Uhh, where's melee?

I feel bad for fighting game nerds in Europe. There was never really an FGC boom in Euro-land cause apparently you guys never had Arcades like we did in the USA and Canada

You even call it a "general" thread.

Then it's probably either a matter of not recognising the moves or not remembering the punish in time.
For the first one, you have to know what moves you want to retaliate against (and what they look like) and look for them while you block.
For the second, just practice the punishes in training mode.

Attached: 1534651247686.png (750x750, 250K)

I hear the Blazblue tag game is really dumbed down and shitty. And DBFZ feels really dumbed down and shitty. They should have had CentralFiction and GG Xrd Rev 2 instead of those two.

I feel like EVO will see big change next year, though it is down to how GBV does. If it is a complete flop then not much happens, but if it takes off at all then they are taking a dump truck full of money to every TOs house. I mean they could buy out every tournament with the money they make in a day from GBF

The concept of main line up is probably going to disappear, or expand to the point where it doesn't mean much any more. There are just too many games that have active enough audiences

Attached: 1551081366898.gif (600x600, 743K)

Going by the entrance rates. Most people agree. BBCTB is a dumbed down 2 button fighter that while fun to play gets old quick. DBFZ lacks a lot of defensive options that you really need for a tag fighter.

>tfw still no Makoto
I guess it's for the best, all things considered.

Attached: 1462796025848.png (840x810, 51K)

I don't really like SFV but I hear my girl Ibuki is top tier. So that makes me happy I guess.

Attached: Ibuki ninja.png (433x650, 345K)

>DBFZ lacks a lot of defensive options that you really need for a tag fighter.
They recently radically buffed one of the defensive options basically ending the blockstring-jail-into-50/50 era. Any set up that's too obvious you can just guard cancel out of if you have a bar to spend. Now stagger pressure, hi/lo's and hard reads have renewed emphasis.

Dashblock. Unless you are playing a zoner, the game is basically Dashblock the game.

smelees screeching ruins the serene neutral of samsho

I usually play GG and UNIST but recently I've been playing a lot of smash ult. It's my first smash game since playing melee back when it was new so I'm starting from zero really. The games really fun but I'm absolutely not used to how wildly different some characters are allowed to be in general power and usefulness, it really feels like a dice roll sometimes with how I'll try a character with really nice specials and recovery then I'll unlock another who is no stronger while having garbage recovery.

Why the FUCK isn't melee there? Melee MADE evo. Melee sure as hell deserves to be there more than a bunch of weeb fighting games no one has ever heard of or plays.

Attached: Eureka Mad.jpg (375x300, 10K)

youtube.com/watch?v=Y3QLNVrCeDo

I'm glad melee is gone but I'm not sure how I feel about SamSho, we really haven't seen much from it.

I'd rather the spot go to another scene that's sort of small but passionate like with UNIST; so maybe Pokken, which is criminally underrated due to Nintendo being retards and marketing it as if it were an arena fighter, or KI, which got fucked by the fact it's stuck on Xbone.

That sounds great. Is there actually complete frame data for the cast compiled anywhere now too? I'd like to get into the game.

Samsho is the hypest thing for me this year. I made an arcade stick just for it and Im really looking forward to going to my first tournaments because of it.

I'm skipping out on Combo Breaker to go to EVO again this year for UNIST since it's been my focus since release. I was a single round away from breaching into Top 24 last year and while I'd love to place higher since I've improved, it's going to be for nought in the face of the Japanese Arcade gods coming over as well as the other NA pros all flocking to test their mettle against them. I'm more interested in meeting up with the Yea Forums lobby people and getting my physical copy signed by the Battle Planner. This is UNI's year and I'm going to make the most of it

Attached: 1521607729006.jpg (1218x1561, 216K)

That one song with the "Da. Dadadada. Dadadada. Da" is forever imprinted into my memory.

Judging by the previous entries, Samurai Shodown can be great. So far it seems like it's looking good:
twitter.com/experimilk/status/1100627179690487808

All of those games had the chance at some point. Samsho deserves a shot as well.

Attached: 1524430503330.jpg (300x450, 91K)

>Is there actually complete frame data for the cast compiled anywhere now too? I'd like to get into the game.
Dustloop has most of it, but it depends a bit on which character. There's also a hitbox viewer mod that you can enter practice mode with. If you're interested you should check the pastebin in the general:

Attached: LVWNkQQ.jpg (2560x1440, 511K)

not at all. it also doesnt apply to sf only.

i suck at every fighting game.

i tried my best and failed miserably.

Attached: tumblr_ooiuski8R51tu52bjo1_1280.jpg (1135x1920, 148K)

Tekken, SamSho and UNIST. Will give SC6 another chance after losing interest in it previously but man I hate reversal edge, kills all momentum and tension when you play the game and when you watch it.

youtube.com/watch?v=O6AaAkTYVxM

It is weird, even with the couple of samurai games coming out soon it still feels like SamSho goes that extra mile. It is "enter Japanese level YOOOOOOO" the video game.

Attached: 1551425092349.png (698x624, 127K)

can you give template my bro

But you have to suck for a reason. Whether it is fixable or not is another thing. But as it doesn't seem to be because of reaction tines in general I think it is fixable.

It certainly does give that samurai feeling other games like Nioh don't. I love how the new art style still reflects that.

Of course. It's a GIMP project, so you will need GIMP to edit it. A blank background is still in as well as white cell backgrounds and some removed logos.

Go full hobo hitchhiker.

>unist BTFOs smash

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED

Attached: 1535509300809.jpg (1254x674, 58K)

I mean...

It does literally go "YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" fairly often.

i dont know man, after playing and sucking for so long i dont really think there's an fix.

Attached: 1546729280774.jpg (1550x2400, 420K)

Can someone explain to me the appeal of having a major tournament of a game that’s not available to the majority of the public?

I know some big name people get an early copy (or at least a beta) of a game, but how can the average person can compete against that.

For samsho it's ALMOST excusable because footsies skill is the most important part of the game and that should mostly carry over from previous titles, but yeah it's bullshit.

Is BBCTB dead on Switch?

because money.

however i am excited to see what samshow will bring to the table.

>that’s not available to the majority of the public?
But it will be before EVO begins. Is cutting it close though

anything fighting game related is dead on switch besides maybe sf anyversary edition.

>GG is cut over two niggas that aren't even out, a game nobody cares about and certainly won't be at evo next year, and a braindead version of GG that nobody plays
>BUT BASED EVO MADE SMELEEFAGS BUTTHURT

Attached: 1548213451775.png (900x900, 647K)

nobody really cares for gg.

Nobody really cares for ArcSys*

Xrd is 5 years old now and been on the decline for a while

Attached: evo.jpg (1200x226, 60K)

Well, I can't guarantee it, but I believe you can overcome it if you get to understand the problem and work on it. Just considering it simply being bad leaves you just playing aimlessly.

The game is supposed to come before EVO far enough in time for people to prepare.

GG has not received any updates in a lot of time. I'm OK with the spotlight being given to more fresh or less represented games.

ArcSys has 2 developed games in there and 1 published.

Attached: 1542482618531.jpg (1024x768, 300K)

thats actually kinda true. people just play whatever they shit out for a month, see that the game is either bad or overfilled with mechanics and annoying shit and they move to something else. i can already see the playerbase of grandblue fantasy and the rumored simplified version of gg to immediately die after a month or so. Same for that kill la kill game they are publishing.

I'm mostly interested in the anime fighters and tekken but I'll try to watch everything. I'm only really worried about MK11 because I tried to watch injustice 2 at evo and it literally put me to sleep. So I'm hoping this one will be better.

In regards to Samurai Shodown it's not as if it's a brand new IP. It has decades of history and games plus has had it's own tournaments. I don't expect the tournament to be big but it will give us a look at the potential of the game with pros that have experience with past games.

Sf ryu
mk subzero
smash u fox

Yes it's very exciting being me

Attached: 1539724942823.jpg (570x754, 91K)

Unless you are part of a specific community you can play with the only reason to own a fighting game on the switch is to lab on the go.

I hope so.

Attached: DqVPOMxVsAA5vuu.jpg (1200x900, 213K)

>I hope it can pull me away from SFV
If you like being rewarded for your skill instead of gambling, you'll love it.

bump

>that Tekken
Perfect.

ArcSys also has the most advertising by a country mile. Evo likes money and Arc will buy themselves in

Playing Smash Ultimate, Tekken 7 and a bit DBFZ. Just gonna watch Smash and Tekken though

Attached: 1550238299703.jpg (672x777, 43K)

Attached: cvs2.webm (720x480, 2.86M)

lol

my waifu gonna win Evo.

Attached: pls subscribe.webm (1920x1080, 459K)

>snacks: beer mostly
Can't go wrong with beer.

Would Capcom have them beat on that front?

>very good EVO lineup this year
>very tempted to attend since there's actually one game I'm great at this year
>I'm retardedly close to my Bachelor's Degree and it'd be more to my benefit to just pound out mad summer classes
This'll probably be Boober's last year too, but at least I get to play with my buds while we watch the festivities themselves, with Gordeau getting nerfed, shit's gonna be real cash-money, and I'm excited to see the turnouts on Samsho & UNI, and whether or not a Ridleybro can take it to Top 8 in Ultimate.
Also pls R8 my mains, old-ass template that needs some updating.

Attached: fightanmains.jpg (1848x3854, 3.88M)

wouldn't*

seeing as capcom could afford free t-shirts last timed I'd say yeah

Is the publisher really that moneyed?

Third Strike deserves to make a comeback

Attached: xiaoyu.webm (1280x720, 698K)

Even Pokken?

GBFV will be hard carried by Cygames money, same way NRS games live by WB money. GG will absolutely flop tho.

>rumored simplified version of gg

What?

Only watching Ultimate, and no one can stop me

I'll be watching the real Evo by the trashcans behind the venue.

Attached: ChVT4hVU0AAY5LB.jpg (600x338, 49K)

my man last year they have hokuto no ken in a full on stage with projector and everything
the trash can meme is dead

It's funny but the best part of EVO has always been far away from a lot of the tourneys, I stopped going years ago though and now with core values I won't bother watching

I as a seanigger watching from the sidelines believe this could be redemption arc for smash community in whole.
Either support other growing titles and start interacting with/watching other games - cuz u know FGC has the word community
Or stick being the entitled brat that wants everything but doesn't want anything to do with rest of the FGC

Attached: t3_avm9xm.jpg (800x800, 415K)

Hey man, at least it's not melee.

what is that? a Melty tournament?

GG creator said they will probably try to simplify GG somehow in the next version but nothing is confirmed yet.

probably.

No seeing how ArcSys has the most ad time
