But 2 MH games were announced for the 3DS before Vita was even released. Capcom really made sure everybody knows that MH won't be coming to the Vita before it even came out. So there's nothing to shitpost about the 3DS in 2011.

Technically the Vita was discontinued since 2016. NA/EU stores did not receive any new shipments since then. Even when you order a Vita from Amazon they import it from Japan but it's okay since Vita is a region free device.

And even if it weren't, the console isn't so cumbersome that I can't play with it plugged in.

One thing for sure is that Vita's sleep mode beats the shit out of 3DS sleep mode multiple times over. Vita can last more than a week in sleep mode on a single charge, 3DS at most is 3-4 days. Also when the Vita reaches 0% it saves whats stored in RAM to a partition and when it receives power again it resumes where you left off kinda like Hibernate mode on your PC.

PSP had video out (and became the controller), PSP Go had a video out dock and could pair with a PS3 controller wirelessly.
Vita was a relative powerhouse and had planned video out, but was scrapped in favor of PSTV (which is much better executed imo but they could have kept the video out).

No. If you held out this long you shouldn't bother. Most of the exclusives it had got ported elsewhere. It's not getting any future game announcements or any upcoming as of yet unannounced releases. Not even joking, everyone both east and west have moved on to Switch, PS4 or PC.
Trails, Gravity Rush and DRv3 are all on other platforms. Hearts R is pretty good and Oreshika is sorta weird and hit or miss. If you don't have a big list of Vita exclusives you want your time and money is better spent on getting a PS4 or upgrading your PC.

4G wasnt widespread and consumer devices back then had two versions with one of them having cellular sim cards for using your device on the internet.
However, WIFI was too common to use it and phones were way too simple to use that it's a unnecessary and useless feature.
I prefer Vita for emulation. Better screen, better controls, better hardware power to push upscaling or filters.
Amount sold is rather hollow to me when it's attached to a platform I no longer love.

They're fragile, too. You definitely want to put the console in a case. This is the advantage of a clamshell design.

I honestly never had trouble fitting my OLED Vita in my pocket, but then again I mostly wear cargo shorts and regular jeans not skinny ones.
I can't speak for other regions but here in the US LTE was already fully adopted by multiple carriers by late 2011 and the Vita was released in 2012. I remember my HTC One X had LTE and tethering back in 2012.
i have an oled original vita and an orange slim and a vita tv. i have a 32gb and a 64gb memory card and im still tempted to buy another vita now that production has ended, but new ones are so fucking expensive. theyre only to go up in price, though, so i still want another one for backup.
in my opinion, its far and away the best handheld ever made. idsay you should definitely grab a second hand oled model if youre interested. if you dont like japanese games, though, you might not care for it. if you have good taste, on the other hand, youll probably love it. some must haves:

the "vita nogeams" meme blows me away, but i get that a lot of people dont like the kind of games available for it. i have a 3ds and a switch as well, and i think vita is better than both as a handheld. WAY better build quality and screen then the 3ds and has double the battery of a switch.
Its not that it didn't physically fit in my jeans, its that it make a pocket that fit keys and wallets just fine super tight, and the sticks would bend. If I ever had to stretch my legs it would put more pressure on the sticks. I hated it. I never had a single complaint about the psp nub and just could not fathom why they changed it. At least do something where the sticks pop in and out for storage vs play?

Some had none, some had a few, some had it very fucking bad. It was like a lotto, just like how you had a random chance of getting a TN panel 3DS or a IPS panel 3DS.
The 3DS dropped its price with the Iwata ambassador program. I think it was around the time Iwata slashed his salary in half and made a public apology. Then OoT, Pokemon and MONSTER HUNTER came out and the rest is history.

I used a homebrew app to check which screen my 3DS has, and I have the shitty top AND bottom screen and still have no complaints compared to my Vita OLED

getting a TN/IPS doesn't really matter. you can have either but you may have a unlucky bad batch that has piss yellow colors or dead pixels. it's all part of the production process. Old OLEDs are just more susceptible because the technology was new at the time compared to LCD.
like most people in this thread(and everywhere) know, vita failed hard in the west but it was pretty popular in asia. i was in korea last year and saw a few people playing vita on the train. there are A LOT of japan/asia only games on vita that no one bothered to publish in the west because of perceived lack of interest in the machine.

PS3 was discontinued 2 years ago and the store is still up. Even if they shut down the store, the download servers will remain up just like PSP. All you need to do is access your download list on your device which is not apart of the store but in your account management menu or remote downloading from a PC.

maybe it has to do with the model revisions. I have a new 3ds xl and it handles perfectly fine and lasts a while, but heard people complaining about the new 3ds xl having worse build quality than the new 2ds xl, so they probably improved build quality with newer models.

i guess technically the 3ds xl will have like 30mins less battery life if youre using the 3d feature, but theyre basically the same. id say build quality on 2ds xl and 3ds xl is identical. i got a 3ds xl brand new for $99 AUD, so at such a low price, id go for the 3d version, even if you dont care much about the 3d feature. i dont see why you wouldnt wawnt 3d though, it is basically the whole point/gimmick of the 3ds. the resolution is an absolute joke by todays standards, but the 3d effect is pretty neat on games that use it well.

youre going to have to pay a lot of money for a brand new 1000 (oled) model. they havent made them in ages so mint condition ones have a huge price tag. i saw a brand new white oled vita for like $700 yesterday. the only thing better about them is the screen, which really is fucking gorgeous. the colours pop so well and it just really does look fantastic.
the 2000 (slim) model is what i would buy (i already have both). it has about an extra hour of battery (for about 6 hours), is more comfortable to hold due to revised form factor and its about 20% lighter, has a normal micro usb port (original oled model uses proprietary port). the lcd screen isnt bad at all, its just not as nice as the oled model. youll also be able to find a brand new 2000 model for much, much cheaper.

yeah. if youre not sure how much youll use the thing, just get a 2nd hand oled with a memory card for like $80 somewhere. but, yeah, for brand new, get the 2000 unless you find a really good deal on the oled (almost impossible to find).

I have 2 1000 oled vitas, neither of mine have that, the only thing is one of them when it's a black screen I see tiny less black dots, but it has to be on a loading screen that is all black and it is barely noticeable.

Admittedly I don't know how threads fared a few months after launch. I'm mostly talking about when I came back. I picked up my vita when it released and then immediately went on deployment the day after christmas from then until 9 months from then. And then again for 6 months after 4 months.
