As someone who was around in 2011 and all threads talked about was how the more powerful system with the larger higher resolution screen was going to absolutely analy rape the 3DS with its shitty gimmick screen and $250 price tag, all I have to say is
Nintendo Switch is WINNING and there's nothing So(ny)cucks can do about it
Justin Jenkins
Pretty much dead is still better than 300 units a week in the US
Jaxson Campbell
I thought this happened ages ago?
Dominic Martinez
the 2011 shitposting against the 3DS was insane. If only everyone knew what was to come
Liam Williams
>I thought this happened ages ago?
In the U.S. It was still being made in Japan. It's 100% dead now.
Julian Moore
Discontinued is not dead. If shitposting is to be believed the Vita has been dead since it came out, since that's all people had to say, yet now it's "dead for real" this time? Despite everyone's concerted best efforts it ran its course anyway and shall continue to just as it has been.
What comes next for it is a different discussion, regardless of it being made anymore.
Mason Nelson
If you think that was bad you should have seen PSP vs DS. PSP was actually a decent handheld too, yet the DS dicked it even harder than 3DS did Vita.
Benjamin Anderson
>3DS is pretty much dead too Sure, but it was successful and it's dead because it got a successor, Vita was quickly killed off by Sony discontinuing their whole handheld line. That it's only ended production now is misleading since they had been producing extremely few units for years.
Jayden Williams
But 2 MH games were announced for the 3DS before Vita was even released. Capcom really made sure everybody knows that MH won't be coming to the Vita before it even came out. So there's nothing to shitpost about the 3DS in 2011.
what was to come retarded nintendoid? 3ds and switch have no games and the few they have are utter shit and garbage
Kayden Sullivan
>and all threads talked about was how the more powerful system with the That never happened. Vita threads never lasted more than a few minutes and they were shitposted endlessly about "no games" and "no monster hunter" and tons of people talking about how the only games were shit, or how bad Silent HIll Book of Memories was
It was next to impossible to actually discuss the Vita at all. Or the endless shitposting when "Sony Smash" came out. And I know this because I too was around in 2011 and I made more than a few threads specifically for Muramasa each time it got new DLC. The last DLC released of the 4 got exactly 12 replies before it died.
There were more threads about the playstation TV than the fucking vita. And only because you could pick one up for like 20 bucks.
Fuck you.
Robert Morris
I'm a wizard
Blake James
For those who don't know, Sony literally tagged their Playstation All Stars game with #super smash bros and variants of that as the first tag. It was not shit posting, it was extremely deserved for what wound up being such a shitty game.
Christian Cox
might have been fine if not for those proprietary memory cards
Jordan Parker
those stupid sticks did nothing but slingshot the vita into undesirability. And it was really frustrating seeing them double down on that bad decision all because they didn't want to have psp tier pirating.
Parker Morales
after it all it was mostly security through obscurity the memory cards apparently run a standard exfat partition with maybe some security in between, but the homebrew community made microsd adapters that now function exactly like memory cards (through the game slot or 3G connector). it was a security measure on its surface, but backed only by personal interests. it was different in the ps2/gc days since everyone rolled their own mcs, psp was okayish since it didn't lock down the cards nor was the ds really pushing a competitor.
Christopher Cruz
>colin moriarty Daily reminder this is the guy that gave Fallout 3 a good review if Bethesda put him in the game
Robert Brooks
>Vita flopped, library is pretty much on the same tier as the 3DS library >PSP sold about half of DS, had a superior library
Caleb Scott
The most funny thing was that half of his post was literally shitting on 3ds for having no games while claiming otherwise for the vita
Jaxon Walker
Do you think Sony will shut down the PS Vita's store soon? I'm thinking about getting Persona 4 Golden and some PS1/PSP games I missed out on but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Aaron Stewart
Are they finally releasing the 3.69 hack now? I bought one with that firmware and it's pretty much bricked because I'm never going to buy fucking games for it.
Brandon Bennett
theflow says "in 2019"
presumably soon now that it is officially discontinued but who knows
Jaxson Martin
They could have released ported PS3 games onto there but instead it was turned into a weeb machine. I would have loved to play Motorstorm on the go or even CoD if it wasn't gimped for literally no reason.
Charles Sanders
Enjoy your porn VNs, user.
Brandon Foster
PS Vita + Henkaku + Nonpdrm + SD2Vita + Retroarch + Adrenaline = All good Vita games and the best emulation experience
Michael Allen
Nah, the ps3 store is still up
Alexander Perez
got my vita in 2016, 3DS was more popular and i enjoy it just as much but I really like the Vita, i hope the store is at least accessible for awhile on it, gonna start collecting any hard copies I can for it soon before prices get jacked up. Sony really dug its own grave with it, i think its library wasn't as varied as the PSP but its still a nice contrast to the 3DS and that's all it ever needed to be
Luke Carter
>console war shit
Dude fuck off poorfag. I have a vita and a 3DS and enjoy both. It always amazes me that to browse Yea Forums you likely have to consider gaming a hobby yet limit yourself bh only buying one system.
I would be sad that the Vita is dead and buried but now that the switch hasbecome a much better portable weeb machine I couldn't care less about the Vita anymore
I'm a early 3DS and late PSV owner and I will never understand how it failed. The library is pretty great, decent graphics, not too pricey, nice interface a great retro game library. What the fuck happened?
Adam Garcia
craigslist, pawn shops, chinese ebay like tabao
Brody Jenkins
Memory cards happened
Nolan Hernandez
>Discontinued is not dead. I guess Wii U is alive and well then.
Evan Bell
>Memory cards happened Oh yeah... Forgot about that detail.
Michael Ward
>the Vita was supposed to outlive the 3ds! what will we do sony bros?! OH NO NO NO HAHAAHAHAHAHAHA
Soýcucks BTFO ALL DAY ERRDAY
Luke Miller
so is sony going to make another handheld?
Julian Hughes
most likely not. smartphones took over the mobile gaming market and nintendo holds a monopoly on proprietary gaming handhelds.
Connor Thomas
lol no
Carter Watson
And WiiU was supposed to steamroll the PS4 and not only crashed harder than the Dreamcast but the Vita outsold it and outlived it
So once again Nintendo lost
Grayson Reed
Honestly, it’s kind of scarier that eight years has passed.
Tyler Hernandez
>Vita lasted 8 years with zero support >HAHA VITAFAGS BTFO
PlayStation Trinity was going to be another Vita model, but Sony decided to make it a full-blown successor.
Brandon Green
did you forget about the wii u Yea Forums said it would rape the shit out of PS4 and what happened with that
Ian Hall
it's a shame but its for the best. Sony gave up on the Vita to focus fully on the PS4 and now it's the dominant home console. Just like Nintendo gave up on the Wii U to focus on the Switch and now it's the dominant handheld console.
Colton Nelson
Nintendo Switch is not good enough for you?
Nicholas Evans
Just have to ask the right people instead of a hivemind bent on making everything that doesn't align with them dead.
Ryan Bell
Not OP but >did you forget about the wii u Yes
Adam Peterson
Monster Hunter
Thomas Allen
>did you forget about the wii u Wii WHO?
Brayden Jones
Technically the Vita was discontinued since 2016. NA/EU stores did not receive any new shipments since then. Even when you order a Vita from Amazon they import it from Japan but it's okay since Vita is a region free device.
Sebastian Hill
>PlayStation Trinity what's that?
Matthew Morris
did you forget about the xbox one?
Carter Mitchell
Haha whatever you say
Colton Wilson
as much as the UMD's were an abomination i miss the PSP. it was a serviceable internet browser before the advent of smartphones with its screen. i remember before they patched in support for one that you had to fiddle with wipeout pure in order to access a janky bootleg browser.
Sebastian Ross
Remember all the shitposting about the 3ds’ 3-5 hour battery life and just how hard sonyfriends backpeddled when the vita was announced to have the SAME exactly battery life? Lmao, so goddamn funny. Sony shitposters don’t even understand batteries.
Angel Sanchez
back then the library of the 3ds was shit though.
Robert Nguyen
PSP started my porn addiction by allowing me to bring it anywhere from school, trips, etc.
Matthew Perry
>doing more and doing it better on the same battery life sony btfo
Jaxson Thomas
>It took nearly eight years for some to discontinue the Vita >Meanwhile the Wii U lasted barely four Not sure what you're laughing at here.
>nintendo killed the vita with the 3ds >nintendo killed the wii u with the switch
not sure why the wii u's death is so funny to sonnybunnys
Andrew Anderson
Nintendo was forced to discontinue it early because gamepad costs and having to have someone else fab proprietary large gb discs that weren't bluray was adding up a lot.
Alexander Long
I too like spinning the narrative to favor Nintendo Sony killed the Vita and the Wii U
Eli Flores
What games are still exclusive to the Vita that are worth playing?
Sebastian Morgan
>Nintendo was forced to discontinue it early because gamepad costs Yeah it totally wasnt because they were gathering dust in the shelves Also I thought Nintendo had a lot of money and they neved lost money with hardware?
Joseph Ortiz
>Yeah it totally wasnt because they were gathering dust in the shelves exactly. if they aren't selling then they're losing money. >Also I thought Nintendo had a lot of money and they neved lost money with hardware? Wii U was the exception, they were losing money on it between unsold software and unsold hardware. Also like any public traded business they have shareholders to cater to and if they lose money then their stock drops and they lose shareholder trust.
Kayden Davis
They're mostly weeb anime titty panty quest games and as soon as I list them somebody will chime in saying doesn't count. However, if you're asking in the hopes of picking up a Vita, do your own research (and PS1/PSP on the go) and if you're up to it you may be surprised.
"The" exclusive though is Persona 4 Golden. I hope they bring it to PC.
Sebastian Price
Shiren the Wanderer, Killzone Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice
Juan Flores
You have any source for these claims?
Andrew Price
LMAO WHAT A SHIT "HANDHELD"
Ryder Peterson
Yet it can fit in your pocket.
Chase Howard
lmao yeah right dont get your panties in a bunch
Xavier Moore
Really dug deep for that response, didn't you?
Jason Thomas
>Making like half a million systems a year that barely just about sell in japan just because >Haha #winning!
Adam Young
Is anyone else sad that the handheld era is officially over? Some of my best memories consisted of playing my GBA and DS in bed, grinding through Pokemon or Battle Network or Golden Sun at 2 AM and feeling absolutely comfy. You can't do that anymore. The Switch is too big to play in bed and the battery doesn't last long at all.
Sebastian Flores
But in 2011 it was true. Nintendo shat themselves and had to quickly announce a price cut, hand out GBA games, rush MK7 out half finished and then release the 3DS XL just to stay relevant. But then Sony decided to ignore the thing so the 3DS had no competition after that.
Connor Foster
Nope, 3DS killed the Vita. Sony had no part in it.
Samuel Rogers
Is there even a single reason to buy vita if you're not into weebshit? Besides emulation.
Lincoln Walker
>why the wii u's death is so funny >Nintendofags thought PS4 would crash like the PS3 did at the start and WiiU would be like the Wii in terms of success >Go out of their way to spread a million rumors about games that never came to existance and how the WiiU had a backup power that rivaled a normal PC >meanwhile in real like WiiU trips on itself and PS4 goes straight to the top
He never said that though, he just said it lasted almost a decade with no 1st party support which its impressive
Ryan Cruz
ps2 ports
Brandon Baker
3DS and Vita both had shit battery life.
John Myers
3DS was long enough for me on a full charge. And even if it weren't, the console isn't so cumbersome that I can't play with it plugged in. That's almost impossible with the Switch, between it being fucking huge, hard to hold, and with the worst charger port location.
Isaiah Rivera
classic
Michael Rodriguez
>handheld era is officially over Huh no its not, apparently Sony is still wanting their hands in the handheld market and you are retarded to think Nintendo isn't going to do a 3DS successor.
Asher Rivera
The Vita could have been something worthwhile if it wasn't riddled with useless gimmicks which would have cut the cost down drastically.
>Gut the rear touch panel >Gut the gyro >Gut the retarded fucking idea of proprietary memory cards, which in fact increases costs as you're now the sole manufacturer of these specific cards
Sony MADE regular Micro SD cards, so what the fuck was the point of a unique memory card for the Vita?
security through obscurity which amounted to nothing since homebrew now enables microsd cards
Henry Sanders
One thing for sure is that Vita's sleep mode beats the shit out of 3DS sleep mode multiple times over. Vita can last more than a week in sleep mode on a single charge, 3DS at most is 3-4 days. Also when the Vita reaches 0% it saves whats stored in RAM to a partition and when it receives power again it resumes where you left off kinda like Hibernate mode on your PC.
William Anderson
you dont deserve a well thought out response
Evan Wilson
>3DS successor already exists
Dominic Butler
Nor does your response and original claim have any merit to it. "Same", kid.
Michael Cook
>As someone who was around in 2011 and all threads talked about was how the more powerful system with the larger higher resolution screen was going to absolutely analy rape the 3DS with its shitty gimmick screen and $250 price tag
Anyone who thought this would happen after the DS destroyed the PSP was retarded,
Landon Peterson
Sonylets... when will they learn?
Ryan Young
3ds was pretty much "retarded gimmicks" the console and it succeeded.
Sony just needed too give it good games like they did with the psp.
Lucas Reed
>Sonylets... when will they learn? Learn that your a tranny dick sucker? just did with your post.
David Nelson
It could have. It's an amazing handheld, literally set the bar, but Sony didn't support it and Nintendo had to undercut it HARD by fucking every single person that bought a 3DS day 1, which was ridiculous.
Had Sony actually made games for the fucking thing and got more third parties on board it would have destroyed the 3DS.
Cameron Sullivan
well psp was probably the only handheld that even came close to rivaling nintendo on that market.
Wyatt Rodriguez
The thing is Nintendo can get away with silly gimmicks because it's expected of them. Everybody is always wondering "what dumbass feature will these Nips come up with next?"
With Sony, it's never felt natural. Change for the sake of copying others. The PS4 was successful because they want back to "it's a brick that plays games, that's it." Well, mostly anyway besides the light bars on the controllers.
Anthony Lee
Vita was doomed to fail anyways, smartphones started to take over and Nintendo slashed the price of 3DS almost in half just months before Vita's launch.
Jaxson Jackson
The PSP/V and even PS4 sleep mode is super underrated in general
It makes games with savesystems like Yakuza almost feel modern, just put the game to sleep and boot up tomorrow in the exact same spot
Blake Fisher
Don't forget when the 3DS is low it has a fucking light show party with its LEDs, killing the battery faster.
James Taylor
Also Monster Hunter 3G literally came out on 3DS a week before Vita.
Charles Ward
They also slashed the price weeks after the console came out and gave you nothing but a few GBA roms for it. I've never been fucked so hard by a company before.
Lucas Bailey
Did Capcom find it easier to asset flip a PSP game instead of doing something new on Vita?
Samuel Nguyen
>Saltmines.jpg
Dylan Foster
Never got vita but have psp. Maybe a weird thing to whine about, but sony sort of tried to make console games on a handheld while nintendo made handheld games for handheld. If that makes any sense. A lot of times I felt like I'd rather play this on a ps3 or something. But maybe that's why they ported a lot of those games for consoles later on. But that's a very opinion based complaint.
Xavier Carter
>not owning a switch and a ps4
What are you, poor?
Grayson Campbell
At least Sony was ahead of the curve since people are eating the same idea up now with the Switch. They had some alternatives though. PSP had video out (and became the controller), PSP Go had a video out dock and could pair with a PS3 controller wirelessly. Vita was a relative powerhouse and had planned video out, but was scrapped in favor of PSTV (which is much better executed imo but they could have kept the video out).
Jace Bennett
I remember the complaints about the 2ds and that shit sold like hotcakes. Yea Forums is always wrong.
Dominic Stewart
>Mobile posters trying to argue.
Xavier Anderson
The Monster Hunter series is basically asset flip the IP. They've reused the same models and animations from PS2 to PSP to Wii to Wii U to 3DS to Switch.
Isaiah Fisher
>takes almost an hour to come up with a counter-argument >its a non-valid one kek
Alexander Martinez
Yea I guess so. Have the launch model which I don't think has video out. Might remember wrong. It was still a nice little machine for it's time. Especially when the homebrew stuff was rolling out.
Juan Ward
What's a good pricerange for these things nowadays
Logan Cox
I wish Vanillaware just ported Muramasa's retranslation from this dead shitty console to modern gen.
Grayson Anderson
Lads is it still worth getting a ps vita in 2019? There are a few Jrpgs that I want to play there like Trails, Tales of Hearts, or Oreshika. Also other games like Gravity rush or Danganronpa V3. What is it a decent price to pay for it? is it easy to hack for someone who has no idea about it?
not him, but me I wouldn't mind getting a ps4, but I will probably move a couple of times and it takes too much space to move from one part to another,it is not practical
Dylan Flores
depends on where you live, what model, what condition its in, is it hackable?
Jason Robinson
>Lads is it still worth getting a ps vita in 2019? No. If you held out this long you shouldn't bother. Most of the exclusives it had got ported elsewhere. It's not getting any future game announcements or any upcoming as of yet unannounced releases. Not even joking, everyone both east and west have moved on to Switch, PS4 or PC. Trails, Gravity Rush and DRv3 are all on other platforms. Hearts R is pretty good and Oreshika is sorta weird and hit or miss. If you don't have a big list of Vita exclusives you want your time and money is better spent on getting a PS4 or upgrading your PC.
Ryan Perez
There's also PSP and PS1 games.
>is it easy to hack for someone who has no idea about it? Piss easy that's about to get even piss easier thanks to it being fully blown open. Be sure to buy an sd2vita card adapter so you can use regular memory cards instead of sony's shitty overpriced ones
Landon Price
>do you have any sources on whether unsold software and hardware loses a company money?
Galaxy brainlet
Carson Powell
The price is only going to go up from here.
Hacking it is easy as long as its on the right firmware, but I don't think firmware will matter for long.
Dominic Sullivan
>tfw you missed the $30 PSTVs
Gabriel Cook
Unless they find a way to make a Nintendo Switch-like sistem that's stronger AND cheaper than it, nope
Carson Murphy
Is it the same guy that made a special youtube video after January Nintendo conference about how Switch will fail ?
Angel Long
it was $20 at one point
in hindsight people should have scalped them while they were that low because they can easily flip them for $100+
tfw got the bundle with PS3 controller (left analog now ghosting), 8GB mc (now dead/corrupted beyond repair), and lego movie game (irrelevant cuz piracy) for $50
Joseph Johnson
FUCK YOU THE 3DS COULDN'T HAVE COME OUT IN 2011, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE! IM NOT OLD! IM NOT OLD!
based snoy making sure all vita weeaboo titty titles will be released on something that's not PS4
Owen Hughes
I bought a hacked oled model for $140, did I get ripped off?
Henry Davis
Good thing Spike Chunsoft is loyal to Sony. I don't ever wanna see Danganrompa even close to the Switch
Jeremiah Reyes
how to fix the vita >cut the retarded back touch panel >go for IPS from the beginning to save on costs >allow micro SD cards as main storage method >allow multiple PSN accounts on 1 system >don't cut first party support after the 1st year >sell it at 200$ or less basically that's it, they could've easily prevented this, it still wouldn't sell as much as the 3DS but it would've been better than this
So when this shovelware comes to the Switch AND Steam and the sales are STILL dogshit, can we finally admit that the Vita had NO games worth playing?
Easton White
Yes. I think all the way up to the latest update, they were cracked and can run all the other handheld games on it. From PSP/3ds/nds/ps1/n64/ps2/etc.
Tyler Morales
Risk of rain on the bus on this thing is ultra comfy. If you can find 10 games you can be fucked replaying then cracking the system, pirating them all and dumping them on sd2vita is worth it.
Benjamin Sanders
>>Go out of their way to spread a million rumors about games that never came to existance and how the WiiU had a backup power that rivaled a normal PC Oh fuck I remember that. There was a point for like a month where people genuinely thought there was some shit in the Wii U that devs could just unlocked that would make it twice as powerful.
Nicholas Gomez
Did people SERIOUSLY think Vita would have outsold the 3DS when it had POKEMON? Its pretty much fact Nintendo has won every single handheld generation, and that sure ain't changing anytime soon.
Sony making the Vita's memory cards proprietary was a given, they pulled the same shit with the PSP Go and other devices, but why didn't they lower the price? Surely they were aware that making them overpriced was turning people away from the Vita?
Did Sony intentionally sabotage the Vita to make the PS4 more successful?
Jaxon Evans
Don't forget Hanlon's razor
Cameron Fisher
didn't the older psps have sony memory cards as well? well okay at least those were used in cameras and phones as well
Robert Jackson
usually people that sell "prehacked" systems add their own tax onto it. which is stupid since vita can be hacked in like 10 minutes, it's not like xbox 360 where someone actually put in the work installing a mod chip and shit.
Chase Garcia
You didn't have to use Sony's memory cards in the PSP, you could use other cards or adapters.
Jose Phillips
memory sticks, but they were big enough that they could be forged as microsd adapters the vita community had to get creative and stick the microsds in the gamecard slot or 3g adapter port (and required homebrew to remap them to the memory card)
Nolan Campbell
aa okay. it was just so long ago. just remember duo or pro duo or something like that. but i guess there might have been adapters available from the beginning.
Michael Thompson
it's more like un-updated tax than anything else, and all people who don't give a shit about piracy will have updated consoles
Jeremiah Moore
Surprisingly people think hardware sells consoles instead of games
Jaxson Phillips
it's really not hard to find a vita that's not on the latest firmware, any vita before that is hackable.
you'd have a point though if this was still 2016 when the only hackable vita firmware was 3.60 and nothing else.
Liam Sanchez
Nintendo is basically god at this point.
Blake Richardson
not hard to be when you have no competition
the gaming industry is a fucking wreck
Luke Lopez
>At least Sony was ahead of the curve No, they weren't
People would have bought the Vita if it had games people wanted
The Switch has games people want
That's all there is to it
Ryder Turner
not everyone lives in USA/JP, here Vitas are rare and Henkaku'd console go for extra $60
Luke Peterson
Does this apply to its online store too or is this about unit production?
Justin Lewis
you can always import it you know. unless you live somewhere in bumfuck africa jungle that can't be shipped there or it costs more than the device itself for shipping.
Jaxson Lewis
Unit production.
Austin Hill
Sonyfan since PS1 here,
Sony has basically nothing now. They really dropped the ball, must be because they thought they could do nothing and just coast to high profits only to be overthrown by Nintendo.
Adrian Kelly
Where's that super-ultimate Vita hack that will render all the system's defenses useless? I heard it was coming upon the discontinuation of the Vita...
Aiden Cox
>why didn't they lower the price? probably because they were already selling the Vita at loss and the memory cards were that overpriced to make-up for that.
that's the opposite of Nintendo's strategy of selling overpriced hardware, 3DS was $250 at release
Luis Smith
you mean f00d hack? people blew that out of proportion. it was so people could reverse engineer the vita better, not suddenly create a ultimate hack that gives you keys to everything.
Jaxon Stewart
He means theflow0's hack.
Michael Campbell
It's hilarious seeing sony fags BTFO, years of defending the Vita and tricking people into buying a dead handheld. While nobody on Yea Forums liked the 3DS, it's funny to see all the sony faggots get destroyed.
Evan Myers
>Nintendo's strategy of selling overpriced hardware For what it is Nintendo's hardware is usually reasonably priced.
Nicholas Anderson
Do you want a list? It's a pretty long list.
Austin Howard
oh well that's still in development. it's supposed to come out in 2019 but no idea when. could be tomorrow, could be december 31st.
Carter Lopez
Switch its more expensive than both Xbone and PS4 and doesnt have half of the features
Dylan Jenkins
He's waiting for the final Vita firmware update to release it since the Vita is so secure that if they updated it again the system will forever be locked. This way all future Vitas will be hackabale for decades to come.
Luis Phillips
>Wanted to buy one ahead of time for the inevitable hacking and CFW >199 Canadian when it was new and cad/usd was almost equal >Never got around to it >Now $400+ each because they're discontinued in the west and the Canadian dollar fell hard
>Next gen console is more expensive than 5 year old last gen console
WOW NO SHIT SHERLOCK
Nathaniel Kelly
It's gonna be a long time then. PS3 was discontinued back in 2017 if I can recall and they still released a update in like 2018 just to stop a hack.
Jackson Campbell
How will anyone know when that happens, though? What makes a specific update "the last"?
Isaac Gonzalez
I just updated my PS3 last week so it's still getting updates.
Noah Howard
$250 Wii and $250 definitely weren't reasonably priced
no wonder they managed to slash like 1/3 of the 3DS price when the system was struggling in the market
Chase Gray
Hard to tell which is why he's playing it safe.
Carter Sanchez
>$250 $250 3DS
Justin Wright
Idiotic way of handling data storage, and zero games that appeal to Reddit, is what killed the Vita.
Cooper Allen
>overpriced memory cards had nothing to do with the vita's failure
Logan Long
Persona 5 Golden. I'd say Steins;Gate/0 but they have PS4 versions and are visual novels.
Evan Powell
Yes, they were. See, I can do it too.
Caleb Reyes
import from taobao, they sell vitas for cheap. shipping will take forever though.
Liam Richardson
>3DS successor That would be the Switch
Nathaniel Wright
I'm mocking
Austin Hernandez
Pokemon. That shit's what made the gameboy so popular and the sole reason Nintendo didn't abandon portables.
Ryan Hall
PSP did relatively well in spite of proprietary memory. Xbox 360 did well in spite of proprietary memory. Every console before then had proprietary memory cards for saves and did well in spite of it. Vita failing wasn't because of the memory cards. Hardware and software not selling are what killed it.
Josiah Price
You probably meant 4, and 99% of Spike Chunsoft games are also on Steam including S;G+0.
Lucas Thomas
>Tales of Hearts Fun combat but honestly one of the worst casts. The other Triverse game is Japan-exclusive and there the whole Triverse plotline was never resolved.
Logan Perez
To be fair, the 3DS is absolute trash anyways, so yeah. The Switch is carrying on that trash legacy with nogames.
Bentley Ward
>no wonder they managed to slash like 1/3 of the 3DS price when the system was struggling in the market Yeah and they sold it at a loss for a while.
Carter Rivera
>Hardware and software not selling are what killed it. Which were due to Sony meaning is still wrong. Hardware wise, Sony gave Jew tier memory cards and in software they never made a push to get lots of games on it.
Mason Turner
I was mocking
Anthony Peterson
PSP had plentiful micro SD adaptors. 360 didn't need much memory. Unlike the PS3, game installs were rarely mandatory.
Dylan Gonzalez
The Switch is literally just shitty ports though.
Lincoln Wright
>That shit's what made the gameboy so popular Tetris made the Game Boy popular. Pokemon made the Game Boy Color popular as the American release coincided with with the GBC's release there.
Parker Wright
The vita was dead the moment they announced AT&T lol. The E3 conference literally boo'd out loud.
Then after launch it turned out if you paid for the Cell service, you couldn't actually use it to play games online lol
Luis Ortiz
360 also had expandable storage via USB. Was actually nice until I got an HDD. Still the proper way is the proprietary HDD.
Andrew Davis
>no competition As much as Yea Forums memes, smartphones are pretty big competition to get over. Basically everyone has one and they get "free" upgrades to the latest and greatest every other year through carriers. And they can all run fortnite and minecraft too as well as the casual sucking puzzle and gacha games laden with microtransactions. Convincing 30+ Million people so far to spend 300 dollarydoos for a separate piece of hardware as well as $60 per game when they all have what they'd consider the "default" gaming hardware is nothing to just brush aside.
Isaiah Perry
You do realize that the Switch could be supported for the next 5 years, and it will still never top PS4's total worldwide sold units, right?
Noah Russell
>Tetris made the Game Boy popular Semantics, Red and Blue saved it.
Cooper Cook
DOESN'T MATTER NINTENDOMATION #1 GET FUCKED TANNEN SQUARES
Nathan Long
So is the Vita going to be the next Dreamcast / Saturn in terms of collectability? Should I buy all the OLED versions off craigslist now or forever hold my peace?
This 3DS had all the big portable franchises along with Nintendo 1st party ones like Pokemon yet still hasnt come close to outselling the PSP You have to be delusional if you dont believe smartphones have taken a lot of marketshare from the mobile/handheld area
Bentley Martinez
I bought a first gen vita with the OLED meme and have been nothing but disappointed with the piece of shit. The screen bleeding is AWFUL and Sonys response was "OLED bleeding is normal! You can only see it on black screens!" You mean, EVERY LOADING SCREEN EVER?
Brandon Martin
Should I pay a GBC flashcart or a hackable Vita? Retroarch always bothered me because it doesn't save if you close via the home menu
David Anderson
So this is the power of autism and Mountain Dew huh? Woah. Totally badass(??)
If you only buy games to collect them like ancient artifacts, you might be a redneck... I mean cancer. You might be cancer.
Jackson Scott
>screen bleeding I've never noticed this ever. I guess I'll have to actually sit down and do comparisons later tonight when I play more Shiren.
Lucas Russell
When Nintendo says jump I say "No. Skip the foreplay and fuck me in the ass!"
Christian Mitchell
Vita is great at PS1, PSP emulation 3DS is great at Nintendo emulation from NES, SNES to all the gameboys and DS
Depends on what you plan to play DESU, a GBC flashcart would definitely be a better experience for GBC games than emulation alone.
Lucas Foster
Ok. Good talk little buddy. I'm really glad we did this.
Angel Morales
yeah I don't know what they were thinking with the 3G model. You could just do 4G LTE tether from your phone to your vita which would not only be faster but cheaper.
Michael Reed
>The Switch has games people want yes, those Wii U games, yet the Wii U flopped
Switch is selling well because of the spot-on marketing, just like the Wii
Evan Hill
4G wasnt widespread and consumer devices back then had two versions with one of them having cellular sim cards for using your device on the internet.
However, WIFI was too common to use it and phones were way too simple to use that it's a unnecessary and useless feature.
Logan Harris
I prefer Vita for emulation. Better screen, better controls, better hardware power to push upscaling or filters.
Anthony Rodriguez
Amount sold is rather hollow to me when it's attached to a platform I no longer love.
Isaac Gomez
>better controls I would take a circle pad or PSP nub on a handheld any day of the week. The vita could not fit in your pocket because of those stupid fucking sticks! Are they better? Probably. Do they make the machine non-portable? Yeah, and for a portable system thats a fucking deal breaker.
Asher Allen
They're fragile, too. You definitely want to put the console in a case. This is the advantage of a clamshell design.
Ian Campbell
I prefer the vita d-pad for 2D games any day over any handheld. But your opinions may vary which is fine.
I honestly never had trouble fitting my OLED Vita in my pocket, but then again I mostly wear cargo shorts and regular jeans not skinny ones.
Ethan Lee
I can't speak for other regions but here in the US LTE was already fully adopted by multiple carriers by late 2011 and the Vita was released in 2012. I remember my HTC One X had LTE and tethering back in 2012.
Julian Hill
i have an oled original vita and an orange slim and a vita tv. i have a 32gb and a 64gb memory card and im still tempted to buy another vita now that production has ended, but new ones are so fucking expensive. theyre only to go up in price, though, so i still want another one for backup. in my opinion, its far and away the best handheld ever made. idsay you should definitely grab a second hand oled model if youre interested. if you dont like japanese games, though, you might not care for it. if you have good taste, on the other hand, youll probably love it. some must haves: p4g dj max technika tune all the vanillaware games trails 1 and 2 ninja gaiden sigma 1 and 2 (2 doesnt run too well but i still finished it and had fun) ys celceta soul sacrifice tales of hearts r some very good dungeon crawlers like demon gaze, stranger sword city and dungeon travelers monkey ball vita is surprisingly great
the "vita nogeams" meme blows me away, but i get that a lot of people dont like the kind of games available for it. i have a 3ds and a switch as well, and i think vita is better than both as a handheld. WAY better build quality and screen then the 3ds and has double the battery of a switch.
Its not that it didn't physically fit in my jeans, its that it make a pocket that fit keys and wallets just fine super tight, and the sticks would bend. If I ever had to stretch my legs it would put more pressure on the sticks. I hated it. I never had a single complaint about the psp nub and just could not fathom why they changed it. At least do something where the sticks pop in and out for storage vs play?
Tyler Ramirez
>The vita could not fit in your pocket because of those stupid fucking sticks! wat
Alexander Anderson
you mean the green looking mura effect? that's not screen bleeding or burn in. that's just how old OLEDs were depending on which batch you got. Some had none, some had a few, some had it very fucking bad. It was like a lotto, just like how you had a random chance of getting a TN panel 3DS or a IPS panel 3DS.
Thomas Sanchez
The 3DS dropped its price with the Iwata ambassador program. I think it was around the time Iwata slashed his salary in half and made a public apology. Then OoT, Pokemon and MONSTER HUNTER came out and the rest is history.
Jonathan Smith
>3DS is an unusable piece of shit just like the DS but at least it SOLD
LMAO indeed. I don't think even the bigger library can save those shitty handhelds, the vita and PSP still had better libraries in the end imo. playing on a 3DS is like playing on a casio watch, a truly terrible experience.
I used a homebrew app to check which screen my 3DS has, and I have the shitty top AND bottom screen and still have no complaints compared to my Vita OLED
Xavier Bailey
Some phones had 4G back then. Most didn't, and the ones that did were the more expensive ones.
Ian Bennett
why does Japan (and china?) get all the good stuff?
Joshua Lewis
Getting Persona 4 Golden and Rayman Origins for my Vita. What are some good anime VNs/JRPG PSP games?
getting a TN/IPS doesn't really matter. you can have either but you may have a unlucky bad batch that has piss yellow colors or dead pixels. it's all part of the production process. Old OLEDs are just more susceptible because the technology was new at the time compared to LCD.
Parker Foster
like most people in this thread(and everywhere) know, vita failed hard in the west but it was pretty popular in asia. i was in korea last year and saw a few people playing vita on the train. there are A LOT of japan/asia only games on vita that no one bothered to publish in the west because of perceived lack of interest in the machine.
Julian Smith
I'd be more understanding if Sony and Gamestop didn't go tell me to go pound sand about it. My Wii U had some dead pixels and Nintendo replaced it
Colton Walker
Since this is a handheld thread, should I get a NEW 3DS XL or NEW 2DS XL because my old 2DS was stolen. I'm gonna homebrew and emulate everything.
Evan Bell
Dungeon Travelers 2
Luke Thompson
Sony have already discontinued cart and vita production and ended ps plus support. Do you think they'll shut down the store too soon?
Nicholas Rivera
Are you actually bragging that Nintendo hardware is 9 years old?
Liam Kelly
doubt it, psp games still live on through the web store
Adam Moore
Atlus needs to port P4G out of the vita like right now
Luis Taylor
if you dont care about 3D, n2DS XL, n3DS XL otherwise.
Nathan Robinson
Hopefully straight to PC.
Ian Lewis
theyre exactly the same except 3ds xl has (you guessed it) 3d. doesnt matter. i doubt it. im sure all the vita games are stored on the same servers as their ps3/4 catalogue, and they still let you download psp games on the store.
Mason Adams
I'm sorry to hear that but it is what it is. Sony should have covered people that experienced very bad mura effects on their Vita's as it can get downright disgusting like pic related if you were unlucky.
Or the PlayStation Classic vs. the NES and Super NES Classics.
Ayden Cruz
That would be perfect
Isaac Bailey
golden is obviously the superior game, but if you really want to play p4, just emulate the ps2 version.
Julian Foster
It would be a bigger upset than P5 on PC which is already well playable with RPCS3. P5fags couldn't even get mad since they're P5fags, they would out themselves.
Jeremiah Brooks
I can't play hardware with ports and weebshit lost to hardware with an endless slew of good games.
Jaxson Fisher
I finished it on the emulator but P4G got some great stuff and quality of life things so i hope they port it somewhere P5fags can just suck it, P5 is fine on RPCS3
Adam Carter
>read 999 >thought it was fun wanna read VLR >order a Vita because I forgot it was on NIGGER for a brief moment to FUCKING NIGGER >NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIIGER NI G G ER?
PS3 was discontinued 2 years ago and the store is still up. Even if they shut down the store, the download servers will remain up just like PSP. All you need to do is access your download list on your device which is not apart of the store but in your account management menu or remote downloading from a PC.
Jordan Bell
I'm baffled that they didn't port it over to the PS4 with Persona 5's success. It would've been easy money.
Hudson Carter
I mean if we compare PS4 sales to WiiU and 3DS they both lose even combined Also to be supported long after Sony gave up on it makes it sting even more
Hudson Wood
I read about battery life being worse on the 2DS and build quality being better on the 3DS while the 2DS XL is more comfortable to play in your hands.
Is there really no difference?
Eli Perez
knowing atlus (and a lot of smaller japanese devs), theyve probably lost the code or just cant afford to do it.
Camden Russell
Vita version was then superior. Might as well play them all on PC if you're not looking for portability or a GPD Win or something. If it's any consolation the Vita eventually got the 999 remake, for better or worse, while the 3DS didn't have an option and got nothing.
Aiden Williams
maybe it has to do with the model revisions. I have a new 3ds xl and it handles perfectly fine and lasts a while, but heard people complaining about the new 3ds xl having worse build quality than the new 2ds xl, so they probably improved build quality with newer models.
Caleb Bennett
NO THIS CAN'T BE REAL WHY HAS THE PC AND SHITCH BECOME THE NEW VITA?
John White
>while the 3DS didn't have an option and got nothing. user, what system did 999 come to initially?
Jaxon Wood
when did switch or pc get a d-pad as good as vita?
Christian Walker
i guess technically the 3ds xl will have like 30mins less battery life if youre using the 3d feature, but theyre basically the same. id say build quality on 2ds xl and 3ds xl is identical. i got a 3ds xl brand new for $99 AUD, so at such a low price, id go for the 3d version, even if you dont care much about the 3d feature. i dont see why you wouldnt wawnt 3d though, it is basically the whole point/gimmick of the 3ds. the resolution is an absolute joke by todays standards, but the 3d effect is pretty neat on games that use it well.
Charles Bailey
The Vita is nearly 8 years old. How have those shitty memory cards not gone down in price?
Isaiah Diaz
You sir are a poopyface.
Tyler Campbell
Because Sony hates you.
Josiah Bailey
Wow it's only been 8 years? Feels like 15 or so. Guess the PSP just bled over into the vita in my mind.
David Butler
if I'm willing to pay full price for an out if the box vita off amazon, what model should I be looking for? planning to hack it, since I've got nothing better to do with my tax returns
Mason Rivera
>S0nyggers trying to pass the buck as usual but only because they got BTFO and no longer have a shitposting leg to stand on Every time.
Jonathan Reyes
>planning to hack it Even when you hack it there's still no games to play. I know from experience don't make my mistake, go buy your mom a nice dinner or something she'll appreciate it.
Jackson Foster
>joke by todays standards Lets not pretend like we weren't gaming in HD when this system came out please
Camden Gonzalez
those led's consume a tiny fraction of the power the backlight uses. Literal non-issue.
Cameron Taylor
What the hell are you talking about? I gave up my sony status when sony started censoring shit and now own a switch.
This isn't console warring idiocy you reject.
Noah Mitchell
I mean, a portable emulator is always nice, since I haven't gotten around to building one of those MintyPi setups. and I've already set aside a large chunk to treat my family to dinner. I owe them that much, for helping me when my car went to shit
Evan Phillips
...
John Phillips
youre going to have to pay a lot of money for a brand new 1000 (oled) model. they havent made them in ages so mint condition ones have a huge price tag. i saw a brand new white oled vita for like $700 yesterday. the only thing better about them is the screen, which really is fucking gorgeous. the colours pop so well and it just really does look fantastic. the 2000 (slim) model is what i would buy (i already have both). it has about an extra hour of battery (for about 6 hours), is more comfortable to hold due to revised form factor and its about 20% lighter, has a normal micro usb port (original oled model uses proprietary port). the lcd screen isnt bad at all, its just not as nice as the oled model. youll also be able to find a brand new 2000 model for much, much cheaper.
Joshua Hill
so, 1000/oled if I can get it for a steal, 2000 otherwise? does the "wifi" in some of the listings matter? are those different models as well, or just amazon being extra with the listing names?
Bentley Perry
there's still a ton of worthwhile games to play on it. Even the vanilla DS has a fantastic library. Graphix fags leave REEEEEE
James Powell
He's right though, people here shit talked the Vita and ruined any thread about it If anyone is trying to be the victim after being told is the people who shilled the WiiU 24/7 here and thought any news surrounding it would kill the PS4
>1000/oled if I can get it for a steal, 2000 otherwise yeah. if youre not sure how much youll use the thing, just get a 2nd hand oled with a memory card for like $80 somewhere. but, yeah, for brand new, get the 2000 unless you find a really good deal on the oled (almost impossible to find). >does the "wifi" in some of the listings matter? all vitas have wifi. the reason they mention it is because some of the absolute original oled models came with 3g so you could play online and download stuff without being tethered to anything. this was kind of a failure, though, and was phased out very early. so some models will list 3g/wifi instead of just wifi.
Bentley Sanchez
just get a used 1000 OLED for 100ish bucks.
Henry Kelly
DUDE PORTABLE PS3 THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER OF A PS3 WILL DETHRONE THE KING OF PORTABLES I SWEAR
Julian Taylor
Dear god please end that poor vita's miserable life.
Have you EVEN SEEN the NeoGAF speculation threads on it's specs pre-release? Nincels were beyond delusional before reality exposed them.
Robert King
>Vita threads never lasted more than a few minutes and they were shitposted endlessly about "no games" and "no monster hunter" and tons of people talking about how the only games were shit, or how bad Silent HIll Book of Memories was That never happened in vita threads. You're thinking about. When Vitafags would invade threads about those games saying they would have been on the vita
Isaiah Lewis
I have 2 1000 oled vitas, neither of mine have that, the only thing is one of them when it's a black screen I see tiny less black dots, but it has to be on a loading screen that is all black and it is barely noticeable.
Jose Young
>PSP is going to destroy the DS >This time the PSVita will destroy the 3DS > . Uh uh the mobile market is dead no one will buy the switch > . Uh uh look at this wojaks Nintendo btfo
Aiden Brooks
Admittedly I don't know how threads fared a few months after launch. I'm mostly talking about when I came back. I picked up my vita when it released and then immediately went on deployment the day after christmas from then until 9 months from then. And then again for 6 months after 4 months.
> . Uh uh the mobile market is dead no one will buy the switch But the Switch is an hybrid
Jason Garcia
There are some games worth getting on the vita, or just get a Vita TV if you want something cheaper, granted that one wont play some Vita games. Don't forget P4 Golden
