I actually finished HL2 and the episodes again yesterday. HL2 vanilla can be improved a lot with the valve approved "remaster" mod. The episodes are fine in the default config. All three of them are much better than the zoomer hide-in-a-corner-until-you-magically-heal FPS trash that is today.

The bugbait level and the one where you need to cross the suspended bridge from below with the wind blowing in your ears are especially memorable.

I actually remember people complaining about HL2 giving them motion sickness back when the game was released. I think people attributed it to limited fov, so you play around with it.

I have replayed HL1 countless times while I have no desire to replay 2.
Do the old mods like SMOD even work anymore after Valve fucked shit up with their uneeded updates?
There is no proper unified offline release like for 1 unless you use certain patch level pirate releases which is a dice roll with mods.

I wanted to recap the story after reading some lore. I don't really like mods which alter gameplay, especially on games with already impeccable execution. I'll probably try it in a couple of months.

How the hell does a game as fluid and responsive as half life give you motion sickness? Don't give me any FOV crap reasons. I played it on 34in ultrawide monitor literally yesterday while trying different FOV levels and I found myself more in control than in any other "modern" game.

Half-Life 2 can still impress, Half-Life cannot. Both are still great and the first game had a bigger impact, but 2 is better and aged far better.
