*sets the speed to x8*

Does this shit get better?

I started it couple a day ago and it's a real fucking slog.
Just outside mines part of the game now.
I think I liked the setting and characters so far, but Vaan suddenly doing 180 with his relationship with Bosh came out of nowhere, and the set up for the prince character was retarded as fuck:
- "I overheard you guys are going into mines, I'll tag along too"
-"Sure"

Couple of first bosses were a joke too, just tap x4 speed and wait for it to end scenario.
I hope this gets better sometime soon.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHB BUNNY CUNNY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You either have taste and like the game or you don't

If you like the setting check out FFTA, it's the same setting but not absolutely ruined and drained of all life and personality.

>Let's Play FF XII

the best part of the game is definitely exploring and hunting for monsters, I highly suggest to do that

don't mind Vaan too much, the political plot is much more interesting than his personal story

here's your (You) now get the fuck out

Don't listen to Ondore's lies!

I was interested in Vagrant Story and from what I heard it takes place in the same universe as FFXII?

I'm Captain Bosch fon Ronsenberg of DALMASCA!

Kind of???
Ivalice is weird
FFT and Vagrant story take place in the same Ivalice setting

and

FFTA and FFXII take place in the same setting

now these are both the same setting apparently??? But they are very different.

FFT+VS= medieval setting with lots of churches and wars

FFTA+XII= more of a future fantasy type setting with lots of magical fantasy races, still lots of political warring.

this and X-2 are unironically the only ones in the series that i've played and could not finish, though i made it pretty far in XII
havent played XIII trilogy though

>mfw I literally just held forward for most of the game after getting enough gambit options

Attached: 1346462147135.jpg (402x572, 39K)

The only people who don't like Matsuno games are literal retards

I believe they don't take place at the same period of history. At least it's my own headcanon

I mean that's what I figured as well, but I've never been able to figure out which is before or after.

Was the same for me until I got my hands on a version of FF12 where I could speed the game up. Instant 10/10 did get plat trophy

Nope it gets worse as the story makes less and less sense. It doesn't even start out good really, the fanboys make no sense to me.

This game gonna come out on steam at all im keen to try it out.

I hate the fucking drop rates.

I remember spending entire days chaining those bombs in the mines for the best ninja sword so I could kill yiazmat.

Eventually I said fuck it and killed yiazmat anyway without it.

Fuck whoever designed weapon drops like this. Almost as dumb as the zodiac spear.

Warning you, it has horrendous pacing.

It already did, idiot.

I remember playing this game ages ago on PS2, and maybe I was just retarded but I couldn't get the system to work at all.

>set a character to use potion if their HP is below 50%
>their HP goes below 50%
>they do nothing
>set characters to use echo screen if they're inflicted with silence
>the party is hit with silence
>they do nothing
>set a character to use phoenix down on a KO'd party member
>party members are dying
>the rest just keep auto-attacking

Attached: 554918.jpg (703x718, 49K)

Well, they based it on XI

Your gambits weren't active
OR you ran out of the items
OR your priorities were bad
OR your targets were wrong
You were probably retarded, it's a very simple system.

>Your gambits weren't active
probably this lmao

Did you set the potion gambit to a priority higher than attacking?

>spend hours customizing characters
>run through dungeons and watch my careful planning come to fruition flawlessly

The fast forward system in this game made it addicting as fuck. Ultimate chill adventure RPG kino.

>Does this shit get better?
Nope, just play FFT or Vagrant Story.

>>set a character to use potion if their HP is below 50%
>>their HP goes below 50%
>>they do nothing
That actually works though.
What it doesn't work when you try to debuff enemies and they are immune to it and there is no way to skip to the next debuff spell.
Instead the ai starts from start over and over again.
That's why Time Mage is one of the most useless class in this bad game.

I may be retarded, but not THAT retarded. I checked everything you mentioned, several times. I tried different orders, turning off all other gambits, shit was just fucked.

I bet you play with yourself as well but no one makes threads about it.

based

Definitely retarded, then. Only real problem the gambit system has is detecting immunities, like said. You were doing something completely wrong.

That bright pink miniskirt really seemed out of place

Yeh I wish it wasn't there

Generally you want your gambits arranged like this:

1. Healing/Reviving
2. Status Recovery/Status Afflicting
3. Buffing/Debuffing
4. Attacking

As for the gambit system not recognizing status immunities, that's why you always have full access to the menu so you can easily turn that gambit off and then turn it back on when you need to. Literally takes 5 seconds to do it for all 3 characters.

So did her black half-corset, seemed like it was unnecessarily covering her tummy

i never use any gambits except for setting up constant basic attacks. i cast all my magic and techniques and stuff manually

Stop calling me names.

>plays itself so you can look up Ashe’s skirt
pretty based game in my opinion

Do they hurt you?

Based taste.

But I loved FFT and Vagrant Story.

Low IQ mutts shouldn't be allowed near games

Setting up gambits is unironically more intelligent than most JRPGs.

I was LITERALLY about to post this
I was a complete newbie to these games when I first played Origins and did everything manually. Iz was not fun for long. Same goes for 12. Although 12 could really use some more reasons to adjust your gambits because you can go through most of the game with the same setup

Absolutely, the turbo option makes this game so much better.

Dropped it on PS2- put 80 hours into it on PS4.

It's okay when the west does it.

H-HE SAID THE C WORD

End game is the only good thing. Maybe once you head to Pharos through the forest also. Its pretty much unexplored by everyone so your map doesnt work which gives it a special feeling, the forest is huge too

If you want difficulty, don't assign a second job to any of your party when you have the option.

12 is shit

>but Vaan suddenly doing 180 with his relationship with Bosh came out of nowhere,

Vaan would've been so much better as a character if they actually developed his connection to Basch rather than dropping it almost immediately.

>Vaan: "ARRRGGGHH ITS YOUR FAULT WHAT HAPPENED TO DALMASCA AND MY BROTHER
>Basch: "I swear it wasn't my fault."
>Vaan: "Okie dokey."

nope. that's the gameplay loop. you either enjoy it or you don't.
typically for most people the hunts are the best part of the game, but that's about it.

Admittedly the gambit system wasn't perfect. It was easy to set dead/redundant loops especially your first time through. They had actually planned on a more complex system during development but scaled back due to it potentially being overwhelming, so I imagine they probably were going to have "elseif" style clauses for each individual gambit slot.

This, the main game is piss easy, but if you go for the optional hunts you're in for a ride, the game will tear your asshole if you go ill prepared, most of them will take several tries with proper set up

Absofuckinglutely. Easily became my favorite FF.
>set up everything how I would play and let gambits take care ot it.
>Use menu like normal when something not accounted for on gambits occur.
>Use turbo speed to grind by plowing through the fields and killing everything in seconds
>Change them on the fly during boss battles.
Shits tight yo

I liked this specifically because I was a fan of XII and enjoyed seeing the gambit system in another game. That said it does play fairly differently from XII by virtue of at least the console version being an Arpg.

Sounds tedious but you do you user.

DON'T BELIEVE ONDORE'S LIES

It's not your headcanon, it is canon. FFXII, Revenant Wings, FFTA and FFTA2 take place PRIOR to Tactics and Vagrant Story. At some point after FFTA2, there's some kind of catastrophe that strikes Ivalice, causing technology to degenerate and the non-hume races to be wiped out. That's why the Ivalice of Tactics and Vagrant Story have medieval era tech and no fantasy races.

TOO LATE, AND TO THEIR SORROW DO THOSE WHO MISPLACE THEIR TRUST IN GODS LEARN THEIR FATE

This game is a combination of both, it's so awful in every way.

>every AAA game of the last 10 years
At least 12 lets me program it first.

One of the greatest myths in video game history.

>plays itself

FF12 LP's are officially meta

Attached: 1543404080693.jpg (960x960, 139K)

>take a single step
>screen breaks
>wait for the battle screen to load
>terrible music begins to play
>spam attack or sit through ability cutscenes that long overstays their welcome
>glare as the result screen calculates
>wait for the game to load the overworld
You're right, the game playing itself is the best addition this series ever had.

>game literally offers the option to play the way I want
>spends time making the game play itself
>complains the game plays itself

truly the pleb filter of the series

Still more fun than XV

>Dude what if we made literally half the cast be inconsequential to the story
>Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak
>Dude what if we made a character who's literally just a random girl with no important qualities outside of an extremely large ass
>Dude what if we made a character with an interesting and nuanced backstory and then only let the player use him in one dungeon, at the end of which he dies
>Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes
>Dude what if we took an established setting with a million interesting species and then only included humans and bunny humans as playable characters
>Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent
>Dude what if we made a complicated political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans halfway through
>Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story, and they spend their time tromping from one ancient temple to the next
>Dude what if I'm Captain Basch
>Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity outside of Balthier and Cid
>Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair
>Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals
>Dude what if we made a level-up system where all of the characters become literally identical in function
>Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors
>Dude what if we put all of the interesting and unique content in sidequests
>Dude what if the best weapon in the game had to be accessed by not opening unmarked chests
>Dude what if Star Wars

Attached: Penelo_XII.png (350x387, 147K)

Confirmed used goods. That's why she isn't popular as other FF girls.

FF fans aren't known for their intelligence.

It "playing itself" has made for the best multiplayer single-player-game experience in my life.
Me and my two buddies each claimed two characters, we would decide our character's jobs and licenses and gambits, and we proceeded together with that.
I managed Basch and Penelo and it so goddamn fun.

I'M CAPTAIN BASCH

>glare as the result screen calculates
kek

Will there ever be a FF game with just as kino localization as this one had?
youtube.com/watch?v=P9769vztXW4

BAScH LIIIIIVS!!

Square actually didn't know that people liked the localizer's work and thought he was just an expendable contractor. Now they're BEGGING him to come back

>Vagrant Story
This is a good idea. Play after FFT.

He drops it after the mines section because he realizes that it was a waste of time acting like a brat when they have more important things to do.

Vagrant Story is much worse than FFXII

FFT > XII > VS and it’s not particularly close

>love ff12
>want to play tactics
>too much of a brainlet and get stuck on like the third battle.

Attached: 1511620824221.jpg (1171x936, 87K)

it gets better 30 hours in

part of vaans character arc in ff12 is growing the fuck up. shit man hes the only one who went to shank vayne with a sword while everyone else was watching him like an bunch of idiots.

Vaan doesn't have to act like a shithead and leer at Basch the entire game; in fact I'm glad they avoided that. But my point is that they do almost literally nothing after Vaan gets over his issues. At most you see Basch and Vaan standing near each other in the background of cutscenes. Basch as some sort of mentor figure for Vaan would've been a lot more interesting than Vaan tagging along behind Balthier most the game.

I think that's a problem that a lot of the non Ashe characters had where they'd say their piece and disappear off the face of the earth until when the writers remembered that they're relevant again. Its not particularly unique to Vaan.

>get told by the ghost jews to fight the """evil""" empire like the good little gois that we are
>said Empire that is actively trying to free humanity from its enslavement
How did Squeenix get away with this storytelling.

Attached: 1432552322.jpg (1631x490, 108K)

He literally acknowledges that Basch isn't behind this and even if he was, there are more important things than revenge.

He also literally says to Ashe that he has to grow up and that his dream of being a Sky Pirate was just a coping mechanism because he couldn't understand the meaning behind his brother's death and what he should do for himself.

Come on, all of this is being said in plain text.

>party wants to beat the evil empire
>ghosts try to take advantage of it and set up a puppet leader who'd threaten the entire world with nukes
>party destroys the source of the nukes and beats the evil empire so neither of them get what they want
Yeah how did they get away with this writing?

>He literally acknowledges that Basch isn't behind this and even if he was, there are more important things than revenge.
>He also literally says to Ashe that he has to grow up and that his dream of being a Sky Pirate was just a coping mechanism because he couldn't understand the meaning behind his brother's death and what he should do for himself.

And I'm not debating any of that. I'm saying I wish they had ADVANCED things between characters further. As much as I like XII, party chemistry was sorely lacking.

AND THAT'S A GOOD THING

Sounds like one of these whiners

Attached: I don't like FF8.png (803x178, 35K)

Don't forget apparently the lexentales in FF14 are related to Durai

XII's story was always kind of a subversion of how past FFs did things. The crystal motif, being preordained or granted powers by some higher source and the characters not really questioning the meta aspect of things. In XII, the power of crystals are on a tight leash by the Occuria, and manmade attempts to make/control the power are volatile at best.

Venat gives the Archadian Empire the know-how to make manufactured nethicite so they can overthrow the Occuria and the puppet government they control. We were so close, we were almost free.

I mean, the end result was the Occuria being rejected anyway. Both parties rejected the Sun-Cryst and sought its destruction.

It's like the guy localizing this medieval mythical fantasy of royalty, magic and gods ENJOYED the time he spent writing the dialogue!

It's catchy, too.

Attached: Dalmasca's Flower.webm (960x540, 1.15M)

You idiot, he did exactly that. Basch, Vaan and Penelo become closer over the course of the game. Primarily as the non-royals compared to their party, bonding over what it means to live a different life and then as familial when Vaan takes notes on how to behave in the world as Penelo learns a support role.

C'mon, guy. There's practically 5 movies' worth of cutscenes you can watch in 1-go on youtube where just the animated scenes show that much plot and progression, nevermind all the in-game dialogue, script, item use and exploration of the character's thoughts and reactions.

You didn't pay attention to the game. There's a reason it takes DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS to finish games like Final Fantasy to 100%. There's a lot of content; it's not just a film or a book where your role as the audience it to just keep your eyes open for a while. It's more like banking. You need to invest yourself to gain anything out of it.

Attached: Al-Cid.png (1920x1088, 3.21M)

It was a combination of the localizers having experience with the style of prose, as well as having the time to finetune as much of the script as they could, as well as being able to scout out theater actors and finetune their performances. XII's localization really was an anomaly.

Phenomenal anomaly

Attached: Fran's VA.jpg (266x399, 21K)

Ironic how XII's troubled development led to one of the best localizations in the industry.

>no hot springs
Mobius is the best FF game for having these.

Attached: Cg_AAmLUoAAtPz0.jpg (600x363, 42K)

Probably an anomaly, phenomenal as it oughta be, certainly and wonderfully completed oh-so-masterfully.

There's a mod that change her clothes to black and her skirt to dark purple. Looks much nicer imo.

After a bit it sinks in for Vaan that it obviously wasn't Basch who was responsible when he sees unmasked Gabranth talking to Basch while he was imprisoned and saw that they were twins.
