The only time when Bowser was threatening

The only time when Bowser was threatening.

hes never threatening because all he wants is to dump mario and keep peach for himself. nothing else

in PM64 he had the star rod and did nothing with it for the entire game except to fight mario only in the very end

are you retarded? he pretty much killed Mario right at the start of the game, and then came up with a counter to the counter that mario spent the whole game preparing, and then was only defeated with the bullshit power of wishes

Now that I think about it, PM64's plot makes no sense. He essentially let Mario go on an entire adventure, freely letting him collect all the Star Spirits, just to come up to him and fuck his shit up.

Playing him in Bowser's Inside Story and Odyssey shows how hypercompetent he actually is when not being made a fool of by Mario.

Yeah even when I was a kid I was like ‘can’t he just wish Mario dead or something’ and didn’t get why he was trying to send goons after Mario when he could go stomp him himself.

It’s a pretty greivous plothole that I think most people are willing to just ignore and overlook. Still one of my favorite games

I'm pretty sure he literally killed Mario at the start but the Star Spirits had the power to bring Mario back to life which means they were probably stronger than Bowser's star rod.

>freely
freely? he had guardians for all of the imprisoned star spirits. he delegated work to his henchmen and they failed him. that wasn't bowser's fault

He didnt fucking kill Mario fuck off idiot

well why would you bother wishing for him dead after you thought you already killed him? he thought his henchmen were good enough, and at the very least he thought immortality granted by the star rod was good enough. maybe he didnt do it at the end because he wanted the satisfaction or killing mario himself, with his own hands. why would you need to wish rival dead if you are immortal? its unnecessary

>that escalation
I appreciate how passionate Paper Mario fans are. Still sickens me what Nintendo did to the franchise.

honestly, what a shame
i really enjoyed the turn based gameplay from the first two
i enjoyed super paper mario but i was really missing the turn based combat

>defeats him in battle
>throws a thunder at him while he's down
>drops him from the sky

Face it, Mario fucking died, they just couldn't say that because it's a game for kids.

For the same reason he bothered trying to stop him from getting the star spirits - they were the one thing that he could use to beat Bowser. Hell he could’ve wished to hide them across the galaxy if he wanted to.

The rivalry explanation would make sense but the game is simple enough and for a young enough audience that I think if that was the intent it would’ve been said explicitly.

i guess yeah but it seems weird putting guardians for the star spirits if you expect them to fail

Paper Mario 64/TTYD on the Switch when

>"uhh bowser one of the star spirits was set free by mario"
>"yea i mean lets leave him to have a chance and do nothing about it instead of going full power on him. im comfy rn"
retard

The dude had the Star Rod. He could have done whatever he wanted and chose to handle it the worst way possible.

i do agree it could have been easily avoided by wishing mario dead or doing what you said but its not COMPLETELY unreasonable to understand why bowser did what he did

Okay Yea Forums, you get a new Paper RPG in the same vein as 64 and Thousand Year Door with flaws fixed, but it has to be another Nintendo franchise, what would you choose?

He had to be revived by what are essentially the gods of the Mario universe and was still in poor condition for a few days after

legend of zelda

Oh just shut the fuck up OP, Grodus and Dimentio were 10x times more threatening than Bowser ever was, yes even PM64 Bowser. He just stole a Star Rod and beat him once, so what? Peach literally fucks about in the castle right under his nose with Twink in tow, it's not like he captures Toads and executes him Fuhrer style. You PMFags and especially hardcore Mario fags like to see shit that was never there. Bowser is a joke and was never threatening at any point in his existence except maybe Galaxy 1, but Miyamoto got butthurt. Until Miyamoto dies you're not going to see his character ever evolve beyond "I just want to fuck Peach". Also fuck PM64 fags, your crummy little game isn't as special as you think it is, nostalgia blinded fucks.

Kirby

Actually this that final fight as a 7 year old kid was intimidating. N64 bowser was pretty badass at the time too.

Theres no fucking indiction he fucking died you fucking theorycrafting nonsense spewing retard. Whats fucking next, that the whole adventure was just a dream after Bowser knocked him out?

Fire Emblem

Well, it would make sense since both series are made by Intelligent Systems.

He was a good final boss and I enjoyed all of his comedic moments in Paper Mario 64. Just a great character there. Best Bowser other than Bowser's Inside Story imo.

Can you imagine the tennis jokes involving Paper Ganon?

I cant see Ganon being humorous at all

But he went to 0 hp and didn't get a game over... that means his game was over bro.

I can picture him having a very laconic wit

Not even remotely.

>tfw seeing Bowser go from a threat to a moron literally one step behind in TTYD to a full fucking retard in SPM to fucking UNGA BUNGA in Sticker Star to like one shitty joke line in Color Splash
>meanwhile Bowser, after being badass in BIS backstabbed a new villain in Dream Team then teamed up and attempted to betray himself in Paper Jam, a game where he fucking shot Peach's Castle because Jr. got beat up

Attached: mario-2-1059545.jpg (665x374, 22K)

He didn't die, he just got severely fucked up. If the Star Spirits hadn't used what little energy they had left, he probably would have been recovering for far longer.

Attached: mama mia.png (1018x574, 436K)

Bowser's backstabbing in Dream Team was great because it felt obvious that the new villain was going to betray him like always.

Bowser beats Mario exactly the same number of times in PM64 as Sticker Star.

I can't remember where he says it but in Dream Team.

>"Hear this! I will kidnap Peach OVER and OVER again until I pull it off! Failure isn't an option! And neither is giving up!"

This is the same game where he briefly becomes god emperor of the universe. I wish mainline Bowser wasn't such a smug dipshit.

Attached: b5c.png (380x400, 123K)

>he briefly becomes god emperor of the universe

I haven’t played Dream Team but how much of the game is about this? Sounds cool

Haven’t played Paper Jam either but don’t have any intention to. Might give DT a shot at some point

Learn to take a joke for once. Bowser's parts in TTYD were golden with humour.

Agreed, thought he was good in SPM too. I’m not a big fan of SPM but Bowser certainly wasn’t one of its problems

Excepting character balance I guess

Bowser did not go out of his way to stop Mario after beating him at the start of the game because to do so would imply that he feared Mario. Mario after their first encounter was nothing to him, and he knew Mario could not touch him. When Mario started to get more star spirits, Bowser obviously recognized his potential as a threat which is why he souped up the Star Rod. BUT if he had decided "I'll just go stop him now" it would have shown that the Great and Mighty Bowser fears Mario enough to thwart him early. Basically his pride and vanity as a powerful ruler of the Koopa Troop led him to let Mario have his adventure, hoping one of his minions would take care of him, and planning for Mario's arrival just in-case. As mentioned earlier, Mario DID only win because of bullshit wish magic.

>I'M POINTING OUT THE THING I DID WRONG ALOUD LAUGH
they'd be pretty shit without kammy and the other NPCs interacting

literally interlude 2

>>I'M POINTING OUT THE THING I DID WRONG ALOUD LAUGH
Nigga what do you mean by this? When did this happen?

Any other cases? And it's not that he says that he got tricked by a poster that's the punchline, it's the fact that he got tricked by a poster that's the punchline.

SPM's whole main cast was written wrong though. Bowser was just a pushover, Luigi was brave, Peach was a bitch.

Kammy going on about how much fun she had while Bowser had to swim across the ocean and Bowser beating up Rawk Hawk was funny. But yeah, the other scenes were pretty much "you just missed Mario" followed by him getting mad.

The only game where they actually tried to make him a villain. He has the ace up his sleeve, trounces Mario, takes every extra mile to ensure that even if Mario survives that he most likely won't be able to win. Then if Mario somehow manages to overcome the extra mile, have ANOTHER ace up your sleeve.
I don't think anyone points to the writing in SPM being one of the game's key flaws. I don't know about the Japanese, but all I hear about is how much people loved the story or at least thought it was okay.

>Any other cases?
boggly tree

>The only game where they actually tried to make him a villain
And he still had funny scenes

Attached: 1467571960563.jpg (296x203, 16K)

PM's character writing clashes a lot with how the characters are anywhere else.
Peach was a lot more active and willing to sabotage plans or even get her hands dirty herself.
Bowser started off as an actual villain before becoming what is essentially comic relief.
Luigi was a liar who spoke highly of himself, but was a massive coward beneath it all. Dunno where you got the part about him being brave, considering he stutters his lines and hides a lot from several threats in the game. He just learns to overcome his fears slowly throughout the game, and also gets brainjacked by the villain.

>Boggly Tree
>Punchline was the Elder Puni surprising Bowser and the Hag on Hag fight
>Sanctuary
>Punchline was Bowser thinking Luigi took the star when Pennigton is misnaming Mario and being able to say he's Koopa Koot
You're also forgetting the NPCs you can talk to like Toodles commenting that he'd like mount his horns on a stand creeping him out.

Ahem

Will the BiS remake be alright to play if I missed out on the original?

Their personalities were carried over from Mario RPG. In all the other games up til that point it’s not like the characters really expressed themselves that much, there wasn’t much to contradict. They felt consistent in the Mario & Luigi games too.

Dunno what you’re talking about with Peach and Bowser. Luigi was definitely braver than previous games but that had kinda been building up for a while with his ttyd stuff and getting more acknowledgment as M&L went on. And he was still a wuss sometimes, it was more like he fliflopped between brave and cowardly, which sounds on the mark for Luigi to me.

The first time that happened, sure.

Every time after has been a total letdown in comparison to the YI bossfight.

SPM's writing clashed with the previous Paper Maro games.

>Luigi was a liar who spoke highly of himself, but was a massive coward beneath it all.

Luigi was flaky, unreliable and awkward like the regular series. in SPM he runs up to face Bleck during the game's prologue. He tries to take leadership in Castle Bleck before he gets hypnotised.

>Peach was a lot more active and willing to sabotage plans or even get her hands dirty herself.

She was proactive but she still had a nice attitude. in SPM she apparently gets annoyed really easily and has grown a sharp tounge.

>Bowser started off as an actual villain before becoming what is essentially comic relief.

He was still intimidating NPCs and still was able to beat other villains. wherever he showed up in SPM absolutely nobody treats hm seriously, he exists to get beaten up and whine about it.

It almost seems like they just crammed the 4 characters into someone elses' shit story. Because jack shit abut the game actually warrants their inclusion other than "The Prophecy said so". I don't know what people see in this tripe.

Replay PM64

Bowser is still a hapless moron

Dream Team was the only game he was threatening because he kept his BiS development

>I don't know what people see in this tripe.
It was a bad game, but Sticker Star was so much worse that it looked okay in retrospect.

Only the last 5% or so. The big twist of the game is Bowser being the main villain again which seems weird now I know .

He's never threatening because he's gay

>then teamed up and attempted to betray himself in Paper Jam, a game where he fucking shot Peach's Castle because Jr. got beat up

11/10

You meant to post the original game right? This is a haha joke post right?

>sticker star
>UNGA BUNGA GIVE ME THE COMET

>Color Splash
>Fucking Toads having fun, I want to play with those colors, give myself a cool rainbow

Bowser is good in SS and Color Splash. He takes whatever he wants and doesn't give a shit about the consequences.

>Luigi was flaky, unreliable and awkward like the regular series
Did you listen to his partners in ttyd and compare their stories with his? That’s totally in character. Hell it even foreshadows the delusions of grandeur in SPM, or st least a basis upon which his more practive role in SPM is building upon.

Dunno what you’re talking about with Peach, she seemed like her usual self to me.

As for Bowser, the underworld had to lock him up cause they couldn’t actually take him down and had to trick him. Some of the dead guys were freaking out about what a powerful monster he is.

>Did you listen to his partners in ttyd and compare their stories with his? That’s totally in character.

That first sentence was me describing Luigi in Paper Mario 64, TTYD, Paper Jam and Color Splash. In SPM he just acts like a different character. He never acts like that in SPM.

>Luigi trying to fight the bad guy? Whaaaaat that's so crazy?

Don't forget destroying Toadette's hard work right in front of her

Missed opportunity

>Lets peach escape from her room 5000 times

Isn't that pretty much any adventure game? He had loads of minions he sent out to stop Mario.
