I busted my first nut to cinematech nocturnal emissions
Not a chance. It was both ahead of its time and purely a product of its time. It can never be again. The internet, the likes of YouTube and Twitch and sites like IGN, make it impossible.
Probably not given the current environment of media. It'd be a bunch of corporate shills and/or slackivists masquerading as trendy gamers shoveling politics into random gaming discussion. It would all be off-cuff because it'd be as cheaply made too. Best you could probably hope for is a podcast/stream channel of some kind. TV is pretty dead nowadays.
Tv is dead so no
I wish somebody ripped all the episodes of that show Portal, the mmo show? Thanks for the cinematech rips though
youtube.com
Icons was pretty underrated even if they did have to rush through it because of the run time and got some really questionable interviewers like random magazine guys
Youtube and twitch both exsist why in gods name would people pay for a cable channel?
CODE MONKEY LIKE FRITOS

except IGN was a contemporary of G4 for a long time back when people took IGN seriously
It's pretty funny looking back that they had that show Arena which was basically esports tournaments for various games before esports was even a thing. I loved that show, it was way more entertaining than modern cancerous esports too, ironically enough.
WITH BIG WARM FUZZY SECRET HEART
Truly a great channel! Thank you Go! Go! Tokyo! for teaching me about boy love and Tokyo Game Show. There's no recording or any clips. WHY!?
Adam is a huge faggot so no.
Cinematecs gameplay of Jojo Heritage for the future got me into reading the series back in 2005 when all there was was shitty Chinese Duwang translation, but I fucking fell in love. That is only G4 memory I remember with extreme joy
CODE MONKEY LIKE YOU
>my first nut
>cinematech
Underage detected
I've never understood why Arena never took off. Didn't take itself too seriously, had a good variety of games. They would go play SOCOM 2, to Call of Duty UO, to Mario Kart
Fuck I miss watching portal and chilling out to cinematech because I didn't have very many consoles growing up.
Shame most of it was scripted or when they started forcing interns to play with the only payment being pizza.
It ran out of money and was mismanaged into the fucking ground, much like the rest of the channel.
Yes, but it has grown a lot since then and functions similarly to how G4 did with its live coverage of E3, Comic Con, PAX, Gamescom, etc. G4 died because it couldn't compete with the rising internet gaming sites back then and it definitely couldn't now if someone wanted to bring it back.
I LOVE YOU WHORES!
This
>Cheat! with Cory Rouse
A surprisingly charismatic host, and often a very helpful show.
>Filter with Diane Mizota
Don't know if she was into vidya at all, but she had great presentation, and was leagues better than the roastie that replaced her.
>Icons
Fairly informative, albeit lacking some details due to the short runtime.
>Cinematech
Somehow entertaining despite it just being clips of trailers and gameplay. Oddly relaxing.
>Judgment Day
Tommy Victor were very entertaining hosts, even if they had some clear biases at times. The sidebars they took to focus on reviewing older games were nice, too.
>Electric Playground
Similar case to Judgment Day. since its cast had a couple of the same hosts. Informative on gaming news and whatnot.
>Portal
A somewhat clever idea in linking a bunch of MMOs at the time together into a storyline-based comedy show. Anarchy Online, EverQuest, The Sims Online, Second Life, etc. all interacting in some manner was kinda neat. Don't know if the humor would hold up now, but I remember liking it at the time. Also The Drifter was kino.
Also, fuck Kevin Pereira.
thank you
This unless they are willing to bother with internet webisodes or something there's no profit to gain from tv.
Arena was really cool on the G4 side and Extended Play, Screen Savers, and Call for Help was great on the TechTV side.
>Cheat! with Cory Rouse
>A surprisingly charismatic host, and often a very helpful show
My nigga I liked Cory more than Kristin the guy was just so damn endearing.
At least I got introduced to Arrested Development from G4
It had fucking Wesley from Star Trek who said the management sucked but I only really watched it when the buff dude took over
One thing I really miss about G4tv was the neat bumpers, station IDs and commercials they had some of my personal favorites where random folks telling their video game experiences.
youtube.com
youtube.com
I learned how to beat Final Fantasy X and the Ratchet and Clank Going Commando secret musem from Cheat!
I even remember making a big deal to stay up until midnight so I could do the Going Commando easter egg and felt like such a badass staying up late
I asked this in the last thread but didn't get an answer, but are there any archives of X-Play, specifically the skits? I'd love to go back and see how some of them hold up, and Youtube only has so many of them.
Also I'd love to see some of the reviews they treated like a joke, like SXX Blur.
But G4 sucked dick, most of it's content was crap, it was Tech Tv that was the real geek/gamer channel but they got bought out by G4 and then dragged it all down.
Early G4 felt a lot like video game magazines in the late 90s and 2000s where everyone actually seemed to enjoy the hobby and not give a shit about pandering to a wider audience or women.
ON THE X-PLAY BOARDS
youtube.com
Review kino
Except half their staff and hosts were super hot women. And Morgan Webb, waifu prime, was probably in the top 3 of the actual biggest nerds working for the channel. It always blew my mind that a woman like that actually was into game. One of my earliest, and most frequent, faps back in the day.
Their star trek with fan messages in the back was pretty cool
No offense but when you're a 12 year old boy, tech news and shit is way less interesting than a channel just about video games
I remember pulling an all nighter on the G4 boards a few times as a kid. Most memorable one was when I sat in their chat room all night until I had to go to school that morning and then I fell asleep in like three of my classes because of it.
I forgot about that. That was really neat.
youtube.com
>Laura's asscrack
Who here got a nostalgia boner lads?
has anyone ever made "the G4 Virgin / The TechTV Chad"?
This show was awful but also a guilty pleasure
This. Aside from Battlebots, I didn't care about the tech side very much, I just wanted the shows about games and the hot girls on them. I had a friend who was autistically into the TechTV shows back then though. He actually liked Call For Help and The Screensavers (before it turned into Attack of the Show, which I did like) which in my opinion were snoozefests.

About to have some X-Play on while playing Switch in bed for max comfy frens
i legit liked it. i still laugh at the ET episode
Geoff Keighley was a twat even before he became the Dorito Pope.
pretty sure they still air cops. Not sure about cheaters though.
G4 shut down four years ago.
Yeah but they still air cops, so the "age of g4" never really left.
Tina was such an underrated qt. In fact, I never realized until just now how much she looks exactly like my oneitis that I met years later in college. Fug.
I remember laying in my bed as a kid and not fapping yet but definitely having some of my first dirty thoughts to Morgan Webb late at night
this is how i found out about ur mr. gay
Same user, same. She was one of my first real faps too.
I wish all that G4 programming wasn't lost to time. I would fucking kill for something that's like Toonami Aftermath where someone is just streaming all the programming and bumps 24/7
I dont get how they screwed it up so hard
If they can make a 24/7 channel work around fuckin GOLF I think they could have made a gaming channel work if they actually knew what they were doing.
Gaming wasn't anywhere near as ubiquitous as today when g4 existed.
Also none of the execs behind g4 cared about it being sustainable, it wasn't super profitable, but syndicated garbage cost almost nothing to license, and people watched it more than their original programming. So the solution was obvious. pump more and more syndicated garbage in until it stopped working.
which is what they did.
Tommy Tallarico's absolute obsession with sound design will never not be hilarious to me.
He owns the Intellevision brand and the rights to all of it's games now, which is odd.
King
youtube.com
Making unique programming cost more than just running syndicated shit along with management at some point who didn't think video games would be profitable when now literally kids do is watch other people play games on Twitch or Let's Plays
youtube.com
Frens I think I am going to just watch G4 for a couple of days
god damn this made me nostalgically horny
The rise of the internet and various gaming websites getting bigger and more ambitious with their own content killed G4. G4 couldn't compete. Their target demographic of teenagers and young 20-somethings were outgrowing their juvenile, immature antics on shows like AotS and Code Monkeys and they couldn't adapt fast enough to keep up with trends or their maturing audience. Also, our generation and those that followed don't really watch that much TV, we play games and use the internet. Golf is for old people who still view TV as the primary form of media besides print. A gaming channel would never succeed nowadays (just like how gaming magazines no longer exist either), not with Twitch and YouTube already covering it on the platform that modern teens use as their primary form of media.
>X-play's the horror of song 2, Real buttholes of gaming, and the Ultimate Muscle related Reviews and Previews will never be found.
PRESIDENTS WILL NOT BE KIDNAPPED BY NINJAS ANYMOOOORREEEE~~~~~
Women's fashion in the 00's was so great. I miss those kinds of low cut jeans and big belts on girls. That was basically what every girl wore back in my high school.
youtube.com
NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW
If only they were smart and realized the internet was the future
Although, people make enough video game content online nowadays to fill the void even if you have to sift through twitch thots, children bait channels, and streamwhores to find them
i always liked the show, except for the last 2 episodes, where they upped Dave's douchiness to astronomical levels.
the whole 'manipulate Jerry into thinking he fucked over everyone when drunk and that everyone despises him, just so Dave could get from him a ticket he earned fair and square' must be the most disgusting i hve ever seen in tv at the time, at least before watching southpark and discovering the Apex asshole known as Cartman.
>Cinematech
Good lord this show has to be the comfiest show out there. Thank you for bringing this back to me user
>if only they were smart
I mean, they were?
They stopped bothering to try having original content because no one watched it, because everyone was online already.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Nor do a lot of people in this thread.
The Internet wasn't any less popular back when G4 was still on the air than it is now. Seriously, you zoomers need to fuck off.
Agreed
Imagine only having gaming magazines and thinking the game looks interesting. And then you see it in motion here and laugh your ass off. X-Play was a treasure before everyone got internet fast enough to stream
You're obviously the zoomer here if you think the internet back in 2000-2005 was ANYTHING like it is today, because it sure as fuck wasn't.
No one is saying the internet wasn't popular. But you generally couldn't get good video content for games back then unless you wanted to fucking wait hours for a low quality video to download or an even shittier lower quality video streaming from flash or shockwave that turned your computer into a slow piece of shit before Youtube became a thing.
>1.............................
>out of 5
>a while after they cancelled icons they bring it back
>features suicide girls instead of anything game related
Fuck off zoomers.
Nah. Most cool tech channels these days are on Youtube.
youtube.com
>Morgan Ulala cosplay
Cinematech was art
I really miss PSM. Thinking back on it the humor in it was way too crude and guy-oriented to fly today and something like a swimsuit issue would set twitter on fire. I have the gameinformer sub and it's just astroturfed bullshit in comparison. The only good shit is the May issue's letter section from retards thinking the GameInfarcer section in April is real. Fuck me I wanna go back.
>cinematech noctural emmisions aired from 2005-2007

>Episode about Asia Carrera, a somewhat prolific porn star at the time
>She builds her own gaming PCs and designs her own character skins for either Unreal Tournament or Quake
>Remember her later, look her up
>Guest reviewer for Maximum PC magazine and other notable tech-related things
She seemed pretty cool. Her life got pretty fucked up for a while, though.
The internet is the new G4 you can watch game related stuff all day
If I recall there was a really good episode on id software right before doom 3 came out
I remember an issue of PSM had a topless pic of the chick from Bloodrayne with her tits being covered by some stars and me as a retarded kid tried to get a quarter and scratch it off. Official Playstation Magazine was a neutered PSM but at least came with demo discs. Electronic Gaming Monthly and PSM were the best
fuck g4
techtv was better. screensavers, unscrewed, x-play, call for help, anime unleashed
I found an old box of OXM demo disks. Have the first 40 or so I think. I wonderif there's some crazy archivist I can send them to
She had such a mommy vibe back then
>Anime Unleashed
Holy shit I was just about to ask if G4 had an anime block because I didn't remember if I watched it on there or Sci-fi channel
Shame none of it is anywhere near as good or comfy. It's all just retarded trash for zoomers with smug douche soibois.

What's up with the sudden influx of G4 threads the past couple days?
I remember it being on techtv but I stopped watching shortly after their g4 merger because I didn't have access to it anymore but pretty sure they kept it going for a bit
youtube.com
So Yea Forums, what things can you name that are hotter than XIII?
obviously its the cable tv shills running analytics
I really miss having a channel dedicated to games and niche culture in general, wish there was one now, but more the style of like CNN or ESPN where almost everything is live and constant content.
Maybe whoever owns the the rights to the network is testing the waters for a revival? More likely though that it's just one nostalgiafag who really wants to keep talking about it since these threads are usually comfy
>watch anime unleashed as a kid
>see youtube.com
>all those episodes just about wanting to catch a peak of girl's panties with shoe mirrors or other elaborate plans
I think I understand why I have a voyeur fetish now.
twitch.tv
It was separated into a show called "Game Makers", I think. The Icons title was kept for show unrelated to video games on the channel. Bizarrest thing I've ever seen.
Isn't the same at all
youtube.com
This anime is pure gold
I don't see how it could be profitable in today's media environment. It'd die an immediate and ignoble death if it goes back to broadcast TV. It's going against fucking industry titans like Youtube Gaming and Twitch if it goes the subscription streaming route. If it marries itself to one single platform (think mixxer on xbone) then it's also dead. As stated earlier in the thread, G4/TechTV were absolutely products of their time and trying to bring it to current year would be like bringing a deep sea fish up to shallow waters.
>Manchildren begging kids for cash while sucking at games.
Completely different.
I remember X-Play covered a weird Japanese game where you are at a boarding school and all the guys want to fuck you. I swear one day I am going to find that game.

Unfiltered whores and morons trying to copy well established youtubers in their thousands vs shows that had at least some level of production value that isn't just a webcam with a greenscreen. Yeah nah, they're not even on the same level.
Holy crap thats it, can't believe this is one of my more prominent memories of Xplay
Viewtiful Joe
Yeah.. As a nerdy kid out in the country with a lousy internet connection and only the odd magazine ad to tell me what was new in gaming, cheesy X-Play reviews felt like a godsend, and I have a ridiculous amount of nostalgia for old-school TechTV, but it can't compete with people simply looking up what they want to see on youtube.
I still love this.
youtu.be
would you believe i just found it randomly? im trying to look up if someone uploaded any of my wanted sketches...
but considering Xplay has over 1000 eps, its obvious things would get lost, if only there were a way to contact whoever was in charge of G4 and ask him the episodes, this is legit vidya history, and it shouldnt be something lost.
Webb x Sessler Xplay > Cinematech > AOTS > everything else
I met Quinton Flynn in Cleveland once and boy howdy I never knew he was from here. He's a swell dude
There is the v_watches cytube, that's still up somehow.
Its a different era. G4 will only live on in our hearts.
Someone could make a website that runs content 24/7 live in a similar format as a tv station
Thank you so much for posting this! I've been looking for something like this for years and I can't believe someone finally found this old show.
>You will never again believe it or not it's E3
>Those commercials
Angry Joe literally does the exact same shit as X-Play.
do you know if any of those rips have the Powershovel song segment of the 'Zelda lullaby' song segment?
>TRIFORCE
>TRIFORCE
>TRIFORCE
>TRI-TRI-TRI-TRI-TRIFORCE
Do we have every Xplay episode uploaded to Youtube?
That was the last year I had to watch it on TV; we got broadband internet that fall.
maybe around E3 2016 i had that whole commercial in my head thinking it was only a couple years prior. looked it up and it was from E3 2005. What the fuck
>Victor Lucas still produces reviews
>Pretty high quality production values
>Almost no views
Makes me sad, he seems like a cool guy and seems wholesome as fuck. He was do a much better job with the game awards than that corporate cuck Geoff.
nice
I want to go back. Everything has gotten so much fucking worse, all of my hobbies have been destroyed. Everything is expensive, people have less time for each other, finding real human connection past random hookups and drinking buddies is impossible. I want to go back bros, I want to go home.
Lol, no. You can barely find the Ratty skits in decent quality.
I did too! I was 12 or 13. I'm 25 this month, so fuck the underage b& poster.
Fucking choice, user.
Bro, I feel like I blinked and this entire decade passed by. Shit's weird.
>Highest view count is 3.1K
He seems really talented.
Why doesn't he advertise more?
I remember me and a couple friends making a big deal of the E3 coverage they did with the Ray Liotta interview and having fucking A Flock of Seagulls play live at it.
Shit like the VGAs never really managed to catch that interest since, which sucks.
Next year, kids born after January 9th, 2002 will be able to post on Yea Forums
I was surprised that Electric Playground was still running and found that channel a couple days ago and found it strange too that the production values were so high for something that got no views. Are they running on Canada TV or something?
Social media user.
Social media has ruined the fucking world.
I am a zoomer (born 2000) and I also want to go back, the advent and shift culture took with social media and online gaming has made a lot of shit worse
I think part of what makes me sad about something like X-Play's passing is that it reminds me of the sense of wonder I had during an era of experimentation in gaming in general. The humor was cheesy, but every time I watched new games on G4 as a kid I was seeing creative ideas and innovations. Every game could be a surprise for better or for worse.
Now outside of indie devs and a few Japanese developers I don't feel like we have that anymore. It's just bitter nerds like me complaining about how this year was more bland than last year's.
I was born in the early 90's. Society and people in general were better growing up. I especially saw this seeing how my parents interacted with the community and those around them. People still helped each other, they cared about random strangers. Thats pretty much gone now.
9/11 changed things. The world got darker that day and things seemed to accelerate from then on as shit got worse and worse. Then around 2011-2012 shit just went off the rails completely.
What kills me is the amount of homeless people in the fucking streets. Rent is so expensive now, I don't know how people do it. The amount of people sleeping on the streets and tent cities has skyrocketed. The city I grew up loving is fucking disgusting now.
Everything has gotten worse. I legitimately don't understand how there are people who think things have never been better. Its getting harder and harder to fake it, I don't know anymore bro
>but every time I watched new games on G4 as a kid I was seeing creative ideas and innovations
I bought Katamari Damacy because it was exposed to me through either X-Play or Judgement Day (I forget which).
Pretty much once the 360 and PS3 hit, we saw a little creativity early on but quickly it died and everyone started going after the same trends and stopped innovating.
cytube /r/v_watches
get in here bros
I honestly feel bad for your generation, your entire culture is just borrowed shit from the 90s and 80s and an absolute fuckton of cynicism and hatred.
I ESPECIALLY feel bad for any boys under the age of 15, since everything nowadays is catered towards girls, faggots, and manchildren who want to be little girls, so young boys have pretty much nothing to latch on to and enjoy aside from fucking ecelebs.
The advancement in technology made video games more mainstream. The normies really liked first person shooters, so most companies were banking on them. We're going through another one right now with battle royales.
I had one of my fan messages put on Star Trek 2.0.
>TFW Comcast never carried G4/Tech TV during its heyday and you only got to see its dry husk of a channel when they finally did carry it, then it was taken off the air.
Same. Imagine trying to convince your dad to buy this game when you're 13
G4, and Unbeatable Banzuke, are never coming back OP.
>cytube /r/v_watches
I typed in cytube.com
I was about to say that Comcast DID carry G4 back in 2005-2008, but then I remembered that I had DirectTV and Dish Network back then.
And now I have none of them because cable is fucking dead outside of local channels.
Doubt it. It was good while it lasted though
>tfw my mom and I both loved G4 and TechTV before it
>she went out and bought me Katamari for christmas one year based off the XPlay review
ITS NOT FUCKING FAIR I WANT TO GO BACK
You mean TechTV.. not G4. G4 is trash has always been trash.
The dot is between "cytu" and "be", there is no .com
it's cytu dot be
Another classic:

Lifeline, the voice controlled game, check around 14:30.
Thanks a lot man!

The modern industry's a double-edged sword, because services like Steam have allowed a lot of gems to come to the surface from teams that never would have existed back in the day. Hollow Knight, Hat in Time, Supergiant Games, etc.
And even creative titles that failed the first time around, like Psychonauts or Beyond Good and Evil can get a second chance through the word of mouth of the internet.
But Triple A Publishers have hit a creative standstill with the absurd growth of manipulative multiplayer games and loot box bullshit that desperately clamors after the latest trend with younger and more impressionable players. We just have to wait for the bottom of the bag to fall out and hope that the next direction they take isn't so bloated and self-indulgent. Make smaller games again and try something niche.
>local channels
>Circa 2005
>Local weatherman Frank Billingsly occasionally brings his dog, Radar, on air.
>Radar is no longer alive.
Why is life so cruel?
Gonna go bust a nut to NE again
Fucking this, the merger was the kiss of death for both channels, TechTV should have remained independent. If it did it would probably still be alive in some form today.
in the end, it killed both channels
>2005 was 14 years ago
Really though, these threads always clearly show the people with nostalgia for G4 were in their early to mid teens at the time usually. Normally too young to really have disposable income, so the more expensive hobbies and products you'd see on TechTV were generally out of reach of a lot of people, I think. Video games and dumb juvenile humor though were a lot more accessible and relevant.
It feels like the G4 crowd was probably 5-10 years younger than TechTVs whenever the G4 vs TechTV argument comes up or salty TechTV viewers say the merger was all G4s fault etc.
The merger happened because both channels were in danger of dying because they were both niche only for younger to middle aged males. That said, they should have gone back to appealing to tech instead of fucking Spike TV lite
>mfw I still remember the lyrics to that song
There's no way it would still be around, don't delude yourself. Also, I don't know why this "TechTV was better than G4" meme persists when ALL of the shows people remember were from the G4 side of it even before the merger.
Golf is extremely popular with the demographic who still pays for cable. G4/TTV existed as a very niche channel that you only got in the higher cable packages. Beyond that the poor management and refusal to adapt killed them.
>The sweet embrace of death will soon take us all.
is it possible to make some kind of 24 hour online stream that plays game trailers, gamplay, niche game exposure, game osts, game music videos, and parody/fun content
like
youtube.com
I really loved this format of endless games
My brother. Morgan was my first fap too
no cause DUDE SOCIAL MEDIA XDDD LE FANNY YOUTUBER
If any channel could weather the storm that is the internet it would be TechTV, also
>Xplay
>G4 original
see pic related
It's possible, but who would do it and find way to make money from it?
I'm not a fucking tranny but one of my first sexual memories was me lying in bed imaging I took over Morgan Webb's body to watch her get naked and made her hold in her pee
>that you only got in the higher cable packages
No, it was literally on the same basic tiers like mtv, bet, spike, cnn, tbs etc..
The v_watches cytube deals with mostly just what G4 episodes were uploaded to YouTube, but there's no reason someone couldn't make a cytube of all of what you described, the playlists run 24/7. You could also make a YouTube playlist and make a Rabbit channel that plays said YouTube playlist I guess but that service has been going through some shitty changes to how rooms/control works.
>fapping while channel surfing
>get to G4 showing cinematech
>mfw they're showing a bunch of cute japanese models in swimsuits
member portal
Depended on your provider. I remember only having Tech TV until they merged with G4.
shit i really think you're right
it feels like we're in an alternate time where we achieved the bad end
>nobody ever mentions your show in Nostalgia Threads
>Cheat codes are completely dead in the year 2019 and have instead been replaced by DLC and microtransactions.
>all these 30 year old Doomers thinking they're better than the 20 year old Boomers for liking G4
imagine the people who are growinf up with tablets and smartphones in their hands
is it better or worse that they dont know what things were like before?
>tfw that optimistic feeling when you discover a new game is gone now
Corey Rouse's version of the show was better but Kristin Holt was a 10/10 cutie
I really liked Cheat. I have weirdly vivid memories of watching the Destroy All Humans and Psychonauts episodes, and seeing them just play around with all the scavenger hunts and easter eggs.
The sad truth, remember buying cheat code books at the scholastic book sales then using them in all the games I owned. Even remember one day waking up and turning on Cheat and noting down cheats, feelsbadman
Not with Comcast.
>been replaced by DLC and microtransactions.
Cheats definitely died, but I don't think that's why. I'm not sure what did it in though.
What if it snowed in San Fransisco?
Is it odd that Fallout 76's total and complete failure gives me newfound optimism?
I don't personally wish for any dev team's failure. But sometimes it's weirdly nice to see a greedy and half-baked product just get totally rejected for the bad idea that it is.
>your entire culture is just borrowed shit from the 90s and 80s and an absolute fuckton of cynicism and hatred
This. I can't even imagine growing up today. Even the shitty memes are more cynical and depressing instead of just random humor
Absolutely fucking based. I've legitimately been looking 5+ years for a Cinematech archive.
i think its a symptom of games becoming bigger and more money. they start to lose their soul
I remember keeping the cheat codes/tips on old Fruit By the Foot wrappers in a special box.
youtube.com
I'm crying here bros
I haven't read the thread.
I can tell you this channel is reddit incarnate. Always was. Its painful. Poop jokes. Dick jokes. Hahaha your gay bro Haha but if you are really gay it's fine no offense meant. LOUD = FUNNY, the "screaming intern" character on X-play being the worst offender.
>Screensavers gets a revival series with the original crew
>Gets canceled a few years later
It's not fucking fair.
No. I used to hate g4 for what they did to techtv, but looking back I wish there was something like that now, even it would be cringy as fuck. But it would be an sjw freakshow in 2019 so what's the point of even having this thought?
>I can't enjoy anything except when it's ironic

the part about cynicism and hatred
The show that got me interested in WoW, which I have now played for over half my life, against my better judgement.
I remember their review for that shit game, kek. Was one of their funniest ones.
Which review was that?
I had a friend that was on Arena. He said all he did was sit around and eat pizza for hours and by the time it was time to play he just wanted to go home.
Games becoming as hand holdy as they are probably contributed a bit. Who needs a guide or a show giving you hints for something that stumped you when everything is a linear hallway with questmarkers.
ill tell you how it is: everybody is fucking aritificial and they all joke about offing themselves and talk about how anxious and depressed teens they are
while they browse instagram and degrade their self image even further
im 18 so not underage b&, though since this is the family friendly 4channel© i dont know if that even matters anymore
John Moseley Mad Trix.
Inside Gaming daily got revived, which I'm happy about because it's like it was killed, became a zombie, which was also partially grafted into some other host (the know), was then absorbed into the host, had a pseudo revival (what ever news shit was happening on Funhaus), and then literally ate its host and took over.
Not at all. It's a goddamn shame it had to be Fallout they stooped this low with though. Even if it was obvious they were heading this direction with it from the start, it's just sad.
>The Internet wasn't any less popular back when G4 was still on the air than it is now. Seriously, you zoomers need to fuck off.
It's true that gaming was less ubiquitous back then, though. Or rather, it was less mainstream. Around 2007, gaming became more of a normie hobby, which resulted in an influx of bros into the gaming world. That's probably part of the reason why G4 tried to become Bro TV.
These boobs on Morgan bros...
>But it would be an sjw freakshow in 2019 so what's the point of even having this thought?
This. Thots would be banned, token negroes on every show, le drumpf memes, etc.
I was thinking of some kind of algorithm along with some manual input that would capture game previews/gameplay from youtube along with vidya related clips
>who would do it and find way to make money from it?
Idk maybe 30 second ads after 6 blocks.
interesting, I really loved the cinematech format of pure gameplay. If I can figure out something i'll make it known here on Yea Forums.

Regular online functionality and achievements might have played a role. Since people like to show off gamer score and do buy games just for that, they don't want to include a feature (even an optional one) that would prevent them from getting them? And with online functionality that carries over singleplayer progression being more common that just makes them undesirable to work in. Some of it has become DLC just like traditional Unlocks (costumes etc) have, though. Developers are more insistent that their games are "experiences" now too so being able to fuck around or use a cheat to breeze through something they designed and intended you to play and get specific emotions or "challenge" from.
Cinematch was art. Imagine, somebody has to watch loads of gameplay clips, stitch them together to make it interesting, find appropriate music for when they didn't play the soundtrack and just hope the footage of the game was enough to carry the show, no dialogue, sometimes fast edited jokes, but just pure gameplay
I never thought I'd long for the fucking days of over 9000 and longcat, but goddamn, things really have changed.
>Kristin is now a literal Gamestop shill
I guess she'll be out of another job soon enough.
Remember how much X-Play bashed anime and got the weebs assblasted?
>it can't compete with people simply looking up what they want to see on youtube
That's the thing, though. On Youtube, you have to look it up, so you have to know exactly what to look for. When you watched X-Play or something, they might do something you weren't necessarily looking for but still enjoyed watching. Watching a show can be more relaxing and comfy than looking things up, because you don't have to actively search for stuff. You can just sit back and see what they come up with. It's a different experience.
Don't forget when she was on American Idol.
And Final Fantasy and JRPGs in general
X-Play was retarded when it came to weeb games. They reviewed all three versions of Persona 3 but gave one version passes on shit they hated in the other two.
I was about nine, maybe ten when I first saw this:

I already knew all about porn and stuff because my mom always fell asleep watching HBO in the living room, and the late night stuff would come on. But that Rumble Roses clip awoke something primal in me that shitty 80's-tier porn never had.

Basically, if it was from Japan and acted very Japanese, it would be the subject to ridicule.
i believe its due to the largely online focus of most games, even in single player what with stat tracking, achievement tracking, what have you.
cheats began as helpful tools for developers testing their game. as that phased out, they survived off of quirk alone. today there just isn't a demand for cheats for the sake of fun so for the most part they're not included
that said, plenty of games still have cheats in some form
but definitely not this. what you're saying doesn't even make sense.
Yeah, it's sad what happened to the Fallout name, but I'm glad that 76 basically had a swift and all-encompassing death, rather than some spitefully half-successful mess that milked just enough cash out of die-hard fans to justify having more projects follow in its footsteps.
Truly a foundational pillar for my development into adulthood.
>remember getting an issue of PSM that came with a whole DVD full of Rumble Roses gameplay and clips
>play the disk on my PS2 with the door closed with the volume down constantly having one eye on my bedroom door making sure no one opened it
Product of its time, nigga. It was aimed at Teens-Early Twenties of ~2005.
The problem with the RandumxD humor type shit comes from people still using it today or through the a lens older than that Teens-Early Twenties past.
I do wince fairly often now watching old Xplay episodes, but back when I was a kid that shit was entertaining and funny. You don't have to retroactively change your opinion on past experiences to fit how you feel about shit now.
You know something, I really miss the sort of real in your face style of techtv like look at their clothes and the sets.
The episode where they showcased a female Gnome who was the first/one of the first to figure out how/actually get the mounts of other races on one character?
That's always lingered in my memory and I don't know why.
That's fair, but now people have subscriptions to their preferred internet reviewers for that sort of thing. They can just watch what's up next in their feed.
FUCK
>Adam's wearing a fucking T-shirt that isn't even his size
Didn't X-Play near the end become super sterile with them wearing suits and dresses?
Actually, I think it was this Rumble Roses clip from the start of this episode, not what I linked initially:

It still feels different than watching a show. Yeah, you can have a bunch of Youtube videos in a playlist or whatever, but they're still separate and isolated from each other. A TV episode could have running jokes or references to stuff that happened earlier.
It's kind of hard to describe, but for me at least, watching something on the Internet and watching something on TV just feel really different. I've never gotten the same comfy feeling from watching Internet reviews that I did from watching X-Play.

I don't remember that about Tommy.
He had a mansion back then? I thought Video Games Live was his big claim to fame. Was he a bigger composer and sound guy back then than I remember?

>Still reviews it on Judgement Day or Electric Playground, can't remember
>Starts masturbating over how they were "one of the few" developers who recorded different footstep sound for different grounds/environments at the time
I love Tommy so much.
When Scott Rubin had that All Games Live podcast it was fucking fantastic when Tommy would get on because the two of them were always breaking eachothers balls constantly.
I wonder of Tommy ever returned the thumbdrive Scott always bitched about. I'll never know.

Long time ago in a G4 nostalgia thread someone posted an archive of a large portion of AOTS. Anyone have a link to that or an archive of Xplay? Nothing better than putting on a bunch of old shows like this while playing vidya
thank you for the nostalgia and the faps g4.it truly the was the golden age of vidya tv.

Cops is great but it was already on other channels frequently enough at that point. It just felt like a waste of a timeslot because of it.
theyre on hulu, but without the commercials theyre worthless to me. it might be getting revived soon, actually.
this video made me decide to keep two boxes of old VHS tapes my grandfather had instead of dumping them. theyre all labeled in chinese and have pretty random shit, movies and such. gone through about 20, kept about 5. found the 98 olympics, OKC bombing memorial and a few decent movies he recorded, among hours of garbage, but i'm hoping i find some kinda historical gold one day

I find myself wondering who the heck ran these shows. Stuff like that isn't immediately noticeable; you have to search for things like that, or even know about them beforehand. Does anybody know what kind of staff ran these shows, and how they picked up their material? I'm suddenly really curious.
>Judgement Day

Aren't there websites and Youtube channels that collect old commercials?
>it might be getting revived soon, actually.
That didn't work out so well the last time they tried it, even though they did do a good job finding hot female gladiators.
I'm not sure but you can really tell that early G4 had a lot passion behind it to the contrary of what the troll in this thread saying it was just fucking bro dude tv
Wasn’t expecting Nanaka Crash
The became (((progressive)))
i doubt it will go well this time, but these kinds of shows have been making a comeback. the rock has one now, not sure how its doing. american ninja warrior is still around, and theres a few mexican versions of the idea
You’re one sounding like the zoomer here.
What kille G4 was any hack being able to get up and talk about video games on youtube. Pre-Youtube video content was pretty trash, only in rare instances was there anything worthwhile.
At this point it wasn’t even common to have a webcam. YouTube sealed the deal for G4. The internet in the mid 00s becoming more accessible to normal folk and then having a reason to spend more time there (online store fronts finally getting decent and more accessible, social media, more people on broadband, sites like youtube that made uploading, watching, and streaming video more accessible).
Most people didn’t have an interest in G4 when it was just gaming and tech shit, hence the syndicated shit like Cheaters, and Cops.
And that tech forward and gaming audience tends to be early adopters of the next thing.
I just don't trust any part of the modern entertainment industry to do anything right.
>replying to a post that's two hours long
if they had a couple netflix ongoing series under the g4 label or made a youtube channel, it could work. they'd be competing with established vidya tubers like dunkey, escapist and all the smaller channels like raycevik, jim sterling and skidonic. they'd also do well to cover other niches like anime, manga, and comics.
reddit spacing. honestly, Escapist basically does this already with their tube channel, even though i haven't watched too much other than ZP. youtube is basically a proxy g4 once you've collected the channels you like watching. i enjoy knowing every wednesday i get a zp vid, skidonic (an underated tuber) is getting pretty consistent, raycevick puts together very well thought out videos. the only disadvantage to these decentralized vidya programs is that the authors aren't in contact with each and there really isn't any chemistry between them like a channel like g4 would promote. If it could be managed to cover the bases that these independent channels do all in one channel while avoiding corporate interference, it would be pretty fucking solid.
theres no reason you should

I'd pay a kidney for a '98-2010 TV package that had every channel playing in real time, probably.
>right you are, ken
that sounds like a fair price.
I liked Adam's revision 3 stuff.
Tara/Max/Adam was kino tier.
>And people used to say Morgan was the poser.
>the only disadvantage to these decentralized vidya programs is that the authors aren't in contact with each and there really isn't any chemistry between them like a channel like g4 would promote. lol
To be fair, most of the Channel Awesome contributors were garbage whose only schtick was yelling at a camera so maybe it could work if you had actual creators on the level of Matthewmatosis
>working first shit job all those years ago
>coming home tired and cold
>wrapping up in a blanket on the loveseat

Jesus it's so weird to be nostalgic for those days but you've done it. Fucking hell. Thanks user.
I've gotten over the whole sess is a fgt thing but is he at least off the drugs? Haven't payed attention to him in years
You started tuning in way too late. There was a time when it was literally all gaming shows and most of which were really unique. Portal, Arena, Electric Playground, Cheat! (before Kristin Holt took over). Never any commercials on the network and just constant video game greatness. My 10 year old mind was blown that such a channel existed and I found it by accident channel surfing.
>Gay jokes
>Fat jokes
>Korean hairdresser joke
>Bush hates black people
>Sessler would later go on to get triggered by a fucking Trophy name in God of War
theres a site that streams episodes 24/7
>We'll never have another G4 again due to the amount of internet usage for media consumption and the changing climate for video game content in general
Keep in mind, Disney XD tried to do this and failed because they couldn't compete with no TV content standards and the fact that they were trying to mostly do shows that followed the Let's Play trend. I imagine even with a G4 revival the same would happen, it'd be a hollow shell of its former self with no identity of its own except potential nostalgia pandering before it quietly died.
could work, but i don't know if i'd really want it too. a fear that corporate influence would take hold is pretty real, look at ign. on the flipside, i've been watching some gaminformer vids on the outer worlds, and they've done a pretty good job covering it. with independent tubers, you know what to expect, so if there's too many cooks in the channel's kitchen, it'll end up being misdirected shit.
hot take: hbomberguy has talent in putting together an argument, if he wasn't such a fucking sperg and had better/more consistent taste in topics, he'd be alright. until then, just watch IHateEverything or something.
Holy fuck, Reviews on the Run was my favourite show as a kid. I think the but I remember most was when Victor and I think Jose were reviewing Chicken Shoot for the Wii and one of them said they would describe a shitty game as "a big pile of Chicken Shoot".

>finding real human connection past random hookups and drinking buddies is impossible
I don't know, user. Personally, I've found more real friends in the past few years than I did when I was in high school.
When you leave school, you realize a lot of the "friends" you had were only your "friends" because you were with them all day, not because you actually like them.
>When you leave school, you realize a lot of the "friends" you had were only your "friends" because you were with them all day, not because you actually like them.
That is a lesson I think everyone has to learn
Wait a second. Since when does FEAR have dual-wielding SMGs?
Why do people always say this? I dont remember people being all cynical and ironic like today even in media
Anyone want to make a cytube that isn't playing a 3 year old playlist with only short Cinematech clips on loop
Yeah, it's something that didn't really occur to me until recently. I definitely had a couple of good friends in high school but, looking back, most of them were more trouble than they were worth, and there was a reason I almost subconsciously avoided them after graduating.
>I am THOR'AXE THE IMPALER

>WOULD YOU LIKE ANOTHER BOLT FROM A GOD, MORTAL?!
imagine those legs around you bros
A good chunk of that is just you growing up (speaking as someone born in '92); noticing more of the bad things in life is just normal.
Not all of it, of course; cost of living is definitely ridiculous, and social media definitely brought some of the worst parts of people into the public eye more. I'm sure it was always there, but the internet makes it far more noticeable, in particular seeming to encourage people to be far more volatile than they would actually be face-to-face.
imagine the smell inbetween.
These aged incredibly fucking well.
Says a lot about today's society when I think Sessler saying retard in this clip would probably offend more people than if he just dropped an f bomb
Yeah, and they took away the more laid-back parts of the set too, like the couch and bar. It was awful.
Posting an underrated G4 waifu
These lists were bullshit though
I mostly agree. Both shows were great, but the dichotomy between Tommy and Victor were more entertaining. They had some clear biases at times, but then again, so did X-Play. Plus, at least it was obvious when a bias arose.
I think Adam took the Sensitive Sess bit too far for too long
youtube.com
I always loved when their scores were completely different
Fuck Disney for killing off Jetix and making it into Disney XD. I'm still mad so many great shows will never be aired again because of them. youtube.com
Wow, does E3 even have booth babes anymore? I doubt it
Jetix was honestly amazing
Diane Mizota was great. She most likely wasn't into vidya, but she was a great presenter.
Also, seems to still be getting decent acting work according to IMDb, so good for her.
>The players don't look like any of the players
>You should be ashamed of yourself
>If you defend this, I'm gonna kick you in the dingus
That's one of the most memorable bits of the show to me. Along with the segment where Victor insisted the Polly Pocket game on the GBA was legitimately fun, and the Advent Rising review (which was one of the clear cases of bias, since Tommy did the sound design for it although admittedly, I really liked the game myself).
>To me, this is really half a game. I mean, maybe it is the *engine* of a good game, but let's finish the job, let's spend the money on the art, let's get the cool intros, lets get good music.
Ha ha. Yeah...
>Portal
Seriously I always try bringing up this G4 classic but nobody gives a shit. One of the best G4 shows of all time.
portal was the only good show on G4
I'm gonna have Cinematech playing on my computer until I fall asleep like the old days Yea Forums
I'm excited
I've never even played this visual novel and I feel sad now
Portal was one of the shows that stuck with me, probably in part because I had a fascination with MMOs in middle/high school. I thought it was pretty cool how it was a show that connected a bunch of MMOs at the time together into a shared multiverse, and had characters like the Drifter that went from game to game. It was honestly pretty clever.
Portal, and the greater G4, sparked my interest in a lot of vidya, MMOs being one of them, and it's a genre I played frequently from my early teens up until recently (I realized that, although the concept of them are neat, a big draw to them for me was that I either had friends I didn't see very often or had few friends to speak of, but MMOs allowed me to connect with people I wouldn't have otherwise, but that's now an obsolete concept to me; also, MMOs have taken a sharp downturn in quality and it's practically a dead genre outside of MMOlites and Eastern vidya).
Apex was such a dumb idea for a villain, but hilarious because of it.
i remember i would stay up so late for that shit, and that one show with gravure idols and the funky and sometimes kinky japanese games. better times could not be had
Funny you mention her, I just saw her on TV the other day too
>this aired on cable tv
which means you better not ban me for this mods
>Beavers
Alright who edited this show?
God wish these games came stateside
I don't know who ran it so I can't answer that. But I don't think it's a stretch that they'd have a weeb on staff who could keep up on Japanese releases and trends for them that they heard about in their forum/hobby/chat circles. If they decided to run a risque block of cinematics and gameplay any type of research into Adult games would have led them to Japanese titles mostly back then too since you never really found many "A" rated games in the West or by Western devs. That's my theory on it anyway.
Seeing Sexy Beach (3 I think?) on it was my introduction to 'proper' (not newgrounds flash type shit) porn games, and I didn't even download it for several years later. I had Bible Black to fap to at the time instead.
Fuck, I was wondering where I first saw Cromartie High School. I think it was on their anime block at one point. One of the few anime shows my siblings would watch with me.

Thanks for the nostalgia user
This entire makes want to push out some primal scream from the bottom of my lungs. Looking at old vids of G4 shows and the vidya industry in general reminds of the good times , and the fact we are closer to shit than we are to sunshine, and it's gonna worse before it's better. Everything in this industry is so damn homogenized and cookie cutter that everything from games to the YT gaming personality all look and sound the same.
>still have a mouse pad signed by Kate Botello
I should go figure out where it is
Don't give up hope user. I used to hope a 2nd videogame crash in the west would maybe fix things and force developers to actually find core audiences instead of mass market appeal, but videogames are so homogenized and boring now I don't think it's gonna happen. For the moment, we still got Japanese games and maybe some indie games.
No, she was busy being passed around the G4 executives so she could get more promotions.
Annoying as hell and the worst part of the channel at the time.
Me too, user
is there an archive of any episodes of the shows? g4 was the coolest shit as a kid and really made me think videogames would continue to progress lol.
>found it by accident channel surfing
That was me when I found X-Play on Tech TV as a kid.
I would say Kevin Pereira was worse.
Not for us user, for the next generation maybe.
I remember when I used to think Sessler was based and funny. Then he started to open his mouth outside of the context of the show and showed himself to be a massive liberal faggot.
I still think a show like AOTS could work. Multiple hosts going over everything in tech with goofy segments or segments focused on a specific topic that reoccur every so often.
This, desu.
The internet was a different beast in that era, video content of any kind sucked ass, no one had servers that could handle large traffic for video content. If you wanted to watch a video you had to download it, and image heavy forums still had warnings for dial up connections.
Interaction was a lot better, precisely because managing a home network took enough skill to keep the average person out of it. I do miss it.
most of the ICONS episodes are on youtube.
