I pirate because why would I spend money on something I could get for free? That's just an extra $60 of disposable income I have. Come at me, fags.
Gavin Adams
I don't care
Grayson James
The only justification piracy needs is:
>I don't want to pay money for games
>I don't have money to pay for games
Anything else is pure gay faggotry.
Levi Myers
What justification. I pirate because I don't want to spend money. I don't care what effect it has because I'm selfish.

But the crossed out text should literally be the entire image?

Meh I pirate because I don't want to pay for games with DRM.
Those are the only games I pirate, besides others not available in my country.
I buy my games otherwise and would buy more if they were available.

maaaaaaaaaaaaaaad indie devs

I wouldn't spend the money on the games i don't buy. Plain and simple. This allows me to play recent games without "falling out" of gaming entirely.

Indie games aren't worth pirating.
They're just mediocre ripoffs of classic arcade / pre-Playstation 1 era games. Why would you buy or pirate an indie game when you can just pirate and emulate the real thing?
Jack Nguyen
>this thread again
>it will inevitably reach post limit because faggots can't resist replying

I'm not fighting a revolution. Fuck DRM and if you put it in a game you are objectively a bad developer and a bad person.
If I buy a game I should be able to play it today or 10 years from now.
DRM is gay and so are you.
Dominic Lewis
I pirate because I have no respect for developers as humans and if I could get away with it I'd literally march into their homes, pop their fucking skulls open with a monkey wrench, and take all of their belongings and cash too. They are all faggots fuck em lmao
Ayden Parker
why do people feel the need to justify their actions? it doesnt effect anyone else on here, if you want to pirate just do it then.

Yes, you believe you're fighting a revolution. Like, you pretend you're el Ché Guevara reborn, peleando por los derechos de los consumidores en contra del imperialismo digial Yanqui or some gay shit like that.

Pirate every game possible apart from games I'm intending to do play online, ps4 exclusives which I get on sale at least a year after release, unfortunately Switch games don't drop in price when I eventually buy that. I don't generally pirate unless what I want is prohibitively expensive or locked behind some kind of package that doesn't have other things I need.
For instance, I'll pay for Netflix and Crunchyroll, because I get my money's use out of them. I didn't get an Amazon sub to watch Inuyashiki though. That's the only anime I wanted to watch that was even locked behind amazon. 3 months of subscription fees for 20 minutes a week is a no go.
Games I almost always pay for, now that I have a job. I don't really have a reason to pirate them. There are so many games sitting in my steam library right now that I have not played yet. This is going to be my first summer since I started driving at the tender age of 25 too. I'm STRICTLY going to stick with dota stacks and phone games after this fucking snow goes away.
Zachary Ortiz
I pirated Hollow Knight. I think it's among the best games I've ever played. I've put around 75 hours into it, and I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Still haven't payed for it. Not gonna pay for the sequel either. Why the fuck would anyone spend money when they don't have to? Everything in this gay world costs money, and if I can get something for free, I would be a cuck if I chose not to.
Suck my dick.
Aaron Garcia
i'm still up $60 lmao, dont have to install bloatware launchers either
Logan Powell
Well what do you expect me to do? Physically go out and shoot-up EA's offices?
Not buying games with DRM is the only non-violent way to stop it. Whether the end-user pirates the game or not is irrelevant. It's someone making the concious choice to not buy a game with DRM depriving the company of a sale, the only language these companies understand.
Bentley Stewart
Piracy is perfection,do whatever you please, perfect for an autoregulative society.
I myself sometimes pirate and sometimes buy,Im sure some people never buy and some people never pirate, its a perfect balance

Because don't want to pay to and nobody can stop me.
Also fuck megacorps.
Charles Williams
Everyone gets caught up on the money aspect of piracy. I don't bother approaching this argument that perspective anymore because it clearly hasn't gone anywhere productive.
I now approach piracy from a copyright perspective. Whether or not someone thinks a game is worth buying, if they pirate it, or distribute the pirated game themselves by seeding or some other way, that's copyright infringement. Even if you think it's the greatest game ever and you love the developers and you're convinced word-of-mouth and passing it around for free is "great/free advertising", copyright law states that it's not up to you. The promotion, branding, products, that's entirely up to the producer of the content. If they don't mind that, nothing will happen, which is why some companies and brands are more lax than others. And no, not prosecuting copyright infringement does NOT mean the holder loses their copyright.
It's up to the copyright holder to know how to sell their product, and they have the inalienable right to fuck themselves over. So if they didn't do enough advertising, that's not your problem. If it is, join the studio that made the game, if you can. Pirating or distributing the game in any way infringes on the exclusive right that the copyright holder is entitled to to distribute the game themselves. So yeah, if they wanted, they could sue for copyright infringement. The ones permissive of that are probably only comfortable because they rightfully believe a vast majority of the public is too stupid to know how to pirate anything, so it won't put a dent in their sales too much.
Colton Jones
What about games that aren't available in certain countries? If there is no option to purchase the game I can't really fault a person for pirating it.
Sure it's copyright infringement, but there are many places where these companies have no presence which it isn't copyright infringement since there is no copyright holder.
This has literally been the case for China until recently.
Julian Cook
Cause it's free u fucking retards
Hunter Bailey
>The ones permissive of that are probably only comfortable because they rightfully believe a vast majority of the public is too stupid to know how to pirate anything
It still seems strange to me that people can't. They love consuming media just as much as we do.
I'm glad they can't/don't of course.
Hunter Ramirez
I only pirate anti straight white male games

Why would you want to play gay white male games?
Jordan Rodriguez
OP is a fag
Luis Watson
>I don't want to pay money for games
>I want to gloat to "moral" autists like OP
Levi Parker
While it's far off from reality, the answer to that would be for people in those countries to make their own games. There's plenty of resources and open-source stuff to encourage just that. Hell, with enough knowledge of Game Maker you could make the core of an action RPG in just a few hours, a few more procedural generation elements and a few months or over a year of making graphics and you got another rogue-like game to add to the glut of them on Steam. As for what you said about other countries and copyright holders, yeah, international copyright stuff can be very messy. Russia and the US don't have an extradition treaty, so the guy that's downloading dozens of US/Japanese made games probably won't face any real consequences.
They love consumption, the world does, it feels like the singularity we're all swirling towards. I remember in the late 90s is was extremely uncool to brand yourself, and here we are, almost into the 2020s, where people divulge every detail about every aspect of their life and look for opportunities to capitalize upon any one of those aspects without even blinking. Instead of competition, there's been more mergers than ever. Instead of more creators among everyone, there's not as much to keep in proportion the population. People love technology, but they don't respect technology. They fear the power it has and what it can do to them, so they're content with letting someone else do everything for them, they'll accept the convenience even at detriment to their own capacity to think and create. Combine anti-competitive legislation and extremely high barriers of entry, we're talking billions of dollars, and you have where we're at now. It's why the democracy of the Internet is at stake, because the powers that be decided we couldn't be trusted with it. And because they conditioned people to think that way, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Chase Howard
I don't pirate games cause I feel morally bad, to not support a developer I don't like like EA, I just don't buy the games

Cameron Hernandez
I don't care what it does for the developers. I pirate because the vidya industry has turned into a minefield of half-finished games, cutting content to sell back as DLC, half-assed and dumbed down sequels, corperate meddling and paint-by demographics and series getting the things that made them unique and interesting ironed out to be more like everything else. Furthermore, the review side of the industry is blatantly in the pocket of the major developers and insists on shilling major releases they've been paid to shill while consistently ignoring or failing to appreciate niche and interesting games. There is simply no guarantee I'll be getting my money's worth for any game I buy without playing it first, and I'm not the kinda passive consumer that will just lay down and let people rip me off when there's something I can do about it.
Blake Cooper

I'll steal digitally if I can steal it, I could care less what you pencil pushing geeks who try to go moralist on Yea Forums of all places says about it either. Digital Piracy isn't grand larceny no matter how you try to pain the image. Musicfags accept and this Moviefags embrace it, so why is it Gaymers get their panties in a knot?

There's another burning question - if you hate a company for its business practices or some other reason, why pirate at all? Because they still might think the game to be fun, right? Or "something to do". But to me, that just feels like they don't really feel as strongly as they believe. It makes me think that if a company they didn't like suddenly made the game F2P (with lots of nickle-and-diming stuff, too), they'd shed those convictions straight away.
Ray Bradbury once said "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them." The same should apply for games. Pirating bad games or good games from bad companies won't do squat. Why? Because they'll continue to aggressively invest and thrive, because in just a few more years the games industry will be valued at $200B. That kind of momentum can't be stopped with pirating. And the powers that be are NEVER going to make games more consumer friendly because they all decided to do something nice for you after they were sitting around bored one day. You have to speak up, you have to start some kind of group or campaign to give power to people who want their video games to not be sliced, diced, half-baked, or any other sort of junk. YOU HAVE TO FORM AN INTEREST GROUP. It worked for farmers, it worked for social workers, it worked for veterans, it will work for gamers like you.
Christian Walker
Piracy is 100% harmless and beneficial to developers. Plus, frequently pirated copies of games work better than legitimate copies, which should never be the case.

Hey man, it's your call. If you want games to get worse and worse, keep doing nothing. Just take a lesson from history and see how other groups got wise and worked hard to make things at least more fair or favorable than what they used to be.
Giving a company attention is only considered good if they get more sales. People drew attention to EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 and their lootboxes and the fallout from that? And how it became so bad that a politician from Hawaii considered introducing legislation to band lootboxes outright? Does that sound like good publicity to you?
Also, it's possible to campaign for a cause without calling out specific entities you consider your opponents. It's that kind of diplomacy that may help your cause instead of being referred to as a bunch of racist/transphobic/misogynist neckbeards. That's why Gamergate failed - the goal was more integrity to so-called "videogame journalism", but instead what happened was that specific individuals were harassed and threatened.
Learn to make your own games. I know that sounds nuts but there's more resources and how-to videos than ever. It might take a lot of time at first, but soon you'll be making simple games to enjoy, or even sell for money so you're not as poor. Reading a page when your four years old sucks. But it's a matter of seconds when you're just a few years older. Same thing with coding, it'll become much faster as you practice.

Imagine if every potential employer you went to said that you had to work for them for free. You'd be pissed and say no, but then they'd just laugh at your anger and say "Whatever, my employees get credit working here to buy food and clothes and other essentials on site, maybe you're ungrateful but there's always someone else willing to take your place, so I'm not worried about you turning me down."
Again, this is what companies ACTUALLY used to do before the rise of unions. They could jack up the credit-based items to put employees in debt so they'd have to stay with the company until it was paid. But people did it anyways because they had families to feed.

Again, it's not wise to argue from that perspective, because someone could pirate a game, play it, and like it so much that they buy AND three copies for their friends so they can all play later. You might scoff at that, but you can't disprove it. It all comes back to copyright infringement and the exclusive right of the holder to control their copyright how they wish for the time they're given. Whether they succeed or crash is on them.

Video games and consoles are more affordable than ever given their price and the rate of inflation, but they're still considered luxury items. In 1995, the Playstation launched for $300. That's roughly $500 today. For contrast, the Playstation 4 Pro is selling for $400.

There's a better way to put it:
Gaming is dead, overrun by the mainstream that eats shit and likes the taste of it. Let them take the bill for development of games, enjoy the benefits.
Only support games when they literally could survive with a few thousands more copies sold, and that's it. 2+ mln copies sold, you're a fucking mong for not pirating.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as piracy, is in fact, prohibited filesharing, or as I've recently taken to calling it, sharing with your neighbour. Prohibited filesharing is not a crime unto itself, but rather another piece of propaganda of a dysfunctional media industry propagated by publishers and harmful laws like the DMCA.
Many computer users make unauthorized copies everyday, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the act which is widely performed today is often called "piracy", and many of the people who do it are not aware that it is basically sharing information with your neighbour, and not stealing.
There really is piracy, and some people are doing it, but it is just robbery at sea. Piracy is an act of theft: an action at sea in which goods are forcefully transferred from one ship to another. Piracy is important to be aware of, but unrelated to unauthorized copying; it can only occur at sea. Piracy is not normally used in combination with unauthorized copying - the two acts are typically separate. All the so-called piracy on the internet is really just sharing with your neighbour.

Can't talk about the other boards but how are anime now? Filled with moebage? There's a reason for that.

>Wouldn't know, I don't pay a single cent for vidya after all.
>Can't afford a new game while still having spending money, and already paying all the other bills.
Sounds like someone is a poorfag

You can spend extra cash for better shit, like painting your walls over and over again because watching paint dry is better than play turds like Anthem and Apex.

You think piracy has a significant effect on the amount of purchasing patricians? It drains from both pleb and connoisseur alike
Nathaniel Peterson
I only pirate something if the game isn't available by any reasonable means, or I need to emulate it for some sort of online play (IE: Fightcade, but I also own most of those roms in some legal form anyways, especially if they're by SNK because I want to support devs that still make good fighting games).
Ian Rivera
where is the part of the spectrum that is;
YOU BUY GAMES USED OR BORROW THEM!
what am i then, assholes...

You really have to wonder how much publisher-hired anti-piracy shills are paid in order to be so relentless with their propaganda as they are on this board.

I really don't see any benefits of buying videogames, only cons. I don't even use Google services much, then why should i install something like Steam or chinese Epic Store Launcher?

I pirate games because I don't have enough money to spend on them, if I had money I wouldn't pirate
Kayden Johnson
i only pirate if i can't buy a game digitally, games like Prey 2006 or Wolfenstine 2009 aren't available on steam anymore so my only option is to pirate
Adrian Long
Imagine feeling the need to justify piracy to a bunch of Yea Forumsirgins. I don't care who thinks it's justified (or not)

>buyfags slave away for their Jew boss and then fork over their hard earned money to other Jews to play games

>every project once pandered to us
>game industry reached where it was in 2006
>every game now pandered to casuals
>industry experienced a flash in pan boom
>hardcores stop caring about brand loyalty because of appeal to casual
>it's all gone downhill ever since
jeez I wonder why AAA games aren't doing gangbusters without scummy DLC practices anymore.
Xavier Cox
I pirate because the generation of my parents destroyed the economy and I'm a broke bum struggling to pay the bills.
Hunter Smith
I'm from Brazil of all places and I pay for may games. I enjoy their work and pay for it, not a big deal.

I pirate older games made by dead companies. Like fuck I'm giving money to EA for killing companies I like.
Gavin Martinez
Being from the third world, until last gen you pretty much had to pirate or you couldn't play shit cause everything was extremely expensive unfortunately.
Nowadays things got better (specially for PC gamers), so i can at least buy games i truly like. Because of that i learned to stop getting garbage liked i used to and focus on games worth a damn, so i don't even feel like pirating anymore.
I mean, why pirate EA and Ubisoft games? They're garbage. I wouldn't even bother wasting my time with them.
Now, i bought Resident Evil 2, played for 70 hours and had a blast. Currently waiting for Sekiro, and that's it.
Ya'll zoomers need to stop playing every fucking game you see. Focus on what matters and you'll enjoy them much more deeply.

I am taking a principled stand and refusing to buy video games because they are bad and also they are expensive and I don’t have the money.
