destroying the integrity of the original series? Nope.

I think so. It used to just be the shitty alternative to decent action games. Now it's the good alternative to shitty walk'n'talks.

Better to be a big fish in a small pond.

had they made the combat be as fluid as it was in its predecessors, sure

>"God of War received universal acclaim for its narrative, world design, art direction, music, graphics, characters, and combat system. Many reviewers felt that it had successfully revitalized the series without losing the core identity of its predecessors. It received a number of perfect review scores, tying it with the original God of War (2005) as the highest-rated game in the series, as well as one of the highest-rated PlayStation 4 games of all time on review aggregator Metacritic. The game performed well commercially, selling over five million copies within a month of release, also making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games of all time."
yes

Fuck no, shit sucked. Combst was ruined and Kratos feels weak and slow ss fuck.

I liked it. Wouldn’t play through it again, but I definitely enjoyed it.

>that blades reveal

Yeah, action games have branched a lot since DMC's release, proving there are multiple ways to make them work without relying on copying. If you want a challenge, it's still there.
It had very little integrity to begin with. It was THE fratbro franchise of 6th gen next to Halo.

This. GoW classic was putrid shit with no depth. At least it can define the walking simulator genre now.

No. They could very well have used a free camera with a wider FOV and still achieved the same scale and atmosphere. The game looks and plays like using a melee weapon in a third person shooter engine.

Yes it was.

The franchise needed to change, 6 games with the exact same gameplay, which while good was getting old.

Resident Evil done the exact same thing and people love RE4 so why not GoW?

>They could very well have used a free camera with a wider FOV
Not with the shitty PS4 limitations. Cory Barlog says in one interview, I think it's the easy allies one, that it's structured that way for easier rendering or loading. Maybe next gen

>THE fratbro franchise

Fratbros didn't play God of War

its a great game. stay seething

it didnt pretend to have depth. it was based jaffes stress relief toy of a game which he crammed full of gore and violence and most importantly fucking tiddies and cunny.

You have no clue what you're talking about

yes the combat is the best it has ever been, but they really need to add a couple more bossfights in future titles.

Yep, not being able to move the camera further away from Kratos is about my only complaint. It's a fantastic game otherwise.

There was no reason to keep it God of War. Kartos being the mc doesn't really add anything to the game imo.

I prefer the old style personally. This should have been a new IP. I don't care for the slower pace and weird camera. I think I generally just prefer arcade-style to realism.

Not in my eyes, I'm not saying I want a 1:1 rendition of the older gameplay but I really didn't like the direction regarding the tacked on rpg element. Story, dialogues and setting were more than alright and it was nice to see Kratos becoming a father again, but I really dislike the new gameplay and the lack of bosses

Yes!

yes, Norse or Egyptian mythology would work fine

If it was a new IP, it wouldn't have had half the impact this one does. Just some norse guy being a single dad vs fucking KRATOS turning over a new leaf, learning to forgive himself, and doing things right without letting his anger get the best of him

The shoulder camera and resultant enemy auto-lock mechanic brought down the actual action experience in favor of a more cinematic one but it was an overall better experience than any of the earlier GoW games

The game being walk and talk, rpg elements is fine for me.

But having over the shoulder for a melee action game is a fucking mistake.
I lost count on how many times I have missed my axe swings early on with how hard it is to gauge the distance between you and your enemies.
It is also a lot more frustrating with how fucking slow Kratos is in this game.

Also they really, really need to add more fucking budget into making more boss fights.
Recycling bosses multiple times for each and every single fucking one of them (except for Modi ang Magni) is inexcusable, especially for GoW games that is known for its boss fights.

The whole plot would have 10% of the weight if it wasn’t about a character that hates gods for reasons we’ve seen, a character we know, that used to go overboard with his rage and cause as much pain as he suffered to everyone around him, even innocents.

God Hand is one of the best action games ever and was over the shoulder.

Yeah it's the best direction to someone who enjoys drinking s'oymilk

I dont get it. the game is playstation exclusive.

Yeah, but it should start resembling what the other GOW games were like in terms of combat and lore.

You type like a third-worlder with a shaky grasp on English, don't try to come up with zingers until much later in life, ok?

t. assblasted sony niggers

As someone whose played all of them including that mistake known as Ascension, yes. I was worried as fuck and still think over the shoulder wasnt the best move desu.

But everything is else is ace from the story to the combat. The main problem was the same was RE7 and thats enemy variety. Doesnt necessarily needs more bosses just DIFFERENT ones and it could probably do with some better puzzles as well.

Story wise, yes. Gameplay, it's debatable. I think they should find a way to rework the camera to work with the axe throwing. I didn't find it as annoying as some have found it, but it got in the way more often than it helped.

I still think if they move the camera back a bit and place in the center, this would improve everything dramatically.

>pic related
Now you're just being a retard.

>Story
Why do people rave about God of War's story? It's so bland. The villain was awful, the entire story is literally "We need to get to the land of the giants, but X is in the way and we need Y so let's go back and find it". This coupled with the fact that Atreus' character completely falls apart at the end has me confused as hell. I didn't like The Last of Us much but at least the characters were consistent and the story wasn't a boring fetch quest.

>God of War 1-3 were mediocre DMC clones
>NuGod of War is a mediocre Last of Us clone

You know who cares about God of War? Babies who couldn't get gud at real mens games. Fact.

Attached: Ninja Gayden.jpg (1204x1108, 185K)

I mean, I wouldnt know why anyone else liked it. The only reason I liked it was due to having played all of them. Guess you could call it fanservice?

>Game has worse enemy variety than Breath of the Wild
>For some reason BOTW is criticized for its enemy variety but GOW isn't
Journalists just want movie simulators. I laughed my ass off when I was told to kill the guardian of hell and it was just the 10th giant I'd fought in the game, the same as the very first boss I'd fought.

They were never meant to be taken seriously as explained in posts above ours. They're just stress relief dumb fun.

It shouldn't have came back at all
Do something new

well he is old, you absolute retard

No it was the worst

the intent of the original god of war on ps2 was to make a movie in the form of a game, so yes

Attached: kratos punch.png (631x544, 442K)

Yes because I don't have to bother with new games in the series anymore.

The original series had boring af combat.

OH SHIT THE CIRCLE PROMPT DON'T BOTHER GETTING CREATIVE OR YOU'LL LOSE OUT ON ORBS
