Did people hate Yooka-Laylee cause it felt too much like a late 90's 3D platformer...?

...like Spyro or Banjo?
What if that's what I wanted all along?
What if those games make me nostalgic?

Did people like A Hat in Time more because it felt original and modern and NOT like a 90s platformer?

Is it also because Yooka has cartoony animals that remind people too much of those 90s games, while A Hat in Time had a more anime feel?

What if I want cartoony animal 90s styled platformers to come back? Am I wrong?

Please help me this has been bothering me all day.

please help me, or I won't be able to sleep at night. I'm serious

bump because this really bothers me

PLEASE SOMEBODY

Idk man like whatever

Please I can't enjoy late 90s 3d platformers if everyone hates it or think they're outdated. I can't enjoy anything if people hate it. I just need an answer. Please.

Being like a 90s 3D platformer isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you take all the flawed and/or dated aspects of them as well, which Yooka Laylee did, on top of having some of it's own problems like fuck-huge levels with barely anything to do in them.

Yeah but isn't it more than a coincidence that AHiT doesn't feel like a 90's platformer and it got praised? It's like people are saying you can't make a good 90's styled platformer or they'll call it a rip off.

In fact, why did people like Spyro reignited if that's a 90's styled platformer? Shouldn't they critique it for the same problems Yooka had?

I read this in vinny's super show voice. also correct opinion

sadly the second part is 100 % correct, + flying as an normal ability to use everywhere is retarded
i really like it tho

Even if YL came out in the late 90s it still would have been shit.

You know I'd rather hear that. but I still think you're wrong, people would be eating it up if it came out back then. I think people think it's outdated and a rip-off.

But I like those type of games and want them to come back.

AHiT is a 7/10, YL is a 4/10
AHiT suffers from a radically inconsistent design philosophy that starts off like super mario sunshine, then becomes linear, then becomes episodic, then becomes branching
I'm sure the devs realized good playground design is hard and semi-linear is easier

Spyro is an actually good game. YL was shit. On that note, HiT Switch fucking when? They said it was coming soon half a year ago

If Spyro came out today everyone would hate it because it feels too outdated.

Spyro came out last year and everybody loved it. Crash sold like hotcakes too

i'm pretty sure it has to do with the complete lack of polish the game had, you can tell they were rushing and trying to cut corners as much as possible, along with some poor ass design choices

>Shouldn't they critique it for the same problems Yooka had?
Maybe if it actually had those problems.

based

I meant if Spyro wasn't a thing until 2018, people wouldn't like it. People just liked it due to nostalgia

No, it's because it felt like an early 00's shitty platformer instead of like the classic 90's ones

double based

Yes I hate them. The first two I played were ok then they were stale and shit. Very little variety or depth to the genre.

>Spyro came out last year and everybody loved it.
Really? A lot of fucking contrarians came out of the woodworks to bitch about the game. Some even calling Spyro 3 "broken like Enter the Dragonfly".

The game is slow for no reason. That energy meter doesn't need to be there, stuff isn't as satisfying, levels are big for the sake of padding.
Dude, who cares what people think about a game? "But x person said it was bad" no. X person might not like the genre or have different tastes. Hell, the game just might not be for them. Your game experiences are your own; dont let others decide what you do and dont like. If people think less of you for enjoying something, those people don't fucking matter.

Allegedly soon even though the director was a dick about it. I gave up on waiting because of a Steam sale even though my laptop is not meant for it.
