How do you pick your main for fighting games Yea Forums?
I wanna fuck leona
Normally I find a move that I really like and go from there.
BIGGEST TIDDIES actually I just try out all the characters and go with the one that resonates with me the most. Sometimes it's a waifu, sometimes it's a big naked grappler man.
moves i'm most comfortable with using
also biggest ass
Design and backstory.
SNK has some damn good characters
Big ass normals and command grabs.
height
I don't play with manlets.
In no order:
Character design
Playstyle (rushdown or shotolike)
Theme
Training mode
>spoiler
It's especially important in anime fighters where it's hard to tell what moveset someone is going to have from their appearance.
With my penis but most of the characters I end up playing fit my play style of unga perfectly.
Jam - Guilty Gear
Makoto - SF4 / 3S
Karin - SFV
Mika - UNIST
Videl (with T.Gohan and Cell) - DBFZ
Mi-na - SoulCal6
Sheik - Smash
...and then King from Tekken for some reason.
Design and personality, personally I can't fucking stand asshole or mega overconfident type of characters
I think they usually have something that sets them apart
In Street Fighter IV I picked Dudley because I thought it was interesting that he didn't have kicks
In UNIST I picked Mika for the same reason (and rocket-gauntlets are cool)
try all of them a bit till I find the one I'm most consistently good with. Otherwise depends on design and backstory
Easiest and cheapest to master.
Example of characters I would never main, King from Tekken.
Whichever clicked with me the most whether it's gameplay, design, backstory, personality or music theme.
Design first. If their playstyle doesn't fit with me then I'll go through the entire cast until I find a playstyle I like.
Though I generally like most characters designs.
Best quotes
>character plays like Ryu or Ken
here's my main
>this pic
Delete.
So... Sean?
whoever I want to fuck the most
females only i'm no faggot
>is there a cunny?
>does the cunny fit my playstyle?
>yes
>pick up (mika in unist)
>no (Makoto in BB)
I can never choose a main in fighting games. I'm horrible at these games so I can't even play like 90% of the casts, and then I have to choose from the really boring simple characters that are often lame as fuck.
hmmmm why is she so popular?
yes, including him
Ryu, Ken, Sean and that french Guile clone were my most-played characters in SF3
She's simply a lot of absolutely dumb fun. There's no other reason. The personality is dumb and fun, the gameplay is dumb and fun, the fucking contrast between her tiny body and those massive gauntlets are dumb and fun. She's dumb and fun.
Just follow your dick, can't go wrong there.
Like this.
I pick with my dick. I only play as girls with big tits or lolis
got the template?
charge characters because I hate myself.
I want Arc System to make good fighting games again
Character Design and playstyle, I like character that are either goofy looking, menancing looking or just a demon
I also like if they are a bit slow and hit hard, Q for example
I mained E.Honda on ST, Sodom in Alpha 3, Q in 3s, El fuerte on sf4, Oni on SF4Ultra and necalli on V although I played more Ryu lately, necalli sucks
I need a new fighting game to get on that inst capcom
>french Guile clone
Yup, Remy is great!
When I was a kid I always picked the protagonists since they were so easy to play as, nowadays I really dunno, pick by the ones I like the design and later complain how bad I am playing with them?
HOW MUCH BASS IS IN THE BIG BOI'S THEME?
A LOT.
youtube.com
Fun to play > She's hot > He's hot > Whatever meta exists
i pick Juri
I don't play fighting games and you also don't. Unless you're retarded or have no life.
i pick the one that lets me spam the same move and win
top tier or high tier with dominant neutral and spacing game
don't care about setplay memes
Man this just reminded me how I hate 90% of the remixes that BBCP introduced.
Character design. If you go by any other quality than that then you're either a tierfag or you're playing fighting games wrong.l
The character with the best walk animation.
>Character design. If you go by any other quality than that then you're either a tierfag or you're playing fighting games wrong.l
Dumbest thing I've ever read. Playing to win is wrong instead of picking your stupid waifu?
Didnt even play it lol. I was just playing blaz blue until Xrd came out.
I won a BB tourney with tager once in houston and got a BB bag. It tore, but the memory of walking in, king of tagering and walking out is still up there with top vidya memories.
Design, then I get familiar with the story of the game. I'd care more about personality but most figthing game characters are pretty meh so as I long as I don't find them annoying I don't really care.
The cool one
granade luncher>biggest array of explosives>anything with splash damage>whatever the first option is
I watch tournament footage until I see some cool shit and think "damn I wanna do that"
That's pretty cool. Most people here drown in pools, or worse don't attend locals like me
>design over gameplay
I play some horrendously ugly motherfuckers just because their playstyle is the funnest, there's no tierwhoring about it.
If he's using his waifu and beating people who "play to win" using the top tiers, then he is a genius. Assuming said waifu character isn't high tier themselves.
Forgot to mention, I also look at tier lists and try to evade A and S rank characters.
Usually character design will be the first thing that makes me interested in a character but ultimately playstyle is what will determine how I pick a character
Just recently I tried to pick up Skullgirls for example, the charcaters I was really interested in using were Peacock, Painwheel, and Big Band since I thought they had cool designs. When playing them though none of them were anywhere near as appealing to play for me as Robo Fortune, a character who is a variant on another character that I didn't care for. Honestly trying to find a main is some of the most interesting time I have with fighting games, rarely does it work out like i ever want or expect it to.
>select fighter who has the design I like the most
>if they are enjoyable to play, main them
>if not, move on the one with the second-best design
And so on.
>I also look at tier lists and try to evade A and S rank characters
This is such a stupid and shitty mentality to have. Play a character because you enjoy them, not because you seek attention for using lesser used characters. You just come off as an attention whore then someone who enjoys a game with a philosophy like that.
Depends on the game, sometimes I go for whoever has a moveset I like, other times I just follow the dick.
I mean, I said I *try* to, most of the time I don't even have to because I like the characters in other tiers more, I just like to use characters that aren't too good because if I do most of the time I don't enjoy playing with them because I know how good they are.
Its cool. I dont play in tournies any more, but there is a cool ass con in Austin TX called classic games fest that just fills a warehouse with arcade machines and old school pcs. shit is cash and I would recommend going to it at least once.
Select random, the character i get is my main
waifu fag/10 probably cant even combo
I wish I could attend locals but I don't even have any here.
>implying picking based off design means only playing pretty characters
>implying fighting style isn't a part of design
Characters are the single most important thing in fighting games. You're supposed to immerse yourself in them. You're supposed to pick a character because they resonate with you, not because you're some tierfagging loser. How they play is holistically tied into that character design. Which is why a bigger character normally is slower and beefier and a tiny pretty "waifu" character has a much more fluid and light fighting style. Unless by "playstyle" you mean fundamentally mechanics, in which case if there's a disconnect between fighting style and mechanics then the game is just shit.
You can play to win without being a tier whore. You just need to get better at using the character you want to use instead of relying on a top tier character.
whoever has the best win animation
Mika players are usually trash
I try every character to see who clicks best, usually starting with whoever looks like a generic jrpg protagonist to get them out of the way.
Tekken was an experience.
>T7
Asuka
>Smash
ZSS and Simon
>SC6
Tira
Don't play the rest.
design. i'll just adapt to the playstyle. unless it's carl.
"You're wrong if you pick the character whose gameplay seems to mesh with you the best no matter what if they aren't visually up to par"
Interested, what instantly turns you OFF a character?
For me charge motions basically kill a character for me, something about them just doesn't mesh well with me.
PANTSU
Terrible voice work is a big turn off.
I don't even know that she is, people post about her a lot but I barely ever saw her in my time playing UNIST, though to be fair that was a while ago and she may have become more widely used, or maybe people use her in CTB, I've never played it so I wouldn't know.
charges are fine to me. I think the thing that fucks with me is charge buffering. Fuck you mean I have to hold back then forward dash into charge back?
I dislike their personality. That can happen for many reasons.
I think for me a turn off is rushdown characters. I like being able to back off and keep the opponent away. I used to dislike charge characters until I looked at the characters I was playing at the time and realised I used charge characters the most.
For me its Bryan Fury!
youtube.com
Leona a best
The one who makes my penis the hardest.
If they look like this, I play them.
Never really been a fan of grapplers.
how'd I do
the only furry with good taste
Belt buckles.
WIDEST HIPS
FLATTEST CHEST
Ur a fucking weirdom, but a potentially cool weirdo. Also possibly a nig
I still don't see her too often in unist either.
I just use cheap or annoying meme characters.
>the only element of design is visual
I've already addressed this in my previous post but I'll say it again. If design and gameplay aren't in synch then the game is poorly made. If I want to play a big tit ninja, then the fighting style should reflect the way a ninja would fight, and the gameplay itself should reflect that fighting style. If what draws me in is some giant muscular grappler, who has the back story of a wrestler, then I should expect the gameplay to reflect that style of fighting.
Visuals AND personality play a role in character design. That personality manifests itself in the way the character fights which should reflect in the gameplay. Characters in fighting games are THE central driving focus of the game. If you can't have fun with the character you like then either you misunderstood the character or the game is badly designed, or you didn't know what you liked to begin with. I never said fighting style is unimportant, because fighting style is part of that character design. That's why I'm drawn to what you would call "waifu" characters, because I like them visually, but they also have the fighting styles I like as well. Rather than brute force they tend to focus on graceful and fluid combat. That works because the character as a whole, as a package, makes sense from a design perspective.
If you're not playing a character because you like what they bring to the table as an entire character, but for some other reason, you're either a tierfag, or you're playing fighting games wrong.
There's no one main draw for me. If the character is cool conceptually to me and has hits that feel extremely strong, than that's the character I play. As long as they're not big mclargehuge or a grappler.
Thank you. I am having a hard time accepting that technically I am a furry...
Charge characters and grapplers are an instant no from me. Also frame heavy execution characters. My old man hands can't deal with it
what it seems is that you are at a cross roads.
Just know that gadget while a hot furry mouse is also just a caricature of a hot blonde girl. Which ever side you lean toward more will decide your destiny.
dem dick sucking lips
Great taste.
just frames
>another King patrician
I see you are a man of culture.
Who is the heaviest boy and how hard does he hit
weirdo is right but I am the palest of the pale
Big boobs are nice, but mainly I like to be able to run a proactive, 50/50 vortex. I don't like reactive play. To be able to recreate consistent setups where I can condition my opponent and don't actually have to react to what they're doing, at least to the minimal extent possible. I hate reactive gameplay.
Goat taste. The hit hard and trick the opponent into walking into your fat fist is the best play style.
classic Leona had a god-tier design, I don't know why they ruined it by making her a titty monster, that's just tasteless
always go for the edgy ones
I pick the character that I think looks coolest.
Do I like their design? Does their moveset even somewhat resonate with me? Boom, I main them. until i decide that I'm doing myself a disservice and pick a character that is more my playstyle
I typically like characters with good pressure that slow the match down
uptempo characters
It's so satisfying desu
That and sometimes there's a bullshit character like Iron Tager who can pull an opponent close them grapple
Depends. I usually try them all looking for the characteristics I like. Mainly oddities and long term tools like stock systems, controllable projectiles, etc. (e.g. May's dolphins, Nine's spells and Mina's falling arrows). I also like puppets/pets in concept but I rarely feel comfortable wit them. If I don't find it I just follow my heart and go with whatever character I sync with the most.
>bullshit character like Iron Tager who can pull an opponent close them grapple
post related is me It seems we would be bros. add me on steam steamcommunity.com
Big body, grapplers, charge characters, puppet characters.
u forgot that you're a filthy WAIFUFAG
sexy logos
I almost forgot battle fantasia was a thing
i tend to go for
>well rounded toolset
>solid pressure
>cute/funny
>a cool gimmick can be a plus
i enjoy good pressure so sometimes i think i like setplay characters but when trying them it doesn't seem like it.
so i guess i like well rounded chars.
Filthy transfag*
You guys always guess wrong.
Shotos and agile characters.
I need to change Samsho for V SP to make space for the new one. I'm pretty sure Mina won't be in there.
At least she doesn't have the stupid cans anymore.
And she is stoic as always has been.
the guy with cool martial arts moves
akira should have been in tekken instead of dumb shit like noctis and negan
>not liking the canned goods
>waldstein and birdie
Literally me
You like god buttons.
The buttons that let you control stupid amounts of space and generally do everything but your laundry for you.
And i wanted a yakuza.
Why the fuck did they negan of all the choices in the world.
I love fighting games but suck in them.
So I pick the ones that move like Terry Bogard
For me?
1. Big tittied girls
2. Proud stoic knights
You ever seen Charlotte from Samurai Shodown?
I think everyone was expecting Kiryu or Majima
Leona is cute
I alternate between characters I think look cool and those who have long pokes / space control.
How the hell do you all play multiple fighting games? I can't even do decent in 1.
I'm self-aware enough to admit that I'm a bit of a contrarian so it won't be something super popular. Though I still won't pick something absolutely low tier because of that so it would be something between low-high tier to mid tier.
Some games come and go. Needless to say I don't play SF4 anymore (or any SF for that matter). It's also really easy to pick up games when you already played enough games. Specially the simpler games like SF. Currently I stick to GG, Tekken and a little bit of Unist (as the game is pretty match dead for regular matchmaking, hopefully it being at the EVO main stage brings the numbers up a little).
For me, I learned one pretty strongly to start out, then it's an easier matter to transfer some of that skillset to other games. I started getting good at GG, then branched out to Tekken, SoulCalibur, and DBFZ. Still booty at street fighter though, which I'm really trying to work on
I mess about with each character until I find one who clicks
but I'll admit I try usually try the girls first because I'm a pathetic fuck
I always select at random because I take too long to choose
Design first.
Big damage second.
I more often than not end up with lower tiers, but it has never failed me in terms of satisfaction with the game.
GG? more like BG
I don't really have an archetype, but cool characters that have satisfying, beefy, hitstun on their moves.
I've just played each as they came along over the past 25~ years, rarely playing two or more at the same time in any serious capacity. Even with a whole lot of fighting games from the 90s starting with SFII, I didn't really understand fighting games at all until at least the early-mid 2000s after clocking in a lot of time in GGX, CvS2 and MvC2. After some unnoticed epiphany, I seemed to be able to figure out any new fighter in no time.
Only ones I'm playing now are SC6, UNIST and FighterZ. I don't have any local scenes nor active arcades within waling/driving distance like I used to, so it's just dicking around online and I gave up on consoles last gen, so if there isn't an active PC playerbase, the game is basically dead for me
I like straightforward, easy execution characters with a simple gameplan and uncomplicated win conditions.
Who ever the biggest weirdo is
I go straight for the grappler/the biggest freak
I base it on a handy guide:
Does the character look cool?
Do I like their moves?
Cutest girl + most fun moveset (usually zoners)
Pic related is my favourite fighting game character. My favourite girl and the ultimate zoner.
At the end of the day whoever "feels" right.
But whoever feels right usually goes under these two categories.
>You can play to win without being a tier whore. You just need to get better at using the character you want to use instead of relying on a top tier character.
>picking top tier characters is bad and you should only care about how characters look!
scrub mentality
The most stylish one
whoever is easiest
The first one is the hardest. Once you get over the first barrier to entry of just getting your brain thinking in the right lines for neutral and confirms and all that fighting game shit, learning a new game is just mechanics
:^(
@453150991
based
meant for
Appealing design and how good their buttons feel. I like the monster or weirdo characters like Merkava except GG where I play Jam.
Depends. Weapon wise whatever it sticks with me after trying every character
A normal fighter, 2d or 3d, usually someone based on kicks. Sometimes the Bruce Lee or the old master artist of the game, even a grappler like Wolf or Tina
>Leo
>Akatsuki
>Necalli
>Azrael
>Dr.Mario
Whoever can get up close and shit out damage.
