Terraria?
>Non-linear sandbox without an open world
Fucking uh....
Wyrm?
Dunno man, Terraria's progression is pretty linear. Most content is blocked off until you meet the requirements.
waking mars
super mario maker
dwarf fortress
The same can be said of Metroid
The same could be said for Metroid though. Besides, in Terraria you can literally skip some bosses to progress
>metroid
>non-linear progression
Plenty of games are "nonlinear" when you sequence break, which isn't how they were intended to be played
unironically wurm
scribblenauts
Subnautica
can v solve this?
Hitman isn't an FPS, even MGS would fit better
Dishonored?
KSP
Rimworld?
Thief?
Dying Light.
Warframe
Mount and Blade is great but I hate Sid Miers Pirates because it's all shitty mini games

Add Thief to that.
Kenshi?
Roller Coaster Tycoon. (Or game sin the same genre, so open coasters etc.)
terraria
Tycoon games in general.
Where exactly is the difference between open world and sandbox?
open world
>walk around in this empty map to reach the next mission
sandbox
>you can do ANYTHING
katamari?
jc2?
dorf fort?
terraria?
Sandboxes are usually filled to brim with stuff to do while open world games content can vary drasticly with entire landscapes worth of area that might have nothing to do with what your trying to accomplish.
Dwarf Fortress.
Dragon Quest Builders
non-linear sandbox with stages
Super Mario 64?
>Open World
Literally just a map that's big and you can travel anywhere in it.
GTA, BoTW, Etc. You know what this is.
>Sandbox
The ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want. There is no end goal to achieve, the end goal is whatever you want it to be.
For example Minecraft, there's no goal, you just do what you feel like until you stop playing.
Runescape, again, you make up your own end goal, maybe you want to be 99 woodcutter, or a quest doer, or a slayer, you do whatever you want.
The key difference is "What is the player expected to do?".
In a game like GTA, the goal is to complete missions till you've completed the game.
BoTW, again, complete objectives, do the dungeons, fight the final boss. It's not sandbox because their's a specific end goal in mind you're grinding towards. Once that's completed you've completed the game.
Minecraft doesn't have this, there's no missions, no goals, no nothing, you're not told what to do or how to do it, you can build a base if you want, or you can travel the world if you want.
Well not every tycoon game is a sandbox type.
I can only eally think of railroad and zoo tycoon.
Super Mario 64 isn't sandbox, but it is non-linear.
Viva Pinata.
Build and bring in what you want into your garden, but hit enough conditions to keep leveling and unlock more creatures.
It's kind of like a sandbox
You're tossed into a stage with multiple different stars to get with no real singular way to get them aside from a hint towards the intended method
Just jump in and do whatever
