So we all agree that Dark Souls 2 was the ugliest looking title in the series?

THEY FUCKING REMOVED THE PILLARS ON THE BOTTOM
THEY JUST REMOVED THINGS FOR NO FUCKING SENSIBLE REASON

Demon's Souls protagonist would have hopped over that

It looked worse than Demon's Souls.

>that part in DS3 where the statue slits its throat into"the basin of vows"
>drops a 7 ft ladder
why are they so retarded with this shit?

And put a large black mesh there instead, misplaced the walls, misaligned the bottom of the columns and forgot to add a rain effect in the windows.

Just because it's a high fantasy world doesn't mean that the forces that be can afford to not be cheap.

Did people not understand the whole
Time and space is crumbling under the curse so the places you visit are essentially non-euclidean?
Like, no shit the levels don't make sense in their spots when compared to another. You're stepping into the important places of the continent throughout shattered time. We need spiderman up in Drangleic.

Attached: GOD I'm happy.webm (1280x720, 471K)

this is a pretty shoddy excuse clearly made up after the fact. If they wanted to express that, then they should have made the actual levels non-euclidean in a tangible way. Think Thief's The Sword mission.

Then they did a piss-poor job if their "dream-like, surreal fantasy world that doesn't make a lot of sense" manifests almost entirely in nondescript elevators and corridors.

user, in all games that is the case, both DaS and DaS3 is correctly interconnected, even places like dreg heap and ringed city, taking place when the universe is basically on it's last legs don't have shit like this.

it was originally supposed to reveal stairs but they cut it for some reason

Absolutely.
I learned to love the grotesque style it has, but yeah I don't know what the hell happened with Fromsoft's graphics and art teams.
even when it tries to be pretty like in Majula it's this cloudy piss yellow mixed with cat vomit.

fucking moronic cop-out. none of the levels are even slightly non-euclidean so sticking them in some fucking retarded order doesn't magically make them interesting.
it's funny too how all these important shards of history all contain the same enemies and are all in an equal state of ruin. it's almost like the game is just rushed and poorly stitched together to meet deadlines.

Don’t ever play RE4

It was made by the Z-team.

Honestly, i think all these issues are more related to the technical aspects of making the game than art direction itself.

DS1 Remaster killed the series. It was on Nostalgiafag lifeline for a long while.

But it was a huge plot point of the first two games "time is convoluted"

In 1 it was mostly a handwave for the multiplayer component and in 3 they put in some actual effort to give you the feeling of shit being fucked up instead of poorly connecting some actually quite mundane areas with nonsensical loading corridors.

good job just ignoring how walking through a door in ds1 will completely change the time of day. couldn't have done it better myself.

I thought it was the whole plotline for anor londo

Oolacile, the talking cat, Sif, and those forgotten woods in general. Also the Crestfallen man and trusty Patches.

what the fuck, it was simply re release for current gen consoles

Threads like this just motivate me to replay DS2.
Truly the best game in the series. People who were molested at young age will disagree.

Yikes. You can tell that in Bloodborne's DLC. Everything's a mishmash and the Hamlet is on top of the nightmare, like how dreams work in Bloodborne. Dark souls 2 is just garbage in every way.

Bad bait

What's the deal with the running animation on those soldiers outside of the ruined fork bonfire?

falconers dabbing with their legs

what the FUCk is wrong with the ds2 devs? most important room in the game and THATS whatthey do just WEHA THE FUCK

look, i love ds2, but that shit is so inexcusable. ok, it slips through release, fine. patch it a week or so later. but nope. just gonna leave the team america world police legs in permanently.

Looks pretty bad, but still has the best and deepest gameplay in the series.

Why do people praise DaSII's level design again?
It was absolutely awful.

ds2 forgot that furniture exists. They tried too hard to make every room a combat scenario or whatever and only placed barrel bombs or poison jugs as destructible objects.
It totally ruins the immersion, so many rooms with just dumb barrel bombs for no fucking reason

Attached: 1452166513827.jpg (480x365, 19K)

someone post that DS2 webm of the castle where a door literally just leads to a fucking 3 foot drop into the next room so you can't get back in

Drangleic Castle as a whole is godawful if you take a closer look
>enemies consist mostly out of rehashes from across the game
>odd dead end corridor on the outer wall
>part of the outside looks like they added the wrong textures
>giant low-res rock that's covering up the once planned secondary way to enter the castle
>pathetic looking throne room
>multiple square storage rooms with statues
>mask trap room that feels like something Wile E. Coyote would come up with
>that fucking Nashandra portrait room
>random acid-puking statures
>another audience room atop the castle for whatever reason right next to the treasury
>overly long elevator with multiple mirrors that leads to the royal gimp room
>side room where someone forgot how stairs work
>stair hall that has the Executioner Chariot walking around for some reason
>geometry missing or clipping through walls and ceilings everywhere
>placeholder textures and doors that don't work properly leading up to King's Passage
>nearly everything about King's Passage

I actually kinda like the way it is in ds2. It makes me feel like I'm walking into some desolate shithole because the fire is fading and the world is about to die instead of walking into some "forgotten about" castle that's just as resplendent as when the fire was at its brightest.

Yea Forums I watched all three Berserk Golden Arc movies and now my interest in Soulsborne games has been revived.

1. is there any armor that looks like Guts'?
2. should I watch the anime, the other movies, or what now?

What's the lore behind this?

How is this any different than say, a locked wooden door in a Resident Evil game when you have a shotgun?

hollows have shit taste in alcohol

I actually like the second one here. It's a clever funny one-time "gotcha". Like you're so eager to get to a bonfire that you run straight to it without realizing you're now trapped in an entire different roundabout area full of PvP trolls just to get out.

ok so lets say you do the things ppl do in thsi webm what then? how do you ge tout? is there teleporting from the start of the game in ds2?

Most Dark Souls 2 art and models were contracted to Taiwanese studios. It's why everything looks like it came out of a budget chink MMO.

>shitsouls2_40
>40
Post the others please

Oh god, I've played through the game almost 3 times now and I never realized how bad the tiling on that texture is.

> is there teleporting from the start of the game in ds2?
Yes
>how do you ge tout?
You take the long sideway through the area until you're back where you were.
The big issue people have with them is that this shit looks intentionally designed instead of something like a broken, deteriorated flight of stairs or a colapsed floor.
It's especially offensive in the first one where the stairs go away from the doorway for no reason.

I really don't understand the purpose of making maps like this. It does fucking nothing, the player can go back by just using homeward bones, and you also don't get immediately ambushed going through that step anyway. It really serves no purpose beyond stopping the player from going back.
it's a bonfire, you can teleport from it, the player isn't stuck there at all. The whole pvp area is completely optional.

Manga and never speak of those movies again.

> It really serves no purpose beyond stopping the player from going back.
In the Iron Keep case it's also a "fuck you" to people that decided to skip/ignore the Smelter Demon.
If you decide to drop down, thinking that this is the next proper bonfire, you're forced to go through Belfry Sol or warp back and do the whole shitty Allone Knight area again.

It still hurts.

DS2 looks like shit cos they butchered the lights for the sake of consoles. Also rushed like hell.

You guys spent a lot more time caring out environment details than me. After I got used to the stylistic and gameplay changes in 2, I played through it til the end, loving it all (or at least most of) the way.

Even without the lighting the textures look like shit with no care for detail or variety, and that wouldn't fix the shitty level organization, which makes absolutely no sense.

And them being lying incompetent dumbfucks

gameplanet.com.au/xbox-360/news/g51671efa40b72/Dark-Souls-II-PC-is-lead-platform-will-run-at-60-FPS/
>the engine was not created with a next-generation focus.

ign.com/articles/2014/02/26/dark-souls-2-engine-created-with-next-gen-in-mind

Listen up you single-digit IQ DS2fags, it's about the intent.

Sure, walking into Darkroot Garden and finding it midnight doesn't comply with physical reality. It is *clearly* a stylistic decision to add atmosphere, so please look past your autism and think about what the designer intended. You think they accidentally added a moon? That they just forgot to add lighting to the area, or forgot about how time works? No, because that's retarded. It's a fantasy world, and while each area is dressed with broad brush strokes as it's own stylistic canvas, it is still a consistent part of the world itself.

Take No-Man's Wharf. It is underwater, because?. . .
What design purpose does it serve? What did they mean to tell by having it be geographically below the ocean, but not really? What about the DS2 journey has this make sense? The simplest and truest answer is that it is a mistake. They ran out of time, and rushed the job in a way that shows the placing of the Wharf was not deliberate.

Ash Lake IS deliberate. It's supposed to be a magical, fantastical contrast to the shithole that is Blighttown and going down the giant tree. They didn't ram it in there between the Undead Parish and Sen's Fortress. For anyone with eyes, you can see the designers knew what they were doing. Comparing something like Drangleic Castle to the fishing hamlet is disingenuous as hell.

There is simply little to no explanation, in-game or otherwise, for the inconsistencies of DS2's world. It is just poor craftsmanship. And you know what? Even if they did make sense, they are still lame and lazy as hell. There's nothing fascinating or clever about gray-textured hallways leading into different themeparks that are completely abandoned from the main world. The world failed to achieve the high marks set by DS1. Just fucking admit that, and defend the parts of the game that are actually good.

Attached: ds2e3.jpg (800x443, 89K)

It looks like shit, it plays like shit, and it long overstays its welcome. Oh, but it's way better than DS3 because LOL fanservice guys, amirite?!

DS2 is easily the worst of all the games (BB and DeS too), but it's still fun

I'm sorry you had to write so much about bullshit. Ds2 is known to be terrible, yet these contrarians keep trying to say it's a good game. It simply isn't.

DS3 had its issues too, it's probably my favorite of the 3 but I like'em all. 2 had some of the best DLC segments, I'd say it was on BB's level. Otherwise DS2 only really had Aldia and Vendrick's story being beacons of quality (Aldias being DLC devalues this, I liked Vendrick quite a bit though). The Ivory King was also a radical dude, and the story of Allone was similarly well handled, but again, it was all DLC.

you're objectively wrong because it's subjectively my favorite.

Given that night/daylight illusions exist as seen in Anor Londo it's not too much of a stretch to think that the same also applies to Darkroot for whatever reason since it ONLY affects that forest.

Vendrick's dialogue is all DLC too.

my biggest problem is that drangleic castle doesn't feel like a lived-in place at all. it's a funhouse, not a castle. which I suppose you can say about every ds2 area except majula and maybe eleum loyce.

I didn't like the fact that you actually got to speak to Vendrick, you just reminded me that it was even a thing. There was more than enough to glean his intentions without it, and he doesn't really do anything other than spell the plot out which is so fucking awful honestly. If only he could have told us what he stole or something, but I guess that's asking for too much alternatively.

This actually got me looking up the Ivory King's story again, I forgot how much of a complete badass this guy was.

Attached: ivory keign.jpg (1000x563, 117K)

Either it was your first souls game or you are mentally ill.

well im on Yea Forums so the latter is a given

>"Hey Tanabe-san, those rafters in Aldia's Keep are godawful looking! Don't you want to change them before release?"
>"Don't worry, no one is going to look up in this area!"
>"But then why did you add the butterfly up there?"
>"Shut the fuck up, Takumi."

Attached: 20170217205504_1.jpg (1920x1080, 385K)

The whole "time and space is crumbling" bit really doesn't feel like a part of the story as much as it feels like a throwaway excuse for geography inconsistencies. As said, it'd work if weird shit was actually happening as you go through the levels, like you turning impossible corners that make you stop and try to place yourself, or finding someone's corpse before you meet them in person.

It's a sealed castle of a once powerful nation, nigga. Even if it became completely desolate it should still be choke fucking full of details and items. DS3 did it well and Lothric Castle still feels like a place where normal people once lived since there's even a dining room inside barracks and a quick shortcut from the guardian quarters right to the throne room.

If it wasn't for stuff like the throne room one could at least come to some half-assed conclusions like "you're not actually traversing the real parts of the castle that are locked off and you're taking a detour though its warehouses and storage rooms instead!" but holy shit, this thing is just beyond sad to look at.
