The game really picked up for me in the desert after grinding alterated artes and master the manual cancel technic. I still dislike the story pacing, backtracking and non stop chain cutscenes but the characters do pick up too eventually. Still not a fan of Karol though

Im a avid symphonia fan and the whole arc 1 suck ass until you get FS gameplaywise. Story doesnt pick up until arc 2. I feel like the world map is a big empty field(that could be said from synphonia too) but I dont know, just seems worse here.

Brionac gives the skills Aerial Combo 3 and Aerial Armor which gives more attacks and no staggering midair. These skills do help a ton, and she is pretty useless without any of her aerial skills which takes her a while to get any of them.
She'll rejoin soon enough at Mt. Temza then she'll be permanently in your party unless I'm forgetting something.

Im only in it for the gameplay personally. I was finally conviced in the desert. You finally get some skills to learn alternated artes and theres this sweet regen savepoint in the middle of the desert. Thats where I finally had a fun grind and mess with the strategy setting for each character. Also elemental bursts artes appear with lvl 3 overlimit. Anyway, I'll just say give it another go someday. The thing with RPGs is that its hard to comeback into it in your current save file.

I dismised Repede at first but he really is my favorite team member now. Always comboing up well and holding other enemies on his own with amazing speed + the extra general support things you mention.
Patty gives makes me laugh in battle but im just no gambler man. Good mechanic ideas there though. running yuri, estellise, repede and patty and go for those partnership skills atm.

Patty is the best AI caster in whole game.
Disable all artes other than Gamble Cast and have Brainiac Spell Select. She will relentlessly shit out high tier magic and occasionally full heal/tp heal the entire party. Literally never took her out of my party after that and ditched both boring ass Estelle and Rita.
Rita X repede is best pair.

She certainly has more personality than a walking plot device and another plot device who barely changes over the course of the game.

Yuri gives him the responsibility because he knew it would either forge him or break him, no matter what it'd stop him from being the cowardly little shit that got thrown out of every guild. He constantly tried to swagger about and claim he was awesome and while other guilds let him make an ass of himself and get disowned Yuri purposely put him in a position where he can only succeed as guild master or fail and quit the guild instead of being fired, which would be the only real nail in the coffin he'd understand.
Because he's an easy target. He's the only character in the party younger than her(excluding Patty by technicality and because she barely has any interactions with Rita to begin with), so she feels like she can tease him and hit him to let off steam because she's a hormonal teenager who still hasn't gotten a grip on human empathy, and he barely retaliates. You read into it as her being a cunt and actively hating Karol when she probably likes him just as much as anyone else in the group, save Estelle, and just has difficulty showing it because he's a boy around her age. I think for some bizarre reason you're self-inserting as Karol and I have no idea why you would do something like that.
Also, the game itself routinely shits on and makes fun of him, so it's just as much for comedic purposes that she acts that way towards him as it is for narrative purposes. The game jokingly making fun of Karol is absolutely different from how Rita handles him. The only case of hardcore bullying you can do is dressing him like a girl. He's always portrayed as a cowardly but very useful character who knows a lot about the world and has lockpicking skills which helps the party many times during the adventure.

It's weird, some people have had issues doing the tidal wave spam in the remaster (me included), where the OL gauge just doesn't fill at all past certain point. In this webm, for example, the OL gauge stopped filling altogether aside from taunts from the other party members.
Meanwhile, other people have had no issue using the same old strats from back in the day.

I don't use it for map navigate. Thumbstick kinda sucks for battles because I'm usually jumping when I don't want to. So I get frustrated and switch to dpad for battles, but then I hate how shitty the dpad is for map. And I switch back. They both suck. Also, I went all manual back then.
