It's definitely the best example of what happens when you continue to buy a product despite decreasing quality and zero innovation.
Theres no bigger suckers than the pokemon fanbase, they will buy this, and the next game even when they turn out to somehow have even less features than the last.
>Blackout
>Lights still on
>Somehow stops me from walking along the street, outside
Stop this shit, just let me go wherever without these retarded blockades.
I remember buying this in a sale a while ago
Is it any good?
Pretty sure the people who make Neptunia games are worse.
I bought recently too, let me know if it's good.
Definitely worth a try. Combat is pretty tedious, but writing, characters and setting more than make up for that IMO. I'd say it's a classic on par with VtM:B which got undeservedly forgotten
>tile-by-tile remake of a gameboy game
>with LESS content and features than the 15 year old GBA remake of the same game
>costs $20 more and an extra $50 if you want Mew
Why is this allowed?
It would be ok if they gave all the pokemon detailed animations for each attack but they skipped that because too hard
It's even better when you see other NPCs casually strolling past him
Maybe people just have gold plated window covers?
Because people will still buy it regardless, so why would they put the extra effort in?
I know I wouldn't either if I were in their place.
all the pokemon models and 99% of animations are taken from the 3DS games anyway
LGPE might be the laziest successful video game of all time
>Bethesda exists.
>>Bethesda exists.
At least Bethesda games look like they were made in the last millenium.
Pokemon is literally the best selling video game franchise of all time. They have no excuse.
>implying
It's not much worse than "I haven't had my coffee yet so you can't pass!"
Implying what? You know that game was also made by gamefreak?
you manbabbies are playing a game for CHILDREN. Since you all seem to undeveloped and immature to realise, all CHILDREN'S material features the same tropes and plot tools as everything made for CHILDREN ever, since children being new to the world and all.
You lot, on the other hand, are not new to the world and if watching Barney the Dinosaur all your lives hasn't release you from your cowardly refusal to grow up, then the autism is too deep and you must leave this place
>FRLG was 15 years ago
Where does the time go?
>he says while shitposting on a tibetan finger-painting wall on a weekend
You all realize they're not allowing niggers into the area, right?
Is DQ really a low-budget game? I thought that series was the most popular in Japan.
they had the animations since Stadium.
whats that got to do with being a CHILD
I'm willing to give them leeway over X and Y because it was the first fully 3D main series game so they had to make a shitload of new fully animated models
After that though it's just been pure laziness from what I can see.
At least this one is almost humorous
>On the rocks
>Every mainline DQ game sells at least 3 million copies in Japan and the franchise is a household name.
At least make your bait believable.
It's almost like that's exactly what fans want. Look at the annual sports games and shooters to further prove that point.
As much as some people like to believe that innovation and exploring new territories is what the game industry needs, that just isn't true for the business side of the spectrum. If you want to run a successful business in the gaming industry, you are pretty much restricted to pushing out the same tired old shit over and over again to guarantee good sales.
Lemme guess, you'd love to see an open world Pokemon game co-developed by Monolith Soft with realistic graphics and the chance to be a Team Rocket villain.
Pokemon is so fucking lazy. I hope no one buys the next entry so that Ganefreak gets their ass into gear and makes a game actually worth playing. Their laziness is inexcusable but they won't stop pumping out mediocre shit until the money stops printing.
The majority of posters here are children, considering the amount of broken English, edgy racism, and obsession with porn
>>Every mainline DQ game sells at least 3 million copies
Which is nothing for a triple-A game.
Pokemon games sell at least 30 million copies, 10 times as much.
>Which is nothing for a triple-A game.
>Using the bloated cancerous standards for LCD trash to shit on DQ
Some games would kill to average three mil in sales.
No, they almost certain put a huge amount of time and energy into Pokemon games. They're just absolutely fucking incompetent. This is literally their limit, the best they can do.
>They handoff to another team for a sequel
>BW2 ends up as a game that makes huge leaps in polishing and actually using the mechanics of the game to provide a solid challenge, while also making it more accessible for newcomers
>Next game comes out
>Every single innovation has been thrown out and we're back to business as usual
>But we have rollerblades!
>BW2 ends up as a game that makes huge leaps in polishing and actually using the mechanics of the game to provide a solid challenge, while also making it more accessible for newcomers
Literally how? It was just BW1 with more routes and dungeons plus a big fanservice tournament for the postgame. It even threw out the ballsy soft reboot BW1 attempted
Not that it was bad, but it wasn't innovative at all
Ok fags, i havent played a pokemon game since pokemon ruby, so i wanted to play one of the new ones. Which one is better XY or USUM?
Both trash, play BW2 instead. It's the last time gamefreak actually cared
XY are both pretty good, USUM not as good
how can there be a blackout when electric pokemon exist?
Man do I hate the (wo)manchildren keeping this company afloat.
The gym leader of that city is even electric type
fucking gamefreak
BW2 is the best and also last good game
It's meant to read "There's a black out."
They were just protecting the trainer from getting beheaded/acid attacked.
Yes. Even Bethesda isn't nearly as lazy as Game Freak. Game Freak's the most overrated company there is, and gotta love it how people keep trying to say that they're this poor indie company with a niche IP.
Only innocent children don't partake in racism
>Defending the company that put out Fallout 76
Holy shit the contrarians that browse this board.
>extra $50 if you want Mew
how do you get mew in LGPE?
if you're so enlightened, why are you here?
Never said I'm defending them, just that Game Freak is worse.
Point out one instance where GameFreak released a game on par with Fallout 76, bugs, glitches and all.
buy the pokeball plus controller (which can only be used for LGPE as of now)
Don't forget being able to go to every region.
what game?
I'm not seeing any glitches or bugs, just a small lack of effort for an otherwise functional game.
let's not forget that the blackout is for you and only you
youtu.be
>small lack of effort
>small
I don't even know what the fuck I'm supposed to be looking for in half this shit, where are the bugs and glitches, half this shit is just screenshots of the game? A pikachu in the air with balloons is a glitch you dum nig? All I see is you being a whiny baby, no wonder they think you need friendly rivals you soft puss
You heard. Once again, point out an instance of a Pokemon game being as buggy or as glitchy as Fallout 76.
Cry more /vp/. Damage control harder.
Gen1?
Anachronox.
Both of those are garbage. XY is literally the agreed upon point that the series fucking died. Just play Platinum or BW. Or Heartgold if you liked gen 2 enough and want a solid modernized version of it
100 points to you for solving the puzzle.
t. someone who was there at Gen I's release. If they released R/G/B today, Yea Forums as it is today would never let GameFreak live it down.
even so the comparison is fucking retarded. FO76 is just insanely buggy for an AAA game. Any other game would look like a monument of stability next to that piece of jank.
And its not just about polish. Its about having so little innovation in a series. If you look at shit like metroid, zelda or mario, you can see how far you can stretch a game without ruining its core. Its sad that gamefreak plays it so safe. Playing crystal clear romhack just shows how much they can change
>everything is okay guise
>sucking gamefreaks cock this hard
retards like you are the reason gamefreak doesn't even try anymore and they just release incomplete games
It's their standard design since day 1. At least it's not just a completely random guy that stops you and keeps you prisoner in Viridan City because he hasn't had his coffee yet.
Nigga you dumb? The only glitch I ever ran into that game back when I played it was an item dupe glitch. Everyone was happy to have 99 rare candies.
You won’t change their mind. Clearly, most people went, “There’s a space I can get through though!” and then turned around to see what they missed so they can unlock the next route.
That user brought up Fallout 76, not me.
Yet if Gen I were released today, you know full well you'd have threads with the usual shitposting fare. Your childhood was shit.
I miss old Naruto.
As other user said, the pokeball accessory.
To make matters fucking worse though, if you want a true 100% complete LGPE dex with Mew in it, you HAVE to spend the $50, you can't transfer the mew you get in Pokemon Go to LGPE.
So they lock out an entire Pokemon behind a $50 paywall because they know people will buy it, and it fucking worked. Jesus Christ.
Innovation is not inherently good *cough* *cough* Paper Mario *cough*
Fuck off with your everything NEEDS to be innovative crap. At this point I'd take less innovation destroying beloved series
At least that blocks off a point specifically meant to be postgame, and not just another section of a town.
Gamefreak is like modern Sonic Team except incredibly successful because of marketing and character design rather than just mildly successful because of marketing and character design.
jesus fucking christ.
i mean, i never cared much for pokemon since platinum, but damn that's scummy
nostalia cashgrabs are one thing, this is on another level
What do you mean? That the first Paper Mario wasn't good or a title further down the series?
I've always wondered what happens if you're a pokemon trainer but don't live in one of the starter cities. your whole experience is gonna be skewed, the first gym you go against is gonna kick your ass and if you somehow do manage to beat it then half the other gyms are going to be a cakewalk. good luck getting to them though, because if you have a low level starter all the wild pokemon in that area are also going to kick your ass. and you'll black out before even making it halfway
Yes, if a 23 year old game was released today, literally everyone would call it shit. The same is also true for Tetris, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong + Country, Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Yoshi's Island and MW3.
They go to the starter towns to get their Pokemon, according to BW and XY
Gym leaders use different teams depending on how many other badges you have.
Rockstar did this for years though? It’s called controlling the narrative dip shit.
You know full well what I meant, and no amount of mental gymnastics will change that. None of those games you mentioned had glitches on par with Red and Green or 76. Not to attack Gen I, but you faggots love to give the old games a pass.
I like this one
XY is okay, but the general consensus on it has only gotten worse, for Gamefreak refused to evolve past that aside from different shaped models.
This has been the curse of pokemon ever since Gen 3. Add a new feature, take away a bunch of cool features that were in the last version. One step forward, two steps back.
Like how Crystal had animated sprites, day/night cycle, and an entire post-game region, and then when Ruby/Sapphire come out they have none of these things. Or how Emerald had the battle frontier, and then Diamond/Pearl took it out just to sell it back to you in Platinum. Or how they never brought back follower pokemon after HG/SS, or how they stopped letting us have a Vs. Seeker, so in games like X/Y you basically cannot rechallenge any trainers.
But that is better than a blackout with the lights on. Where other people can walk past. We also expect games to improve with time, if roadblocks exist they should be more natural like a challenge to overcome.
>Or how they never brought back follower pokemon after HG/SS, or how they stopped letting us have a Vs. Seeker
They did for lgpe at least
The point is how lazy Game Freak is. This isn't Bethesda with nearly unplayable games on lauch; this is Blizzard-Activation with an attempt to change just enough models to make it seem like they did work.
They could have changed the background's textures to model the blackout, put traffic cones and safety barricades, etc. I think that's what OP is chaffed abut.
The wild pokemon will still tear them apart though.
FIFA improves itself with every new iteration. The Manager mode of gameplay is more intricate and strategic than any JRPG ever has been.
Should I buy Let’s Go Pikachu if I don’t care about Pokémon Go and don’t play it? I recently beat Yellow version and just want a fun Pokémon switch game but don’t wanna wait for SWSH
in fairness, it's nintendo's fault that gen 3 didn't have the day/night cycle, not game freak's. they gave the original gba an even shittier screen than the gbc, and every game had to have bright washed-out colors to compensate.
Gamefreak and Pokemon are two different companies. They don't share a budget
>The point is how lazy Game Freak is
What the fuck? Gamefreak is one of the few companies who still puts effort in their games and isn't afraid of changes. There's a reason why Pokemon is still rocking after a 2 decades.
>they almost certain put a huge amount of time and energy into Pokemon games
No it's just a worse yellow. Emulate BW2 or HGSS instead
Keep eating shit
>the MUH CHILDRENS GAYME defense
Why are you okay with companies ripping off kids with shitty, uninspired trash that will rot their minds? Children's entertainment should feed their mind and jumpstart their own intellectual creativity. Just because it's "for kids" doesn't justify lack of effort.
>implying I don’t own those
Kingdom Hearts 1 had empty seats inside the colosseum because they were too lazy to design or put static NPCs on the spectator seats and had the gall to say the spectators are in danger once Cerberus attacks, same with BBS with the empty ballroom in Cinderella's world which was supposed to be filled with royalty NPC dancing, I think one of the NPCs says you can't enter the ballroom because it was full of people, but you can clearly see no one is in there.
Also, starters are supposedly rare, so most random trainers would start their journey with shit like a Rattata their parents found in the attic since they are not the main character who gets free rare pokemon handed to them.
No wonder they go crazy and sit around in the wilderness fighting anyone they lay their eyes on.
that might be true with western shit, but not with japanese kino. other japanese series are putting ambition into their games, trying new things and setting sales records in the process. pokemon has been left behind in the dust quality-wise.
>wrpg-kun is defending annual fifa rehashes now in order to keep up his shtick
yikes! the only thing strategic about fifa is how ea has strategized to milk every cent out of its players' wallets.
The clouds and bushes are the same sprite in super mario bros, just colored differently. I think it's safe to say it's the latest game ever, by all your standards.
why are you trying to change the subject to "tropes and plot tools" in a thread criticizing game freak for not putting effort into the gameplay and presentation of their games? also, why do you think children don't deserve to have good games made for them?
My dude, Mario famously has negative world, a glitch that puts you in an infinite loop and unable to progress. This also ignores shit like wall clipping and other glitches used in speedruns.
For all your bitching, there aren't any major glitches in Pokemon R/B (USA release, I'm unfamiliar with Japanese R/G) that a blind player would notice on first time playthroughs. Yes, Focus Energy doesn't do anything and Toxic + Leech Seed stack in an unintended way. Now name something that will permanently lead to a game broken state forcing a restart/crash that you could realistically expect a new player experiencing without knowledge of it.
I never made a nostalgia claim, retard. But, I don’t recall huge game breaking glitches and v always does that shit. Your example for Gen I doesn’t work, deal with it.
>Gen 1, 2 and 3
Technically limited by GB, GBC and GBA cart size, perfectly understandable.
>Gen 4 and 5
Their main excuse for this generation was they withheld previous gen features to make the old game """unique""" so """you can play it again""".
>Gen 6-present
They don't give a shit anymore, it'll sell 10+ million copies anyway and their main focus is moving merchandise. The video games at this point are nothing more but advertisements to buy plushies, action figures and shit.
Pokemon video games aren't the reason why Pokemon is printing money, their merchandise dwarfs Disney and their TCG is also printing shekels.
I know nothing about this game but it's currently 97 cents on steam so I'm going to check it out. Thanks guys!
But Gen 4 and 5 were the best, user.
>you'd love to see an open world Pokemon game
honestly, I don't think game freak has the talent to even do something like this
Pokemon games could die tomorrow and merch would still sell for the next 50 years. At this point the games exist to justify new merch.
faggot
Aren't we all supposed to reply to posts like these with, epic, based, and btfo? Oh wait when it's a based N thread we can stop shitposting for awhile. Is there any doubt the majority of shitposting on this site isn't nintencels
Why has you just want an open world pokemon become an insult? Most people don't even mean BotW, but more like modern JRPG worlds. But it comes off like pokefags have no rebuttal to the awful corridors of the new gen should go, so just attack the alternative
They still could've had wild pokemon change on day/night even if the screen didn't darken. And there was still a lack of time-based events besides some shit like berries, compared to GSC.
If this was one isolated issue, I'd give it a pass. But it's one example in the larger pattern of GF constantly stripping out good features in future games.
>dumb reason
>300 lights are on behind him in the first place
kek
Reminds me of The Truman Show.
I think they didn't give the pokemon specific attack animations because they didn't want to set it up as an expectation for subsequent games. Doing specific animationns for all 151 original pokemon would be a lot of work, but doing it for the 900+ pokemon that exist, each having more than 20 attacks that would have to be animated specifically for them would take a colossal amount of work, which is why they probably don't want to do it
Sonic team at least used to try and innovate or experiment before just sticking to boost shit.
Both are pretty incompetent though
doesn't only pikachu or eevee follow you?
So does DeSmuME emulate BW2 well?
Nope. Any pokemon can follow you. You can even ride a bunch
>Gamefreak
>Bethesda
Who's the third member of the unholy trinity of lazy as fuck devs?
No, they all do. But the funny thing is the animations aren't even new, they were found unused in Sun/Moon's files. LGPE really is fucking lazy
>still puts effort in their games and isn't afraid of changes
Lmao
I now know why people say toddlers with no taste browse this board. Low IQ retards.
shit, that's actually pretty fucking good
What are the chances we get this feature in Sword/Shield?
I was a sucker for following pokemon in HG/SS, it just gives the game so much more life.
Are you retarded?
Paradox?
The sad part about that is that older pokemon games used to be sort of open-world. Not 100% open, but sort of like Dark Souls or Metroid where it's fairly open and there are a couple things or events you need to open up new areas to explore, and the map sequence wasn't 100% linear in a straight line.
Nowadays they don't even fucking try.
Poké Barney sperging out can only mean a new Pokémon game.
>What are the chances we get this feature in Sword/Shield?
Well they already removed visible wild pokemon, so...
it emulates alright
Zero chance, if it wasn't in the trailer it won't be in the final release
It was cool though
Should I buy the Lets Go Pikachu/Eve version of Switch?
I unironically enjoyed USUM
I did too, though im a pretty casual pokemon player. Dont understand the hate the game gets
There are some custom Desmume emulators out there that make the self-sabotage work well enough. Phone emulators still run them better becuase the dev isn't a butthurt manchild
Sony threads attract the Yea Forumsfags.
It's why they have so much shitposting.
Hows melonDS? Heard some good stuff and no i dont care what developer does in his/hers free time
Are you serious? You still think gf is relatively bad next to the husk of Dice, Ubisoft, Treyarch, Bioware, really? Gamefreak is apart of your trinity?
>What are the chances we get this feature in Sword/Shield?
Is this your first experience with Pokemon. Game Freak is infamous among these parts for removing or omitting well liked "fluff features" from the enxt game to make their games feel "unique from each other" because you know, it's not like the region itself doesn't do that
Dumb nupokefag
USM? It's mostly because they just split third vers in 2 + any left over complaints from SM
>nupoke
Nigger I played r/b/y because my brother had red, I got blue and then yellow. You’re fucking stupid.
this can happen in real life though
a blackout without showing any signs of one while multiple people are running past the guy is just lazy
>Dont understand the hate the game gets
It added $5 worth of new content, sold at $40, and makes you watch all those fucking cutscenes again
Yeah but what if I hadn't played SUMO prior to USUM? Why would *I* hate it then?
No chance. There's animations for every pokemon that currently exists but gamefreak is probably too lazy to animate the 60~ pokemon we'll get this gen
Ok user, but thats a publishing problem and it sucks. I was asking about the game itself.
It still inherits all the problems of SM, extremely handholdy, small region with little exploration, cutscene interruptions every 5 steps
because even then the story's shit, the pacing's awful, the ost isn't as good as previous ones, the mons are ugly abominations and the gameplay is brain dead easy and repetitive
>and no i dont care what developer does in his/hers free time
You should considering this is the reason why Desumume doesn't natrually run the Pokemon games well, as he purposely made them run like ass in most situations because people kept asking him about how the game will run, and was afraid that people wouldn't play the niche games he cares about. It'd be like the Cemu devs making BotW run like shit because no one cares about Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
Anyways about melonDS, idk. It's still in development and who knows how long it will take for it to get on par or better with Desmume.
BBS was on PSP so it kind of gets a pass for lack of detail. It's only when you play it on console do you see how barren the worlds really are.
>the gameplay is brain dead easy and repetitive
just like every pokemon game if you are older than 8
have you seen their recent games? they are by far the laziest studio around. this wouldn't even be up for debate on here if pokemon wasn't a nintendo exclusive.
Well think about it user. Why give players something of worth if no matter what you give them they eat it up?
i rather need another pokemon coliseum but with a bigger world and pokemon verity.
GameFreak isn't lazy.
It's Neokiketrashitpisstendo which is lazy and cheap.
a pokemon game with 2 regions yah or nay?
Why are you comparing a game to a movie?
Third party devs always make better pokemon games.
Lmfao
>On the rocks
Why do you need to lie and make yourself look dumb when stating the plain truth about GF is more than enough?
They still have some level of polish and quality control. I'm sure this sort of comment invites some greentext replies but it is true. Even at its most shit GameFreak ensures that the basic Pokémon experience is fully realized every time. They just do the bare minimum to make a functioning video game.
>Blackout
They mean there's a black friday sale going on in Detroit
>muh graphics
I believe you’re either ignorant to what some other developers are doing, your sense of scale is skewed, you’re obtuse or biased.
Is there a Switch emulator?
Sword and Shield are looking like Sun and Moon all over again.
It'd probably have 60 new Pokemon or less with zero National Dex, even for its planned sequel.
This wasn't true until normalfags invaded the market. 15+ years ago, Pokemon was one of the exceptions, and many mocked it. Sequels improving, adding features, and innovating used to be a basic expectation.
At this point I just want all the money that the franchise makes to go into spinoffs that aren't RPGs like Pokken. Pokken is the only Pokemon game I've touched since I dropped X after the third gym and I actually really enjoy it.
Gamefreak feel like the video game studio equivalent to some simple yokel discovering they have oil on their land.
Jolted into riches do to dumb luck with no idea what to do with it or how to build from it.
This is why BW2 is the best in the series.
>"with no idea what to do with it"
>consistently sell 15+ mil copies each new release
>consistently sell 5+ mil copies each rehashed release
I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing
The point was that they're successful despite never knowing how to improve on it.
i'm very aware. i think you're turning a blind eye to game freak's laziness and cash grabs because they're making exclusives for your favorite company.
just play one of those again, even if you're rich LGPE still isnt worth the money
>They still have some level of polish and quality control.
you're joking, right?
Might wanna check what "blackout" means in japanese culture, my dude. The translators just failed to put it into the right context.
But why would they want to improve if the formula works? It's too much risk to change
Not to mention they hold one of the biggest franchise in the world and somehow managed to not fuck it up which is rare
I'm not praising them but it makes sense to not change anything
these look pretty cool, what game?
>trying to trivialize the greatest postgame content ever made
Yikes.
One of the Gamecube games that are in Orre. I think the sequel.
Oh, no. It does make absolute sense business wise. Why would they try when doing nothing is just as if not more profitable?
They're just content to more or less stagnate. Things that were put in the original gameboy games due to limitations of the hardware are still there (random battles for example) even 20+ years later. The base formula is fine; it wouldn't have lasted this long if it wasn't. It just feels like the passion is gone and they've just become a cookie cutter machine when it comes to pokemon.
So people don't think they're lazy hacks, maybe? So perhaps, in the future, they could sell games to people who are not currently buyers? Crazy thought, I know.
ea is much worse considering they keep releasing the same sport games every year and retards still eat that shit up
Nope, GF is one step forward, 10 steps back.
Pokemon red and blue are the glitchiest most horribly coded games I've ever seen.
People dont really get pokemon for what it is, they cannot keep making incremental upgrades to every version, they are already shooting themselves on the foot by wanting to have more and more pokemons each generation, they already reuse assets from previous generations just to balance that, but on the features side, each version has something "unique", that usually dont get implemented on the next game because that will have another "unique" gimmick. That's how pokemon games are.
at this point, if youre an adult and want to 'play pokemon', do it on Pokemon Showdown.
>Let me guess, you want [cool thing]
Uh, yes? Am I BTFO?
Most of it is reused routes from BW1. BW2 does have a good postrgame but the only actual new stuff is the revamped Black Tower, PWT, Clay Tunnel, and Plasma Frigate. Correct me if I'm wrong
There's also stuff like Pokestar and Join Avenue which are available pre E4 but no one touches them until after.
Don't forget it needs to be a big online MMO too.
The whole city/island thing with Roxie is new
it gets worse its only for that account or save i believe. so if you lost your switch or save tied to that mew, you aren't getting another one despite owning the pokeball.
also I forgot about the Nature Preserve when you fill the unova dex
We're talking about postgame
I don’t think that at all, my original point was putting them in a top three is uncalled for when there is worse going on, so back to alpha.
>also I forgot about the Nature Preserve when you fill the unova dex
I refuse to count that as you can't see the Unova dex without the other version like you can in Platinum.
seriously? which ones are missing? I'm sure you see both version exclusive legendaries in each version
It's not low budget, but it's not AAA because it only really does well in Japan. Pokemon isn't AAA either despite being a massive fucking success, but just ignore that tiny little detail.
>4 and 5
You're thinking of ORAS, gen 6. 4 and 5 are the absolute peak of the series, excluding D/P (which were both pretty good despite their flaws)
>Pokemon games sell at least 30 million copies, 10 times as much.
Even the best selling Pokemon game has not sold 30 Million units. Red/Green/Blue hasn't hit that, and only barely passes it if you add Yellow.
What about the desmume dev? I never noticed anything.
serebii.net
Skitty and Buneary for starters. Trainers use the evolved forms but the babies are wild only and version exclusive.
Also Rufflet and Vullaby so you can't cheat it by importing from gen 4.
another reason why pokemon is so half-assed is because they don't really have any good competition. the franchise is so damn established that it's near impossible to challenge it. so when they have monopoly on the genre they can do whatever they want.
pokemon is an aaaa franchise with indie-tier games because the studio that makes them is lazy and incompetent and the fanbase is complacent enough not to care as long as pikachu and charizard are in them.
YKW was beating it for a while in Japan.
Except no, fuck you. The series only turned to absolute shit after B2W2, when Yokai Watch came out and did gangbusters in Japan, so they dumbed down XY to make it easier, and they kept dumbing down the franchise ever since.
AAA status refers entirely to budget. The Pokemon games do not have a large budget despite being one of the most lucrative franchises of all time.
It's not AAA.
Their in game roadblocks have always been hilarious. Gen 1 had 4 guards all simultaneously thirsty and when one finally gets the drink he shares it with the rest.
But isn't Frigate in the normal BW2 game? Clay Tunnel has you go in for a little bit too, I thought
In sun and moon, I know every single texture in the entire game loaded every time you went to a new area, even if that texture wasn't in the area. It's why battles take forever to load iirc. I'd say it's more incompetence than laziness.
Clay Tunnel is locked until postgame. I only mentioned the frigate for the optional Colress fight
yup, never happened before
>can't reuse old animations from previous 3d games
>can't hire more animators
>pokemon is a broke company that knows what they're doing and how slow they are to release games
Dragon Quest is the top tier of AA budgeting done right to make AAA quality
Reverse that, XY are sinfully bad
I'll never forgive them for not adding as much content as BW2 on any game after that. There's no excuse, the battle system is done, the mons' stats are done, they don't have to fine tune anything other than just make battles and events.
Right? I feel like fans could shit out a couple of battle facilities with varying rulesets in a week, models, events and all.
>They have no excuse.
Maximizing profit, dumbass.
I still can't believe LGPE lacks a fucking battle tower. Its so much worse than FRLG its not even funny.
XY have the virtue of being the first (and only) games in the generation. They had the abomination that was SM to get this shit right and still made something that's just about as dry as XY.
pokemon is a $90 billion franchise. calling it aaa would be underselling it. money isn't pokemon's issue. competence, work ethic, ambition - those are pokemon's issues.
Don't forget ORAS.
Anyways, SM are subpar imo, but I think that USUM are actually decent?
Like if Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2 are all 8-10/10, USUM is like a 6.
For 3DS, ORAS>USUM>XY>SM
The problem isn't that new games are bad, they aren't. The problem is that they're inexcusably mediocre for a company with a budget as massive as Gamefreak's, for the IP with the highest net worth in the world.
>Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2 are all 8-10/10
Nostalgia goggles in full effect
roadblocks are my most hated thing in these games, it makes the game feel more linear than anything else. Just let me go ahead and get fucked if I go into a higher level area, i just want to explore my own way god damnit. stop making the first half of the game be a on rails tutorial about a game everyone knows how to play.
Sick contrarianism, those are almost universally agreed upon as the best the series has to offer
>Don't forget ORAS.
Right, I actually repressed those because they made them inferior to not only Emerald but RubySapphire too. I went back and played them all to make sure too.
All they had to do was remake Ruby/Sapphire with a new coat of paint + some extra shit with quality of life like HGSS did and everyone would have been happy.
>ORAS was worse than RS
Now you're just being ridiculous.
If you don't like any of those games you don't like Pokemon, straight up.
Mmm, I'd argue that they're technically more worth someones time over RS due to some interesting features like the new Dexnav, soar, and good remixes, but yeah, Emerald still shits all over them.
No one has attempted to challenge it in the first place. Devs gave up before even trying.
Holy shit, I still remember the TV commercials with the infrared link cable thing.
Who's this tittymonster
any other series with monster-collecting elements gets written off by journos and fanboys as a "pokemon ripoff," even when they're mechanically different than pokemon.
digimon is a multi-billion-dollar media franchise that still has an active fanbase, still gets new anime/merch/games on a regular basis, and people still call it a "failure" and a "dead franchise" just because it's not a $90 billion franchise like pokemon.
yo-kai watch 3, a new game with a shitload of content in it, got the same metascore as pokemon lgpe, a $60 kanto remake with less content than the previous $40 kanto remake.
knowing all that, why WOULD anyone else ever try to compete? they could make the greatest monster collectathon of all time and it would never be appreciated simply because it's not pokemon. pokemon has a near-monopolistic level of control over its genre and people seem to be satisfied with that, even though it's holding the franchise back from reaching its full potential.
SPBP
There's a worse one where a route is blocked off by two random trainers who tell you that you're not cool enough to go to the route they're blocking until you've gone to another route first.
Here is a game from 2004
Pokemon Coliseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of darkness
I couldn't play the first one because the music and animations were so horrendous. Save yourself the trouble and just play Gale of Darkness.
Wonder if all those lot of polygons on their pkmn models were meant for future proofing or just lazyness
What game
>XD
Fuck off
>you can't complete a dex without trading
OH GOD, NO! THE HORROR!
Do you really need pokemonGO in order to play this?
>XD
Theres nothing worth "XD'ing faggot
>You don't like thing X?
>That must mean you like thing Y!
Retard
Seeing the dex dummy. You have to be able to see everything to access an area like in Platinum but unlike Platinum, they fucked up for 4 babies.
>XD
go away
>dummy
I've played more 4th gen and 5th gen than you, user. Sorry that it takes some amount of effort to get your shiny Haxorus.
Meanwhile Platinum had the dumb idea to hardlock the entire postgame until you saw every pokemon in the dex, which is just retarded and was the gen that started that nonsense trend of "you don't have to catch them lol just see them"
>I couldn't play the first one because the music and animations were so horrendous
>Colosseum's music is horrendous
How do you live with such a shitty opinion? How do people interact with you on a daily basis without wanting to punch you in the face?
I'd be satisfied with a post game and a spot for high level grinding with a way to skip cutscenes but modern GF can't be fucked to do any of that. And yes joining the local evil team would be refreshing but GF would never do it because it would require effort.
>Wow you actually want a good game? What a fucking loser lmao
I have been playing Y lately for the first time. I really like that i don't have to grind my new pokemons, but holy shit, being ~20 levels over everything with my "main" party makes this shit brainless.
People who want an open world Pokemon game are probably the same retards who want overworld encounters and real time combat.
w-where will they go
USUM is more properly balanced towards xp share.
Gamefreak forgot you can't balance a game towards both xp share and no xp share in gen 6.
Turn off XP share and change the battle style you fucking retard.
>DURRR THE GAMES SO EASY WHEN YOURE 20 LEVELS HIGHER WTF?!
Game is still easy because the team comps of the bosses are shit.
Good strawman, but pokemon was newer hard.
I'm just suprised how something that sounds like a QoL feature, makes the entire game shit itself.
Zoomers
>Good strawman, but pokemon was newer hard.
First off, its not a strawman when that is literally what the user was fucking posting about.
Secondly, no, Platinum and USUM managed much better difficulty curves. So did BW2. Just because the games are simple doesn't mean they lack a difficulty curve you dumbass.
>mfw Yea Forums gets anally annihilated at the idea that i buy pokemon games solely for the girls
>mfw Yea Forums literally can't do a single thing to stop me
GameFreak created Sabrina, Dawn, Cynthia, Hilda, Skyla and so many more perfect waifus, so they are okay in my book.
Happened to me once
>off model
>heh let me guess you want this cool and ambitious new game formula from gamefreak rather than the same old shit with wii tier graphics
Every single piece of music used in colosseum is re-used on xd, except for 2 tracks, you might be pants on head retarded, the animations are mostly the same and the only thing worth nothing is some shadow render bug on some pokemon.
pathetic otaku waifufags are cancer.
I'm keeping the series alive and there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT
What is even going on in this image
>Gamefreak is one of the few companies who still puts effort in their games and isn't afraid of changes
>because it only really does well in Japan.
Half the games dont even come out here and the ones that do are released 2 years after the jp version.
a e s t h e t i c
that's better
Maybe I will give USUM a chance then, even though most of the new pokemon designs look like shit.In my opinion
there's better series out there for waifufags.
>dead series with way less waifus than Pokémon
>better
Son, even the generic NPCs in Pokémon are top waifus.
>blackout
>all the lights are on in the windows
Fuck gamefreak
What's the point if you can't make Ami show her tummy?
kys nigger
He was drunk in jp version
X and Y were fucking garbage but I bought Omega Ruby because of nostalgia and that turned out to be garbage as well. I stupidly bought Pokemon Moon thinking that finally this time they’d made a good game. Fool on me. Moon was the last one I bought. I skipped Sun and Moon 2 and also skipped LGPE. Pokemon has been fucking garbage since Platinum(some say B&W). I will never buy another Pokemon game unless it’s some groundbreaking shit, and we know that will never happen so... fuck gamefreak!
You missed the point completely, he says there is a blackout but gamefreak is so lazy they couldn't even turn the lights off
What’s the difference between USUM and SM? They seem to be almost identical.
>Four new Pokémon (five with Zeraora)
>Mantine surfing
>Alola photo club
>Some totem Pokémon changed, one new trial
>Story goes from being lame to being outright nonsensical
>Rainbow Rocket post game
That's about it. They're among the least worthwhile third versions, if you played SM there's basically no benefit to playing USM.
I still don't understand. It looks like Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum, but they made two of them because reasons.
But every other Nintendo franchise is lauded and loved for innovation. The lazy or derivative games like NSMB and Twilight Princess aren't loved nearly as much as Odyssey, Sunshine, Breath of the Wild, Majora's Mask or Wind Waker. It's only Pokemon fans who take it.
Fair enough user, I think USUM did a lot to fix the problems of Alola. Cutscenes have been changed around and the pacing is miles better on the first and fourth islands, the region has a better dex with more stuff made available early, and rare shit all over. Sidequests are plentiful, you've got additions like early move tutors, totem fights have been buffed up and your rivals end up with great teams.
Its not perfect (island 2 and 3 are way too similar to SM for example, and its still cutscene heavy at times) but its a genuinely fun time. Basically everything is better than SM with regards to actual gameplay.
Not at all.
that's why you'll never be great user
Hardware needs to be considered too, the Switch/WiiU obviously cannot run something like RDR2. All things considered I think BotW looks nice stylistically, comparing these 2 games is like comparing Team Fortress 2 to Crysis (which also both released in the same year).
BotW has its problems but the graphics are low-hanging fruit.
>I-it's not Game Freak's fault!
Fuck off, it absolutely is their fault.
>Four new Pokemon
>Photo club
Couldn’t they have released it as paid DLC for SM?
Goodness no, then they wouldn't have been able to charge full price for $5 worth of content.
making the game is very hard, please understand
god i need to finish dq11, such a good game
NSMB sold better than the 3D games
I see this argument alot, I think people underestimate how much fucking money the Pokemon company has. They could easily hire another studio or three to just create animations for them. Pretty much every AAA publisher has multiple studios that do this very thing. When they have connections with nintendo too. They're deliberately keeping the dev team as small as possible. Just look at an Ubisoft game's credits its a mountain of people working on their games. the Pokemon company has even more money then they do. This argument is weak and doesn't hold water.
>There's a black out
Sounds like a perfectly good reason to not go there.
I'm actually pretty optimistic this time around. For what we've seen it looks pretty much what i expected/hoped. I never really like over world Pokemon because I liked the mystery of going into the tall grass and seeing what was in a specific area. Can't really see why everyone's upset when we know literally nothing other that the region and the starters.
It's fan-fucking-tastic and funny as hell to boot.
its really sad that every from game after this ignored all the good things this game did and doubled down on being derivative of dark souls 1 and bloodborne
>Theres no bigger suckers than the pokemon fanbase
the Fifa fanbase would like to have a word with you
its not that I want an open world Pokemon game, I mean I don't think gf is quite there yet to attempt that, its more that I just want this switch game to be on par with at least Mario odyssey, botw and splatoon 2.
theres no reason why gf can't step out of their comfort zone and try to change things up even further from sun and moon
it went from a must buy to a wait and see for me. could end up being a pass unless i see something really impressive
Nah I just want more effort put into presentation and polish, more content instead of it being removed, and a fucking skip cutscene or fast forward option or a difficulty select more with actual thought put into the first version releases of a game
Yes
>implying life isn't transient, spontaneous and beautiful, like a song, a falling leaf, or an arbitrary barrier in a video game
aesthetically stunted tards get out NOW
Candles
how the fuck do Pokemon games not have overworlds yet? just because they've restricted themselves to the decades-old "you can only encounter wild pokemon in Tall Grass" design choice, thus rendering random overworld encounters like every fucking JRPG has since the dawn of the genre absolutely unthinkable?
when I was ten years old playing Golden Sun: The Lost Age, I constantly wondered why Camelot isn't allowed to make a Pokemon game. the menus, battle system, and well-realized massive eventually-open world complete with unique, comfy little towns with hidden secrets of GS:TLA seem like they would map perfectly to what you want out of a Pokemon game... unless you're an autistic pokemon fan who would literally die of a brain hemorrhage if he saw footage, let alone played a Pokemon game that wasn't 99.99% exactly like the previous ones in the series.
tl;dr a GBA game that's old enough to legally buy cigarettes is a better Pokemon game than every Pokemon game before or after, except that it lacks the pokemon collection part. the current state of the mainline Pokemon games are inexcusably ridiculous.
>t. hasn't bought a new Pokemon game since Diamond and refuses to do so until the series evolves literally at all
What's your thoughts on how LGPE did encounters?
Honestly seeing some of the plains in the trailer made me think that a compromise would be nice, can go through grass in order to get encounters, while having some scattered pokemon living around the routes for other encounters too and to make the areas look liveler
There should have been different animations for crits, ineffective hits, misses, item effects, signature moves, etc. It would have made the switch to 3d models okay.
Ultra-Necrozma. Anyone walking into it without knowing a thing about it assumed its a bog standard pokelegendary battle.
>all stats rise by two stages at the start of the battle
>near perfect coverage of moves
>[organ music intensifies]
RBY were yhe first games and they weren't supposed to be as popular as they were. Gen 2 onward they actually did quality control pretty well.
